  • Dear dub haters,

Watch the Animax dub if you think this one sucks.

  • so many weeaboos complaining....

  • I love the dub cant wait to see it all dubbed XD NaLu <3

  • please english people stop dubbing you susck ust watch the japanese version its better like 10000 times

funimation just put the subs one in a bluray and i will buy it

  • @TheYosh96 I fail to see the logic in what you're saying. Just because you personally don't like the dub doesn't mean there aren't people who do, or it shouldn't be done. Plus, the DVDs/Blu-rays come with both audio tracks. You could simply choose to listen to the Japanese track. Nobody is forcing you to listen to the dub.

  • The dub is okay...

I mean like I've seen worse like the for Tokyo mew mew, but I'm so annoyed with gray's and juvia's voice oh and happy

  • @fiercecandy Juvia and Gray and Happy are just...no. They don't fit the characters. Gray is still young and shouldn't sound so old and cool, and Happy sounds too *face palm*, and Juvia is supposed to be doubtful and filled with a meek little feeling even though she could skin people easily.

  • @ThGirlNextDoor98 Okay, first of all, just because Gray's voice is deep, that doesn't make him sound old. He sounds like he's pushing 20, just like his character. And you can't tell from the shaky, doubtful, meek voice Juvia has in this scene that she is acting shaky, doubtful, and meek? The voice has nothing to do with the acting. That's why they're called voice actors.

  • @fiercecandy Evidently you've never seen the Animax dub.

  • More fairy tail!!

  • Yuuko's voice!! KYAA!! <3

  • thanks to anyone who helped

  • And there's also a reason why derogatory labels like "weaboo" and "dub hater" surfaced...

If you spend all your time comparing and noting every difference between the original and the dub without taking differences in language/culture into consideration, then you're never going to enjoy a dub or see it for what it really is. I think a lot of hate stems from that.

  • everyone always has somethng to complain about, guess what they say is true.. can please everyone....

  • There's a reason why alot of people don't like dubs. Number 1 reason is, THE SILLY VOICES THEY USE ON SOME OF THE CHARACTERS. Don't get me wrong not all dubs are terrible, take Trigun for example very GOOD dubbed anime. Why? BECAUSE THE MAIN CHARACTER DIDN'T USE A SILLY VOICE! Some of the voice actors are trying too hard, it sounds more like their reading a script and you feel NO EMOTION FROM IT. They can't improve if they don't hear the truth. Truth is never nice.

  • @ReignlawXV I'm assuming that you're upset with Fairy Tail's dub for that very reason. Let me counter you.

Natsu is supposed to be free-spirited. A child version of Goku. Todd Haberkorn has proven that he can pull off the comedic light-hearted moments and the epic, serious ones quite well. Need some proof? Go watch Ling from FMA or Death the Kid from Soul Eater.

  • can someone help my cousin wants to know the name of a anime about a angel girl who falls to earth and is saved by a guy who becomes bound to her and makes a wish to remove everyone one on earth if any one knows the name please leave a pm thanks

  • @shinestar1 ugly yet beautiful world?

  • @shinestar1 sounds like Heavens Lost Property

  • 17!!!!XD

  • English dub is OK, but i prefer subtitles, that way I learn some Japanese, and I don't get bored just listening i have to read also.

  • Lt. Hackeye!!! Winrey!!!!

  • @GoldC11 I can hear Hawkeye, and I can see Winry (but not hear her, of course).

  • @GoldC11 Well, that was easy.

    Now, can you spot Scar?

  • im not saying the dub is bad but when Natsu gets angry in the dub it sounds like ass when he gets pissed off in the sub its sounds epic as hell

  • @xXxXAssassin Well, he still does better at sounding angry than his Animax voice. I could even show you a comparison.

  • @binkyboy448 Yeah i know im just a sub person though im to used to it so when i try to watch dub it sounds way to cheesy they cant capture the emotion the chaacters are suppose to have.

  • @xXxXAssassin "Can't capture the emotion"? They capture plenty of it! Especially in the sad scenes. I can almost tell by the sounds of their voices that the actors are actually tearing up when their characters do.

I know you prefer the Japanese, but to say they can't emote, or at least not on as nearly a believable level as the Japanese, really is pushing it.

  • @binkyboy448 They can but when you watch sub for years you just get to use to it ive watched about 8 animes in dub and like 200 animes in sub lol.

