The only problem with S. Darko was how incredibly similar it was to the plotline of Donnie Darko. Artistically, the movie was quite wellmade. If only it had gone in a different direction. Samantha wasn't her brother by any means. While similar elements could've been introduced, they would have to be different in order to be logical.
Donnie Darko was an amazing, independent movie made by a genius that deserved to stand alone FOREVER, just as Richard Kelly intended it. S. Darko was made by someone else who wanted to make some money off of the franchise, and Richard Kelly refused to even read the script. He was smart. I went into the future via a Tangent Universe and wasted $2.50 on the Bargain Buys VHS, released on such format so one may record something worthwhile over it like Darling Buds of May. Actually not all straight to DVDs are bad. And lately not a whole lot of people are going to theatres because of the recession. I have seen a lot of straight to video movies that rocked. Southland Tales and The Air I Breathe; were too interesting films.

You know, looking at this trailer it doesnt look to shabby. THe thought that maybe samantha could see things too makes me wonder...but the other trailer looks bad. it looks like its gonna turtn DD into something teens everywhere are calling a crappy horror film, when its not supposed to be that. I wouldnt mind the same story through smanthas eyes,,,but not this new thing in some other town...

This movie is, and forever will be a FAN FILM. Completely unrelated to the original were it not for the fact that Samantha is played by the same person in both films. Why she would even sign up, I'm not certain. Perhaps because she is a nobody and wants to make something more of her acting career. BAD MOVE.

Oh, you've seen it and that's why you get to be a critique? Doubt it. Maybe she signed on because she thought it was a good script? Donnie Darko was originally supposed to be straight to video, until it was picked up by Newmarket, and it still didn't recover it's spent budget, but it's still an amazing film. Not all "Fan" Sequals are bad either. I'm just saying... maybe it could be given a chance? If it sucks, then it's a seperate film and doesn't do anything to Donnie Darko.

Yes, actually I have. I went into the future via a Tangent Universe and wasted $2.50 on the Bargain Buys VHS, released on such format so one may record something worthwhile over it like Darling Buds of May. I have been haunted by nightmares of the events for the last fortnight, it is ridiculous. Such terrible screen writing and acting.
As proof I have time stamped this reply at 2nd March 2009, memorized while in the Tangent Universe reading viewer reviews on Youtube.

I respect anyone's opinion; don't get me wrong... I just mean - the movie has been made and hating it before giving it a chance isn't going to make it not exist. If it sucks... it sucks... I'll own up to it. If it's terrible... I'm still gonna love Donnie Darko... You know what I mean?

I understood the sarcasm of the time traveling. I'm just saying, if your going to time stamp something... you should make sure it doesn't say (8 hours ago) or whatever the date to prove you wrong. :) Details, details! Anywho... I didn't know if you were telling me to F- off or what. I get grades like +A or in this case -F. I figured, but wasn't sure. I don't want to argue so...I agree to disagree.

Well Donnie Darko was a "cult classic" which meant it had a cult following and these fans would probably like the film and its sacredness to be untouched...
i doubt this film will end up better than the first. Somethings are better left alone like "The Catcher in the Rye"

Actually not all straight to DVDs are bad. And lately not a whole lot of people are going to theatres because of the recession. I have seen a lot of straight to video movies that rocked. Southland Tales and The Air I Breathe; were too interesting films.
