Great car chase! I actually lived in the house shown at the beginning of the film. I rented it for 7 years from 1983 through 1990. Great views of the LA Harbor on a third of an acre; rare for LA! It was also used as a set in '85 or '86 for part of an episode of "Trapper John M.D." and was later Matthew Modine's parent's house in 1989's "Gross Anatomy".