  • @xXxXAssassin Well, then this is clearly where we differ in thought, because I have seen this anime since it first aired, continue to watch each new episode, and have seen all 116 episodes that have aired. And I still think this dub is as good a way to watch Fairy Tail as any other way (besides the Animax dub). In fact, this is how I'm rewatching the series.

  • Tch, Natsu....

  • @ichitiger4rukicat Yeah, I wonder what lengths he'll go to get that 17...

  • Interesting how people complain about old-sounding voices... It's not like the Japanese voice actors/actresses sound like teenagers either. It's just easier to nitpick when you understand what's being said.

  • I pick dub because i live in America

    and we speak American!

  • Somehow I knew Colleen would voice Erza...-_- Not surprising.

  • I love the dub! If you don't like it, don't watch! I wish they would put up the dubbed episodes soon! :D

  • Hmm...Idk, but I think the voices should have been more youthful, They're supposed to be like in their teens , not old ppl...Erza is only 19(as per fairytail wiki xD) and they have her sounding like a 30+ lady o.o. Ok english voices but could be better :)

  • @KariLuvDanny Well, considering Erza's Japanese voice actor is older than her English one, and using her normal speaking voice...

  • Why are people still complaining. I have heard better dubs, but this is still pretty damn good. And I really like Brina as Juvia. It sounds natural.

  • wtf? in japanese juvia annoys the crap out of me but in the english dub i actually..like her? o_O i think its because THIS is how i envisioned her to sound like instead. funimation did a good job with the dub, this is my favorite clip so far! :D

  • @Lovelyrisa97 At last, another who I can sympathize with (except I like her in Japanese too).

  • 1:29 LING?!?!?!?

  • awsome! itss in english!

  • English voice actors will always be different from Japanese voice actors. Different language, different culture, different way of talking. With that said, Japanese is usually the most preferred by otakus.

But take porn, for example. English porn is fine, but Japanese porn sounds like cats getting skinned.

  • Personally, I think Juvia's voice should have been higher... I'm slowly getting use to JuviaxGray, but in the English dub, Juvia sounds way older than Gray XP

  • I don't mind most of the dub voices, but Juvia's just really irks me.

  • @shadowfaxpwns 2:59 awkward

  • Hey it's sgt frogs voice !!! :P

  • erza and lucy is sexy !

  • lol natsu's voice sounds like edward from Fma :D

  • @XPain3X Well, it's not him.

  • I laughed at 1:36

  • what episode is this

  • I was curious in this show....not anymore....

  • @ultimadrago ...What?

  • A Fairy Tail necklace? Wow...real subtle Juvia.

  • she calls "Airza" Ersa" ?

  • @sedeek55 Well, how would you pronounce the name "Ernest"?

  • @sedeek55 Since Fairy Tail doesn't take place in Japan, Japanese pronunciation rules need not apply. Most of the characters have English names anyway, so I think it's natural for English pronunciation rules to be applied. And now that we're on the subject, does it bug us when "Gray" (clearly an English word) sounds like 2 syllables in Japanese (or Mandarin for that matter)? - Probably not, so it's really not that big a deal. :)

  • sub is sooo much better

  • @lZumma You mean Japanese is better.

  • and wtf D.Gray man voice?

  • @Sirblader11 Also, he has Allen's voice, but Natsu's personality. Things even out. :3

  • sub > Dub ALWAYS

  • @Sirblader11 Yu Yu Hakusho, Baccano, Black Lagoon, Hellsing, Cowboy Bebop. Much better in English than Japanese.

  • @Sirblader11 No, Japanese > English ALWAYS.

But in this case, I'd have to go with dub > sub. And yes, there IS a difference.

  • @Sirblader11 go watch dragonball z (not kai, the original) and tell me that its better in Japanese, oh wait its not

  • Though I read a lot of sub/dub complaints but I read a few comments who think the animation for Fairy Tail isn't good! I couldn't believe my eyes~! The animation is awesome how could people criticize it??????!!!!!!!!!!

  • Dub-haters,get the fuck out.Let those of us who appreciate anime in our own language enjoy.

"Waa waa,Juvia speaks no 3rd person like the Japanese, waa. She speak in 1st person like most American, waa."Boo hoo, just switch to subs & shut up.

  • @Jeddy027 Agreed people need to stop complaining because Funi is doing a great job with this show. Just because it isn't exactly like the Japanese doesn't mean it's the end of the world. I personally like the dub better than the Jap version. I know people don't like Todd playing Natsu but his voice fits with someone as goofy as Natsu. Great job Funi. Keep up the great work.

