also something to point out, there is no writing on his black belt. I do taekwondo and every black belt that i have come across has writing in gold on their belt with Korean symbols. this guy's belt looks like something you could buy at any dollar store lol
Is there not a single guy on youtube who knows how to put his hips into a side or back kick. Plus he's leaning back and putting his weight on his heel.
ummm... i like how you explain the purpose and all of that, but as they say, walk the walk talk the talk... if your gunna explain it... then perform it properly as well... from a fellow 1st Dan, id like to say... very poor.....
Funny how everyone is commenting about how bad he is, but I bet if you actually fought the dude, you'd get your ass kicked...his teaching might not be all that good but seriously stfu for real.
In fairness, while not overly impressed I know that demonstrating technique while kicking a pad is far more difficult that demonstrating technique shadow sparring or even actual sparring.
Your fucking crap. Your technique s wrong. You need to be looking over your shoulder when you kick not at the floor. And your not retracting your leg back to your body after you've kicked.
I'll bet all the dislikes are from ITF guys and you are all lower grade smart arses, if you walked into this kick you wouldn't be so smart, a back kick hurts even if it aint technically right
@MrKeumgang The problem with his kick is, its too slow. Can easily be evaded and since the title says " Olympic Taekwondo Back Kick " you wont be getting that many points if your kicks don't land. Eliminate the jump and change it to instant turn kick and step forward to avoid quick counters or back step instant turn and kick. (the step forward can be replaced with a Bandal Chagi if the situation allows)
even when he demnonstrates the kick he nearly falls over..doesnt lift his knee high enough as he turns..and kicks below the belt..back is all about speed..my nan could get out the way of that!!!
I just dont like how he says "OLYMPIC Tkd" as if being the Olympic style made it ANY better than full-fleshed tkd. It actually is the reason why most people just dont respect tkd anymore.
I dont want to criticize as if I had any authority, but it seems TO ME that after the kick his leg is SO damn exposed for SO long. I have been taught that you have to bend your knee again and quickly recover your stance and be ready to attack before they kill you. Maybe its only ITF, maybe Ive been lied to.
@MrPublicIndecency this guy isnt teaching taekwondo. Hes teaching which kicks are allowed in olympic taekwondo and what will get you points. Anyone that tries learning martial arts on the internet is a dumbass lol this is a general overview of what makes up OLYMPIC taekwondo.
@YourLoveLetter Nonetheless, I see no reason why he would hide his black belt skills. Maybe he doesn't want to be taken seriously; other than that, its meaningless to demonstrate something without really demonstrating it. If it were only about whats allowed or not, a list would do enough. Then again, a demo would come in handy, one which really showed what its all about. This looks like some sort of tutorial to me.
@MRSfedup1 if he had the time to react to a quick spin, and didnt get sent back from the kick to the gut, then maybe he could front kick him in the spine yes, and then he would get a point deduction for an illegal hit.
This is not "MMA" or what you might THINK a "real fight" would be. Im just letting you know
@te1apartes If you really wanted to I would suggest just going back with your most recent belt before that to brush everything up, but I know TKD is heavy on discipline so maby thats not the best choice for ya.
i wonder how many cigarettes this poser smokes because every video this guy appears in it seems like he can't breathe. you know what my friend! show me how you bite down on a nicorate gum.
This is weak - I'm a 2nd degree black belt: Your recovery after kicking (straight leg) is poor, your support leg during the kick should have some sliding motion towards your target (jumping or off the line) and the "power" of your kick is seriously lacking. This is THE most powerful kick in TKD - you need to go back and get this cleaner, faster and wayyyyy harder. I've broken ribs through a chest protector iwith this, and if you are teaching as an expert, then you should be able to so to ...
jumping turning behind roundhouse kicks do a great job of scaring your opponent. and they are a good way to impress everyone =P but if u really want to stand out, throw some of those.. they may be hard to learn. and you dont always have the time to pull one off, but when u can, they are great
Hes not that bad come on lol i mean at least he can do the kicks, he did do the first back kick really low though which is illegal in any TKD tournament but hes last two were acceptable. Theres to many people with black belts who cant even do roundhouses correct to hate on this guy.
but ive noticed in the vids ive seen him do he only uses his right leg(abou 5vids) id say his one them black belts whos a week left leg..
hishead is nearly touchin the ground in a sparring match against a good fighter his head would b taken clean off his shoulders..
is he a 1st dan ya?..
keep it up but you need some training man..straighten your back, get your breathing right(mayb shout with the kick) o and your weight distrabution aint the best
I am currently a 7th dan in ITF and he needs to not arch his back so much plus he is not breathing while he strikes equaling less power you must keep your back straight and twist your head sooner than you twist your foot but he has his back arched too much and he is coming up short and not extending his leg out enough he stops as his foot hits the cushion
And ive trained with him Joon Jae Lee i did all of my couloured belt patterns infront of him and he was at every single one of my tournaments lets just say he is a family friend
my grandmaster was a 9th degree. He has passed away and was granted the prestigious 10th degree from Kukkiwon. (10th only achievable by retirement or death)
And a counter-side kick would be more effective combo-wise in the scenario you proposed. Had your opponent thrown a roundhouse kick, it would be different.
he's preobly just showing the basic back kick...its still kind of shoddy tho, need to lean back more and strike with the heel rather than the full face of the foot.

hands are supposed to flail in TKD... the keep close in is more other styles... TKD is all about having your arms down a relaxed because there is no punching. Especially in WTF
Let me ask you something, who is your master, and what belt are you? Because anyone who teaches his students to keep their hands down in sparring probably gets kicked in the head a little too often. Do you know what happens to people who keep their hands down in serious TKD tournaments? Headshots, alot of them. And not sissy head shots either. Besides what good is a back kick if you miss and your off balance. You're setting yourself up for a viscious roundhouse kick when you kick like that.
I'm a brown belt and my master Soon Tai Kim. Do you know how rare head shots happen? Most don't try it because head kicks leave you open and are televised.
Well I'm a second dan in WTF tae kwon do, head kicks are the most common form of knock out. and there alot more common than you think. and In a serious TKD tournament your opponent isn't worried about falling down or leaving himself open, his ONLY concern is kicking you so hard in what ever is open that you can't fight anymore. If your face is open that's one more place for him to kick, and it's that last place you want to get kicked.
@ shadow1846 Actually hands are down to tease your opponent to make the first move then you evade and counter attack or block and counter attack. But hands are down yes, so that your opponent can see an opening at your chest and your head and trick them into attacking .....thats why you also lean forward to tease them and lean backward to evade short range attacks.
you can use punches in taekwondo. in ITF there are just as many hand strikes as there are kicks plus you can punch to the head. and in WTF taekwondo you can punch to the body using hook, uppercuts and crosses its just that they are harder to score. there more used to move an opponent. ive seen many WTF taekwondo fights ended in verbal submission due to hard body punches.
You can't say it's not common because it really depends on the fighter rather that the style of fighting. Some fighter's use their fists more than other people, whereas others might not want to punch, but to stick to kicking yuou see.
And this is why WTF Taekwondo sucks...
