I just thought racism there was still as bad as it was back then. But, some places are in the world are more extreme than others. I mean, I lived in the southern part of the United States, but that doesn't mean that I'm racist like some people I know were down there. But, enough of my rambling.
Why are you African-Americans so caught up with the light and dark-skinned complexions like that? Get away from that complex and grow up please. I'm Black and from Africa, but I don't give a crap about skin complexions, in Africa there are dark, medium to light complexions. So what? They are all Black. In my own family are all shades, even redheads as well, however we're all pure. Black people grow up!
@amasonga Because you and your family weren't brought up in this country & they didn't experience years of conditioning like black americans & other races have here. Before you simply say "grow up" like people want to be caught up in this complex, read some history about what black americans were taught about themselves in this country.
@TXrangers100 Well there's some truths in what you're saying. To an extent I didn't experience the "conditioning" as you imply. Nevertheless I did encounter racism too as you have in the places that I lived, in Europe and America too, see. There seem to be a complex of inferiority among you in regard to superficial things like skin shade. This is why I implied that you should grow up and get out of it! It's a childish behavior.
@TXrangers100 Trust me I'm well acquainted with American history, probably more than the average American. Additionally, I even taught it to American children, so don't go there. I'm perfectly aware that the White supremacy movement in American installed a skin color system in America for years. However, times have changed, people are more educated and it's the 21st century. Mere skin shade shouldn't separate Black people like that!
@amasonga Yes, but that kind of deep conditioning can't be changed just because it's a new time. If we were all able to just instantly stop irrational, prejudice thoughts due to conditioning, then we would have much fewer problems. In my opinion, ideas about color will not change for a very long time if ever.
@TXrangers100 Wait a minute, are you saying that you want to stay with your complexes about skin color? Times have changed, you have to move. @amasonga No. I personally don't have a complex. I'm just being realistic about it. None of things really matter, but people will always act as if they do.

The alternative is de-valuing material things and to stop approaching life like you have to have more than necessary. The earth is getting fucked up behind human consumption, thats NOT opinion thats a fact. We ,in the U.S.A.,have been taught to be greedy and to dis-regard the important things in life, like each other, and our health and mental fitness. We have also been taught that every thing is good for you ,as long as it makes money.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
No ,what I meant was, We allocate money differently than we've been taught to. Black folks have been systematically trained how to spend our money, resources, and value. We have to take responsibility for our choices, and say, hey,I don't HAVE to continue to strive for the things, commercials say are important. Why do you think our family structure is going to hell? If U prioritize incorrectly, then you say my money and the ability to buy things is more important than anything.

You guys are so funny. My siblings and I were always called "The white kids" from our cousins. My dad looks just like a white man. He's biracial and my mother is mixed. I have had issues with darker skin women because they assume that I think I'm stuck up just by my appearance. I'm a very down to earth person. I'm not colorstruck at all, and never have been. I don't even think about complexion and I am brown. In my family, I have been called dark by my lighter-complexioned relatives. I have also been called light by my darker-complexioned relatives. It's silly, we are all family.

Dark skin helps protect against skin cancer that develops as a result of ultraviolet light radiation, causing mutations in the skin.
Dark skin prevents an essential B vitamin, folate from being destroyed.
White Australians have some of the highest rates of skin cancer as evidence of this expectation.
Evidence from sports suggests that Darker people recover faster from injury(melanin, anyone?)

They don't have a leg to stand on, but we as a people in USA/UK do, but want more. Places issues into perspective.
However, not many people are aware of the problems in SA.

Exactly,or at least not one that speaks to OUR identity, and NOT our oppressors. They have done this, pacify the Negroes, let them have a few successes and that should calm them down, and it works. Because We fall for it every-time.

Thats why I hope to start my own business. The thing is most black people seem to be in competition with each other. I bet you 110% that the people who will help me achive this will be white.
I don't see that many black business or networks.

Yes, brightlights456X,this is sad,but true. And actually,it will be mostly by your own, hand,as the system is not really set up for blacks to achieve,we do in spite of it. Surprisingly their are more & more support groups and and philanthropists popping up,so things are turning around.

another comment I don't understand where people get this oh you're ech. bi-racial so you can't id. with black people... most people in america are not purely one race and black people aren't the only ones suffering with this constructed belief of race and color

What people don't understand is that the hur of you skins is a result of the region your ancestors originated in and you may not always match your parents

how is that disrespectful? my mother is black and im half of her. how could i not identify with both when i am both? im around both "cultures" when im with different sides of the family and i always feel as though i fit in. you dont know what youre talking about.

You guys are so funny. My siblings and I were always called "The white kids" from our cousins. My dad looks just like a white man. He's biracial and my mother is mixed. I have had issues with darker skin women because they assume that I think I'm stuck up just by my appearance. I'm a very down to earth person. I was in the mall and a couple passed by me and when I looked up the girl gave me a death look because she thought I was looking at her man, he was ugly. I love our race (all shades).

sooo true about mixed people! im mixed and people always think im brazilian or something cause im light skinned and have long curly "white people" hair...my youngest brother even looks white. people always think were adopted if were only with our white dad or only our very dark mom. my black friends call me white, and my white friends call me black. i can identify with both and love it! and you guys!

if Michelle was white, I dont think Obama woulda got in...its a shame tho b/c his mom was white and therefore, he is white and black sooo technically, he should be able to pick either race to be with. but considering that he identifies himself as black, if he was with a white woman A LOT of ppl would've been hating on him. its sad but true.

I'm not colorstruck at all, and never have been. I don't even think about complexion and I am brown. In my family, I have been called dark by my lighter-complexioned relatives. I have also been called light by my darker-complexioned relatives. It's silly, we are all family.