  • @AnimeGirlLover015 Totally agree. Todd can do serious well but he really shines when doing some offbeat goofy type character and his work over the years speaks for itself. Funi knows what it's doing and I give them plenty of credit. It isn't easy when there's so many critics out there. Keep going guys, you're awesome

  • @Jeddy027 THANK YOU! A few reasons why I never watch dubbed anime on YT is because either they don't have it OR they do and all I find in the comments are people bitching about the dubs...such a pain.

  • Happy's voice does not sound right.

  • 1:33 Sounds like Ling Yao kind of...

  • @senpai12341 Same voice actor.

  • @senpai12341 Geez,I wonder why.Certainly has nothing to do with the fact that their both voiced by the same person.

  • It's weird how this seems to have way better production values than the episodes currently being aired in Japan.

  • @stino22 It seems to rise and fall every now and again.

  • The Dub is different...in a eh way.But it's Funi so of course it's gonna be great.

  • not the best animation; but I do like the English dubbers (Which is a reallly rare case)

Thanks Funimation, I'm considering of purchasing this stuff ^^

  • Gotta love Fairy Tail :) I hope it eventually comes out in collections like they are doing with one piece

  • ......wardrobe power..... really....

  • they have natsu's one weakness.......gambling

  • @XxJxDawgxX ahem, Transportation.

  • CURSE YOU 17!!!!!

  • OMG if you dont like it dont watch. I personally love this dub and all the va's put so much effort in this and love the show. Stop hating on it they are doing a great job. If you like the Jap better then dont watch this. Jeez. Btw I love this clip :)

  • @AnimeGirlLover015 I'm sure this is the first time a lot of us have seen a clip of this dub. So expressing our pleasure/displeasure is only natural. Those who dislike it probably won't be watching it again. But it's not like we clicked on this thinking, "Hmm, I HATE dubs. I'm gonna leave hate comments about this even if it's done extremely well."

  • @Bristecom Unless,their just dub-hating trolls.

  • "WHY, ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER?!!! WHY?!!!"

  • All the voices are OK except grey's

  • Meeeeh... These voices sound nothing like the ones I gave the characters (in my head) based on the manga. I am disappoint.

  • Natsu acts like quite a few people at casinos.

  • did they change the voices? I started out watching Fairy Tail in English but went to Japanese after episode 48. And everyone sounds really different to me.

Did someone else Dub Fairy Tail before FUNimation?

If so I liked those voices way better! These ones (even tho I love the voice actor for Natsu) ruin the characters for me. They don't fit. Natsu just seems weaker to me. And Gray voice is too deep.

The old opening was voiced an old guy. All of it just doesn't sound right. I don't like it. :(

  • @khirstin1 Animax dubbed Fairy Tail before.

And if you honestly think that the wooden acting, PAINFULLY bad script reading, and an overall lack of diverse voices Animax had to offer due to them having, like, ten voices, then to each their own.

And you wish the narrator of this dub was old? HE'S EIGHTY YEARS OLD. THE NARRATOR OF THIS DUB IS AN EIGHTY YEAR OLD MAN. Odds are, he's a helluva lot older than the narrator of the Animax dub!

  • @binkyboy448 No need to go all caps on me! lol I was only asking a question. and maybe old wasn't the right word. The other narrator voice was richer and I liked it more. and like I said I've been watching it in Japanese from episode 49 up until now (ep115). and I was referring to the sound of their voice not their talent. Everyone has their own opinion!

    Thanks for answering my question.

Try not to be such ass next time you do :D

  • @khirstin1 Besides, you may not like the voices, but at least they're true to character! For example, Natsu sounds goofy and kind of flimsy, but if you ask me, that benefits his character. Considering he's the hero, it'd be boring for him to sound like it. His charm is that he's an unlikely hero, and to have qualities that make his heroism unlikely without making him seem any less like a good guy does not betray that.

  • @khirstin1 There's a difference between SOUNDING the part and actually BEING RIGHT for the part.

You may think that Animax had better voices, but Funi has better actors. And these voice ACTORS actually sound like they try.

Besides, I'd prefer Makarov to sound like an actual old and funny yet wise man over some kind of 30-something-year-old Papa Smurf wannabe impersonator who can't express anger beyond mild irritation any day.

  • @immblueversion same thing I told the other person goes for you too :D

  • @immblueversion In my opinion, it sounds like they're trying too hard. They often don't sound natural. Maybe not everyone can pick up on that but I definitely notice it. However, the director is likely more to blame than the voice actors.

