The girls name is Linda Hardy, I knew her when she was doing this add in 1981
she also did a sunsilk add (star quality she’s got it wearing a karate outfit) and 2 adds in Victoria, Jovan Musk Oil add and she was a Big M Girl, Vanilla Malt Big M, she was a cover girl for Dolly and all through that magazine all around 1980 to 1981 She did a bit of catwalk work with Melissa Hannan until Melissa did the miss Australia stuff, she was very pretty and a lot of fun,
As I understand it, AMOCO's previous advertising agency, Mojo, were handling the "At Least A Dozen Ways To Save Your Petrol" campaign at the time this ad was made. This ad I think was an answer to that campaign.
If I can remember this right, it was a girl called Linda Hardy. I met her a few years after this ad was made on another shoot. I simply just fell in love with her.
I remember this ad very well. I also remember a petrol station worker telling me that the 'final filter' was serviced every so often by removing it from the line, turning it around and reconnecting it. The next person to buy fuel flushed the filter out into their tank...
The final filter was of course a gimmick. You have a fuel filter on your vehicle's fuel line which does exactly what the FF purports to do. And most crud that can get into your fuel system comes from your fuel tank anyway.
There's a website that has these AMOCO ads. There's 4 different jingles including this one, but as an mp3 audio file only.
I can't tell you what the site's address is because You Tube has disabled web addresses because of Spams so type "Unique Cars And Parts" in google and you should find them on that site.
I remember this ad well, it was by the Mojo singers, as I recall it, it was an ad made for the Australian Government during a recession. Its a typical Aussie morning On a typical Aussie day And I love this land I was born in In a typical Aussie way But I'd sure hate to lose our sunshine But I feel its slipping away And we're gonna have to wake up sometime That everything is not OK Have a go, we can do Thats how we got the country started Boots and all and not halfhearted. Have a go we can do it
I remember this ad as a follow up to a previous successful one, in which they tried to catch lightning twice. It showed a guy who was escaping the city living, picking up his girl, filling up with Amoco and taking off into the countryside in some large older 1930s-style white (kit?) car with chrome pipes coming out of the side engine covers. I have the audio but not the video. It was very evocative, and drew on the desire to escape from the drudgery of life, and Amoco would do it.
Did Mojo ever do an Amoco commercial in the mid 70's. I'm sure they did. It used to have the jingle, "Amoco in my machine, Amoco nice and clean, Amoco nice and healthy......... Please let me know........ Been trying to find it.
AMOCO in Australia was absorbed by BP in 1983, the stations were then all rebranded. They still exist in the US in some states. AMOCO by the way means AMERICAN OIL COMPANY
Hi all, I'm trying to find another Amoco commercial where a girl (me) was riding a cream horse bareback through the pastures of Kangaroo Valley waving at the boyfriend departing in his cream cadillac de la salle convertible. The jingle was Going Going Amocoing etc. Any help would be appreciated. I was only 23 when I did that advert - I'm now 53 and would love a copy.
Hey OztvAgogo, I managed to find a copy of the jingle myself, on a see-through red single that was in a magazine all those years ago. So I'm sorted, cheers :-)
Advert was made 1980, some of the Advert is missing, omitted is the forecourt of the service station and the attendant filling the Gas. Advert was made on the road between Malaney and Montville on the Sunshine Coast QLD the car is a 1973 Morgan 4/4 there were three of these adverts made and two different Jingles the jingle in this advert is the correct one. I have all the filming details if any one is interested,The ladies name is Debora Lamb, How do I know this, I own the car
Man i remember this ad when i was only 4! I remembered the tune to this day! It was only when I remembered the Amoco logo after watching a kart race few years back and wondered what ever happened to Amoco in Australia?
thanks for uploading. can anyone get the previous (to this one)amoco commercial uploaded. Came out late 60's or early seventies. Seem to remember it also featured the same car but the lyrics went something like -
Yeah that one featured a silver car. I have a 45 record of that song and it came out around late 1974. At the time I do remember it being one of the first things I ever saw on colour tv around at a school friends house.
Thanks for the idea. My stereo is in the lounge room and the computer in the spare bedroom. I can record it on to tape first and then bring it to the computer to then record from there.......now where is my little radio cassette player.......do I actually still have it? MMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmm :)
I remember that add. There was an old rusted out car in a paddock and a young bloke and his girlfriend get into it and pretend to drive. The car has dream that it's new again and becomes the car in this add. Be good to see it again. The words began with "Lovely lady how does it feel, leaning back in my automobile."
why do people watch these? that's like asking why do people enjoy watching the film "grease" or why people like listening to abba or elvis - it reminds them of when they were younger.
this ad came out when i was a kid and i remember it, for me part of youtube is like looking through a tv set from last century - THAT'S why people post these things!
Oh God No, nice ad but now I REALLY want to see the hippie ad. Where do you get these from? Maybe I can track it down somehow. Thanks for posting this.
Thats the only problem........cars and women dont mix! How can he possibly love her more than he loves his car?

@stegatops1 She was cheating....She was giving him a wristy, that's why she turned her head at 0.36, to avoid a head shot. Guerilla tactics!!!

Why do they not make jingles anymore - Would make the commercials breaks so much more entertaining....rather than annoying! This is a classic.

This is another ad which is on that site I mentioned in my last comment...
Lovely Lady how's it feel leaning back in my automobile
I do believe we'll tour the nation but first I need some petrol from the petrol station
My tires are sunk from the lack of inflation
Lovely lady what do you know
There's a sign says AMOCO...
(Then the tune continues to "AMOCO, nice and clean, AMOCO in my machine")

Now that I think about it the message of the "typical aussie morning" ad was probably an environmental one rather than economic.

This ad was around 78-79.
I can't remember the girl's name but when she wasn't modelling, she worked part time in a jeans shop in Gladesville, Sydney Australia.
I was only about 14 or 15 at the time and remember going into the shop wishing I was as beautiful as her.

"Lovely lady, how does it feel, leaning back in my automobile?
I do believe something something nation (?)

I could go on but the somethings are the only words I don't know. Any chance you could you help out please? :-)
