Ummm, so when are you going to change your false description?? Because like another poster on here stated Graeme Cowin was the first driver outside of the USA to run a four second time. A 4.895 @ 294.34, all the way back in December 1993. I think most real Drag Racing fans know the real, but for those that don't, your description is wrong. Should read first four in Europe.
Kindly note that the translation of Benny's live-at-track-commmentary will not be changed as well as the title in the video itself cannot be changed, except of re-uploading the whole file which I do not intend at the moment. Thanx for your comprehension
Regarding the tires , Good Year had an issue and problem to supplie tires at the time, and we where out of them. We asked Rico who had some spares if he hade tires, and he let us buy his used once if he got his new once in time. When we made the deal he joked and said i should chargé you like a new pair, when I have a feeling my old tires Will beat me this weekend. And they did.
The first ever 4 second 1/4 mile pass outside of the USA was actually made by Graeme Cowin at Calder Park Raceway, Melbourne, Australia on 19 December 1993
What do you think what we did on the grandstand? My buddy and me were smiling the rest of the weekend, because of that moment. It's still so funny:
The scoreboard lights up..no one reacts. You can count "21..22..23" until the crowd reacts. I think everyone had to look at least twice to be sure that (s)he really sees "4.98" lighting up there...:]
Rico Anthes has new slicks on, here. He threw away his old ones. One of the Optima team saw this. "Hey, they look better then ours" so they took them out of the dumpster and put them on their dragster, with the above result.
The Peter Lantz actually didn't plan to go to Hockenheim, as their budget was rather small in 1997. Rico Anthes invited them at Mantorp. They agreed and their goal was to go for the first "4".
He ran close to 300 miles per hour on that run! 295 to be exact.

Great memories, thanks for loading up !
"Commentator is yelling...." ? SURE I WAS...8-)
I almost hit my head in the speakers cabin because I was jumping around like crazy !
@Piet : you have some good pit knowledge,
I didn´t know that about the slicks.
Rumor has it that one TF team could throw away half a container of "we did the 1st 4sec. run" T-Shirts,
because "the Iceman" Kent did it, heh heh.

Another footnote here:
The Peter Lantz actually didn't plan to go to Hockenheim, as their budget was rather small in 1997. Rico Anthes invited them at Mantorp. They agreed and their goal was to go for the first "4".
Saturday morning, they have reached their goal.