  • That casino looks the most happiest place to be

  • Same thing happened to me at Circus Circus

  • Juvia's voice isn't what I expected, but it some what works for me cause she seems real mellow like her character should be and no offense to the ones that enjoy Juvia's Japanese voice she seemed too "excited" and it really doesn't fit her image. Sorry ^ ^'.

  • @Msasianchic Exactly! She should sound slower/more mellow and at that scene a little more shy/nervous and less excited. This voice completely changes her character for me which is mega-disappointing. Oh well, Fairy Tail is the one manga I prefer over the anime anyway.

  • ...........no....juvia just.....no.......

  • @loveranime199514 No...what?

  • Not a fan of Juvia's dub... but I can't wait until part 3 ships. Preordered each part as soon as they went up.

  • i already owe that and seen it cause it got shipped to me early. i hope part 6 will be made fingers crossed

  • There's Minecraft in my Fairy Tail, now it tastes weird.

  • @AnimePrincessMelody Funny how Fairy Tail existed before Minecraft.

  • @immblueversion dub sucks, dubstep does not. flux pavilion digital cotroler :D

  • dubs suck...

  • @nickranzeru Well, they certainly suck at not being said that they suck. But do all of them deserve it?

  • What uh... What happened to Natsu and Happy? I'm fine with Erza, Lucy, and Grey, but that Watanuki (idk if that's even the voice actor, but the voices are similar) voice doesn't fit him at all.

  • The dub is pretty good, the Juvia thing kinda sucks, but the voices match fairly well for the most part.

  • I seem to have lost my underware, my i borrow yours :D.... not in this ep... but it was funny in the other :D

  • I just remembered why I don't watch Funimation dubs anymore...

  • @anime549 oh, please do care to explain

  • Already have my copy!!!

  • That blocky guy (Wally?)'s voice sounds a little gruff... but I'm okay with it.

  • When Erza asked how she looked this is my answer "I think I'm in love."

  • DAYUM, Natsu's making half as big a deal over a number as haters are about a speech pattern!

  • @binkyboy448 lmao Bets comment yet!

  • @FairyTailPodcast Sadly, that's not what the people who made the haters' comments the top comments think...

But then they're probably too busy pounding on their keyboards begging for their desire for 17--I mean, expectations--to be fulfilled.

  • @binkyboy448 Well these are the customers speaking. There's always going to be the hardcore dub/Funimation crowd that won't mind any dub quality. But obviously a lot of people are disappointed with the dub work so that likely means they won't buy it/watch it. If Funimation wants to make more money, they will listen to the feedback these people give them. It's constructive criticism not hatred (although there are plenty of haters out there).

  • @Bristecom Not ALOT of people are really disappointed. Just that some don't like specific voices is all. It really does depend on one's taste. If you constantly try to match the english and japanese dubs together you're missing the point of tonal differences in the language barrier.

  • @ElegeantFencer Well yeah, I don't think they need to match the original Japanese dub. There were quite a few dubs that went off the original by a lot but were still very well done. I'm just noticing a trend with Funimation where a lot of the voices and dialog lack authenticity. It ruins the characters/story and loses my interest.

  • @Bristecom Well that's an opinion I can respect.

  • Well, now that we've discerned that Juvia sounds like how she does and the haters are gonna hate, may we move on to how AWESOME Mr. Blocky sounds? (I like to call him that. But know that I know his name is Wally.)

  • @immblueversion Yeah, he's the only one in this clip who gets a thumbs up from me. :P

  • @immblueversion Oh and Happy gets my thumbs up too! Everyone else fails though. :(

  • @immblueversion Yeah I do like Blocky's voice. The actor did a good job at that.

  • The Japanese version is always better than the English version.

But this dub is better than the sub.

If what I'm saying makes no sense to anyone, or if I appear to be contradicting myself, it just proves how muddied your priorities towards anime formats are.

  • Yeah know ive never heard grays last name before

  • @darksuper54 Fullbuster.

It was said in episode 2.

  • Lawl, Haters gonna Hate. I like her voice. Sounds fitting, Funimation does a good job.

  • That guy sounds like Death the Kid.

  • Oh, and I love how both of the two top comments are complaining about Juvia's not speaking in 3rd person. Bonus points for not having proper grammar. And you do realize that FUNimation can actually SEE your comments, right?

    Idiot weeaboos...

  • Why are people complaining that Juvia doesn't speak in 3rd person? It's not that big of a deal.

How many people do YOU know speak in 3rd person?

