Gee, we didn't use any framework but were writing everything in pure JS. The first tree navigation we introduced in the very first version of SiteSapiens few years before this one. And used one in open source Sapid CMS. I don't know why mainstream CMSs don't use it still. Taxonomy? Hmm, it is achievable in the tree through the crosslinks...
