I practice chipping in my house (my wife hates this). We have a eat-in-kitchen, the table sits on a very short pile rug. I use my 60 degree with 6 degrees of bounce to chip from the rug, over about 4 feet of slate tile to the living room carpet and roll the ball to a coffee cup on the floor 17 feet away.
You notice that he has to set the ball up in a good lie before every demonstration shot. That's because his chipping technique scoops into the ball, which is too risky for tight lies. In the closeup at 2:08 you can see he comes in a little fat. This method doesn't provide any margin for error if the ball isn't sitting up.
The golfer's wrists seem to break far too much after impact in this vid, which is in opposition to what they're actually saying. I imagine when this style of chip goes wrong it will lead to skulls and weak scooped shots. 3 stars.
thank you very much - love your taste

Just use this idea.
A (low) chip travels 1/3 in the air and 2/3 on the ground.
A pitch travels 2/3 in the air and 1/3 on the ground.
The distance needed requires more or less loft. SW/PW for 3-10 meters. A 9-8-7 iron for >10m.
So if the fairway/rough is more than 1/3 of the area to the pin, use a more pitched shot (either a pitch or a high chip)
Always try to land the ball on the green.