  • @stargirl1254 It's the idea of changing a character. What person do you know has super strength like Superman? Or super speed like the Flash? None? Oh well then I guess we should go change those aspects of those characters.

    =^^= Nya

  • @RocketMeowth That's different. They're just changing the way she talks. Does it change her personality? No. It seems the weeaboos are making a big deal over nothing.

    Excuse me for that. *bows*

  • @RocketMeowth Yes but, Juvia is a Japanese anime character not an American character. They are trying to make Fairy Tail appeal to an AMERICAN audience...I have never seen someone in the US speak in third-person, it's weird. People in Japan seem to do it a lot, and that is seen as normal from what I've heard. Besides It didn't affect the dub experience as much as I thought it would've since...well I worried for the same thing whether or not they were going to change her speech ;).

  • I like the fact Juvia doesnt talk in the 3rd person. that was borderline weird in Japanese, but that would have been weird in english. And her having a normal pitched voice, just a plus

  • If you guys knew your facts she didn't even talk in 3rd person in this scene but as Lucy would say. Whatever...

  • "Don't be mean, 17!" "AAah! CURSE YOU, 17!"

    God, I love Happy.

  • OMG STOP BITCHING!! god if ur gonna bitch thats what form sites are for.

  • Sounds fine to me. The rest of you need to stop bitching.

  • they changed natsu juvia and happy's voiced a bit

  • What is with Juvia and her voice D:? I'm contempt with the others I guess but JUVIA?! What the hell -_-

  • Never did liked english dubs and never will.

  • Armor is always sexy!

  • only Erza sounds alright

  • gah....

  • Juvia and Happy are ruined and Gray's voice is a little too deep for my liking

  • I hate dub haters!!!

  • Ehh, Juvia speaking in third person would be very weird in English... I know alot of people want it to be in the dub, but it just wont fit >> get what I mean?

  • @Epicwildfox Indeed. I, for one, never liked it when English speakers spoke in third-person, particularly when it was a Japanese translation. It was actually more grating than anything.

  • Minecraft guy?...In anime?

  • @Mecks089 And to think he existed at least 2 years before Minecraft...

    MINECRAFT STOLE FROM FAIRY TAIL!

(Naw, they didn't steal from Fairy Tail... :P)

  • third person talk is only ONE aspect of Juvia, but it's one aspect that makes NO sense in English. How many people speak in third person in English?

  • @LintuWaterfall While it is true that addressing oneself in the third person is a fairly common cultural thing (among girls) in Japan, Juvia does it to an extent that seems beyond the norm...especially as that habit tends to be associated with trying to be cute, while Juvia is first presented as cold and distant. I think, in this case, her speaking in first-person is an error. Otherwise, I would normally agree with you.

  • "Don't be mean seventeen!"

But he's an evil android built by DR. Gero who had it coming when he was carelessly absorbed by cell and then being reborn and destroyed again in GT... OH WAIT, you mean the number!

  • It kinda bothers me how natsu's voice actor doesn't bother to change his character at all from Allen Walker's. Kinda kills the illusion for me

  • @mastaotenko: I SERIOUSLY suggest looking up books on acting or taking some kind of acting course because it wouldn't be easy to understand that there's more to acting from one character to a different one than just altering your voice.

Not attacking you or anything by the way, I'm merely trying to help you understand something.

  • @Hypeathon Actually I'm verry aware of this which is why I didn't say anything about his voice besides identifying the actor. Todd's acting kinda wavers and isn't there in allot of his roles, he's done great work but most of the time it seems like he just doesn't care. And yes just so you know changing your voice for the role in voice acting is important especially when you do multiple characters but thats not my problem with him here its that his personality in this version is the same as dgrey

  • @mastaotenko Just like how I can still hear Simon from Gurren Lagann in his Japanese voice...

  • @immblueversion what? I don't know what your asking.

  • @mastaotenko I didn't ask anything.

I can still hear hints of everyone's voices from every other role their voices have done, regardless of how similar or different the roles they play are.

  • @immblueversion of course you can, Its impossible to hide your orignal voice completely but that wasn't my point my point was that Todd(the voice actor) doesn't put as much effort into some of his roles and oddly enough he ussually does better in supporting cast like Ling fma, Firo Baccano, The Earl D grey, Italy hetalia, Sakuma summer wars, But roles like Raki claymore, Allen d grey, natsu fairy tail come off as half assed to me and I don't see why this is when he is obviously not a bad actor.

  • The voices are good...

But you got Juvia ALL WRONG
