If their services and ... costumer care would be as sensitive and good as the commercial I would certainly appreciate this company. Unfortunately it's the complete contrary and my 4 years experience with them is a total nightmare. Not even the tiniest sensivity or just basic care and respect for costumers here, for sure.
Anyone recall when this ad began to air? I've referenced it like every time I do a lesson on using emotion in marketing with my gr6 class over the years, only I could never find it...thanks for posting! Now back to sobbing into my sleeve.
Ok so I'm crying over this commercial-again....Two days ago my 19 yr. old son saw a very senior war veteran having lunch in a restaurant and ended up chatting with him for the better part of an hour. This soldier had his medals on..and my son has been raised with awareness of our troops and all that they have given us. At the end of the conversation, my son shook his hand, paid for his meal and thanked him. He said this hero had a tears in his eyes and told him thank you. I'm very proud.
I am a very big critic of commercialism and advertising: I refuse to call sports stadiums by their sponsor names, and instead say "Canucks Arena", etc.
And I have to say that I think this ad is amazing. As a soldier, and as a patriot, I hope this made just one young Canadian want to know more about our history.
My grand father was in the Queens own Cameron Highlanders of Canada! So yes I am proud of the Dieppe sacrifice ! Am I happy that a company uses it as a way to promote their crap not at all! I have that right to believe that some things are not to be used in such a manner ! Those men did not die so that a media company could make a commercial thats my peace!
Nobody would dare call long distance from France to Canada these days. Bhell's roaming + long distance charges would rape your wallet for the next few pay cheques. -_-
What a wonderful commercial. I just started crying when I saw this. My husband Gordon W Estes was with the Essex Scottish regiment during the Dieppe raid. He was a wonderful husband , father and friend. I know my family shall never forget all the men who gave there all for their country that day !!! God Bless them all.
@Polaris688 Yess, Dieppe was a "dress rehearsal" for D-Day. The allieds learned lessons in Dieppe that savec a lot of lives on D-Day. Sad those lessons had a heafty price, thoufh.
i have never seen this commercial in my life and i just got all choked up.. brings back memories of my late grandfather who served with the RCA during ww2
i am a Canadian citizen but I was born in China. I saw this commercial when i was maybe 11 and I consider it to be very important part of my assimilation into the country. this commercial is that fucking good without being condescending.
I actually made a trip to Normandy a few years ago and saw the trenches.(WWI, I know but my admiration for soldiers remain the same)
Also, try to remember that for the first 55 seconds of this commercial, you can't really tell it was a commercial.
Will all due respect and nothing but unwavering appreciation to our living veterans and those we've lost, I think it's really shameless of Bell to play on people's emotions like this for the sake of an advertisement. Feel free to share your own opinion, just how I feel about it. But the message itsself however resonates very deep.
@gidget420 I never said I didn't like this commerical nor did I say anything that should lead you to believe that. Re-read the original comment I replied to and then my actual reply. Where did I say I didn't appreciate this commercial either? Call your dealer and get your money back cuz you're trippin'. WOO!
A friend of my father's, Steve Michel, was captured at Dieppe and spent the rest of the war in a POW camp. He wrote a book about it in the 1970's "They Were Invincible: Dieppe and After"... but, I can't seem to find it listed anywhere.

It's more than a reminiscence..it's attaching and personal! I don't know how many of you have been visiting Dieppe but the beach front - despite all the hotels and malls in the background - always brings sadness when looking at it...!
@TyronKree Dude, this commercial is about a young CANADIAN boy calling his CANADIAN grandfather to thank him for the sacrifices made by CANADIAN troops on the failed Dieppe raid. The lessons learned from that raid is what made D Day both possible and successful. You can learn about it by searching Dieppe on Wikipedia

This is such an emotional commercial for me. My father served in WW2 and I cannot watch this commercial without thinking about the sacrifices he and so many made so that we could enjoy the freedom we as Canadians enjoy today. Be sure to thank a veteran this week.
Without question, the best commercial ever made. I have been looking for this like forever. It's still as powerful as it was the first time I ever saw it. Bless you for posting it. You made my day.!!!!!
Very nice commercial indeed. I am from Dieppe, and the 19th of August is always a very special day here, with lots of celebrations. I recently following a nice program on TV over the raid, very tough. Thanks to you, who gave your lives for our Freedom.
Usually I do not get emotional about much this commercial brings tears to my eyes every time I see it. They should bring it back every November. It is great the way it bridges the generations
Thank you for having posted this. I spent some time up in Canada and truly love the way everyone up there respects their veterans. The U.S. (where I'm from) could definitely learn a thing or two about the way you all honor your veterans up there. The spirit, shown in this commercial, simply amazes me. While I can only speak about my own tiny part of the world, I can say that I don't see anything like this down here. I've been struck by this commercial from the very first time I saw it. :-)
Thanks for posting this clip. It brings back powerful memories, not of the infamous raid, but of my six months spent hitch hiking about Europe. While I certainly knew the history of the town and the horrible losses suffered in the raid, what I didn't expect was the pull this remarkable place held over me. Instead of moving on with my fellow travelers, I chose to remain behind and honour my countrymen for their sacrifice spending nearly a week there. This commercial is simply a masterpiece.
This has to be one of the best commercials ever. It always sends a shivver down my spine when I watch it. I'm glad someone finally found it and posted it. I've been searching for it for a long while.
What a great commercial! Thanks for sharing. It seems that all Canadians remember this one, and especially at the time of year (11/11), it especially fitting.
