  • why are you wearing ear covers lawn tractors ar loud but it that loud???

  • @piffsterr2 Yes...long term exposure to loud things does damage hearing, plus I find the lack of loud more comfortable.

  • Did you ever get a plow on this thing?

  • @HillbillySailor Nope. Ended up being more of a riding toy but the engine issues and a slew of other projects pretty much canned this one, the metal was scrapped and the other parts of it such as the trans-axle taken and torn apart to learn more, then scrapped. All that currently remains are the tires.

  • I think all mowers are better if they are a twin I dont care for a single cylinder

  • Great videos on your channel! Keep it up. I know this video is old, and you probably got rid of the tractor. But the immediate solution was to remove the engine, get your camera ready and smash the Tecumseh engine with a front end loader, then post said video to youtube. "Crappy Tecumseh gets fixed up good"

  • @MultiKhaz Just got rid of this tractor, although pulled all the stuff, including the motor. I moved away, but dad did put a Briggs carburetor on it although he never figured out how to connect the governor again. He didn't film anything and as I said, the tractor body is now scrapped. We'll see where the motor ends up next.

  • lol that must be a tecumseh. ya they are hard to get running right.

  • One of our family friends dropped of a mower for me to fix. It has air coming out of the intake. Like it is using it as the exhaust. I also have flames shooting out of it. I put the end of a foam football in the opening where the air filter should be and it shot it up in the air about 30 feet or so. I have checked that the valves move. Could it be a flywheel key problem? Or what do you think it could be?

  • @TheMrDoItYourselfer Probably not...seems something is a-miss..might have to just tear the unit down and look for anything going wrong...should be able to turn the engine over by hand or by the starter and make sure it only sucks on the intake and blows out the exhaust...just disconnect the spark plug wire. That way you know mechanically you're good, you're just having combustion/carb issues.

  • needs a carb build

  • is it a tecumseh?

  • @slowride55 It is...the original briggs was destroyed, so this was a free motor...what it was on I don't know.

  • @Turbo231 hey it looks like your burning a rats house lol joking great video

  • the tecumseh on my 1971 john deere 70 ran like that right before it quit and wouldent run any more. i am going to try to redo the mag and give it new rings. hopefully that helps. rebuilding the carb did nothing. replaceing the carb did nothing

  • @1944johndeerel I cant wait until you get that running!

  • @slowride55 i bought another engine and it does run, but the shaft is about 1.5" to short so i wont be able to put the pto clutch on but it will be driveable. i do plan to fix the original engine though.

  • @1944johndeerel Well couldn't u buy a longer crank shaft? I bet you could find a decent Briggs that would work, btw how much different is this other engine? The original must have been specially made for this model.

  • @slowride55 parts for those particular engines are kinda hard to find. i will get the original running sooner or later. i am not sure what model tecumseh it is i bought because it was sold through sears, so it has a sears model #. i belive its off a 60's sears front tine tiller and i belive its a 6 or 7 hp. its very very similar to the vh70 thats on the tractor except its an aluminum block instead of a cast iron.

  • @1944johndeerel oh ic. i guess i didnt remember these engines are horizontal

  • @slowride55 vertical shaft like the engine on the tractor in this video.

  • @1944johndeerel Oh I didn't think front tine tillers had vert. Shaft motors

  • tecumsehs are junk.

  • Well, in one part of the video, the RPMs were varying alot without you touching the throttle. My dad's tractor does that every once and a while and its done that since it was new. All he has to do is back out the idle/mixture (i dont remember which) and turn it back in to where it was and it works fine. The tip of the needle gets dirty and needs to be moved to clear it up. I know you are going to rebuild the carb but for anyone else who has this problem, this is what is causing it.

  • @vistaman73 Yes...I don't have a lot of time to mess with this thing...someone had mentioned the governer spring is a little weak, I can almost agree with that, so will try and tinker with it. I have a brings carb...the original, if I can get it to fit, I will try that as well.

  • I have the same Murray although it is a few years older. The 12hp Tecumseh (XL120) burns more oil than gas and smokes badly.

Can you suggest a replacement engine ? I would like to increase hp and switch to a Briggs.

    Thank You

  • @canadaeast I would get a I/c model or just a ain Briggs, if you want power get like a 16hp opposed twin. It would make it much moe powerful.

  • Problem diagnosis: Ditch the Tecumseh!

Those Teccy carbs of that era are awful. Not even worth fixing in my opinion.

Like it's been mentioned, if you can adapt another carb to fit it then do it!

The screw on the bowl is your main jet, and top screw your idle jet!

  • well id put a brigs on it but its not mine so yea lol

  • Techumseh carbs are horrible. I'd put a briggs one on there if you are keeping it. Definately needs a straight pipe :)
