Great insight into the high pressure life many Japanese professionals deal with on a daily basis....not to mention the nonstop bombardment of information everywhere you go....
This video is brilliant ....it shows a side of Japanese entertainment and creativity that one would usually know of if you were to spend time in Japan......And the Pet Shop Boys have a HUGE Japanese following. I hope that as time goes on the people of Japan can be able to enjoy pleasures like this again...instead of facing daily terror and tragedy
I have been a PSB fan since 1987 and i like this song and video a lot but need to make 2 comments about the tag you put why is there a need to put the tag gay surely it should be about the music it be like putting a tag for s wonder and tagging blind or tina turner and tagging black! and why is bruse webber tagged when he dib not direct it
@danthebrit Dan, look again at the tags: it is tagged 'gay tv' because that's the channel it was shown on. But you're right about the director - Nico Beyer should get the tag, not Weber.
For as long as I was a PSB fan, they held a vey prominent spot in the modern dance category-and this wonderful song is a very modern and has a very finished Euro sound to it.
Neil Tennants' wry and clever com mentary is never lost on me. We need more artists to call us on our B.S. What we have now are artists who are inextricably linked with Madison Avenue. And somehow, that became OKAY.
Flamboyant means that you are someone who behaves in a very extravagant and outgoing manner, everything is drama and all about you. This does describe alot of "poofs". This song is just addicting! I can't stop listening to it and even have it as my main ringtone on my phone. Yes the video is weird but that is what the PSB's do best.
(Davidcalling) it takes more then having a demo on a synth to produce these great songs. The PSB's are masters of programming, creating music, videos and writing.
Sometimes the Pet Shop Boys is all Aesthetics even if they are trying to be deep. It's all bubble gum and no depth. Then there are times when they are very deep and soulful. Great music but after I hear most their songs a few times I'm board of it. It's just all candy flavore and no meat and potatoes. They also come off as condecending at times as well as in this video.
Fuck that. Even though their music is pop oriented they have strong hooks, developed arrangements and they know how to make delivery work. They're not as in depth as Mahavishnu Orchestra or Pink Floyd but their songs are still strong. They are a shitload of 'candy coated' artists that have come out within the last 10 yearst that have absolutely no substance, but The Pet Shop Boys continue to delivery strong material.
cocoabononohead, I only agree that they deliver strong material at about 50% the other half of their stuff is weak or gets dull after about 3 listens. I've found this band to be like chewing gum after the flavor is gone you are left with nothing. Don't get me wrong I think several of their songs were fantastic. Also Groups like Pink Floyed were miles above the PSB so there is no comparison. Anyone can set a Casio Keyboard to DEMO lik ethe PSB and then sing to an Echo effect in every song.
Their songs tend to stick somewhat to a pop structure, I agree, but I find there music, exhilirating.
They've been one of the more potent new wave/electronic pop bands for the past 20 odd years, and most pop bands don't have as much as much substance as they do. What pop bands have produced something musical in the past ten years? With the exception of Goldfrapp, Portishead, and 'The Knife' and even these bands toy with pop concepts, while having a darker tone.
COCOABONONOHEAD, I don't have anything against pop, in fact I love pop. I just don't like 50% of the PSB music. It's hollow although pretty. And I wouldn't personally consider most of what they do actually being pop so much as Electro/Disco, which isn't bad either, but I just don't like most of their style. I have loved many of their songs but I don't think they are actually all that good at producing pop. Like I said, anyone can set a Casio Keyboard to Demo and set their voice to ECHO.....
well's there's your first mistake. you can't compare music on a left brained graph. Pet shop boys hits home emotionally in many of their dynamic tracks, whereas Pink Floyd is like self indulgent mutual masturbation that puts a lot of us to sleep. And I personally cant stand jingly jangly hippy guitar music. PSBs are clean cut and futurist, and are way more in touch with the future :-)
