That being said... One must admit, some tenants of the Bible provides a good blueprint for a person to live; not lying or stealing, no excessive use of alcohol or adultery, love thy neighbor; these are all virtues that all parents try to instill in their children to become decent, honest, productive citizens. But religion is not needed to teach those things; just takes a good involved parent, and keeping the child away from the wrong influences.
Religion is losing traction because of technology, scientific breakthoughs, 24-hour media. There are seemingly more logical explanation other than simply GOD. People don't seem to realize that religions were started by a more primative being who could not explain the sun, illness, death, floods, earthquakes, and science in general. Now we can. Science cannot explain everything, but they tend to trump religion. So people aren't held captive as much by fear, even of GOD, so no need to believe.
I think there's a lot of people who have are and have been atheist or agnostic, but they quietly go along to get along. And many people just identify themselves as Christian, but really don't think about it much. It's now becoming safe to come out and be honest, and science has progressed to the point where we realize we don't need the God explanation to explain everything. This is all good news.
Like my grandma always told me, "It's better to die believing in a "higher power", than to live a life of non-belief". Having faith will make your path in life seem much clearer.
There is no God and there is no Jesus Christ. I'm pretty sure that statement to be correct. Read the Bible, and if u still believe after, you're an idiot. We don't need more protest christians spouting out their hate speeches and lies. Please no!
And every study of the church shows that Americans overstate their attendance. About 50% tell pollsters they go to church every week, but when you actually count the people in the pews it's only about 25%.
it stands to reason that america is losing faith in God,but thats OK,all of this has already been prophesied in the Bible,2 Timothy 3:1-4, true believers will never lose their faith in God,and one day God will make an eternal seperation,Matthew 25:32-33, make sure you are on the right side when He doe's.
@3inchesofblood1 - I can acctually understand someones stance on wanting to destroy the world or to kill off masses of people. But to worship a figure that you can't prove is there and say that is why you want to 'oblterate' something is pretty stupid to me. Just as following anything you can't see because that seems pretty delusional.
Christianity is not the only moral religion and it is prejudice against many types of people and refuses animal rights
Pastafarianism has a much more stable and fair set of morals and we would never refer to Christianity as non belief. this is insulting that you call us aitheists, and more so that you associate the lack of christians with the downfall of morality, when it is in fact the downfall of Christian morality that is putting excessive moral responsibility on Pastafarians AND atheists
20% don't attend a religious service at all and she's shocked by that!
But, yet no one seems shocked that nearly 50% say they attend religious services every week?? The # of cars parked around town on Christmas Eve and Easter Sunday would beg to differ with those numbers!
Some people are gonna have to answer to the Lord - He might need to start taking attendance and start counting absences.
What makes them think they can proclaim all pastafarians to be non-believers?!? They have absolutely NO RIGHT to make assumptions about my level of faith! D=<
That's crazy! Well.. I believe in God and Jesus! In these hard times, I found myself in comfort. I mean, as a athiest, where do I get the comfort at when believeing nothing is all you have?
Being atheist says absolutely nothing about one believes. The only thing atheism says about someone is that they do NOT believe in god. It's like saying that you don't believe in ghosts. Doesn't mean you don't believe in ANYTHING.
Most atheists still believe in love, friendship, beauty, life, and Pluto being a planet no matter what the scientists say.
As for comfort, how about from friends and family and your fellow man? You know, people who actually exist?
@spacesex101 oh, and btw... Whether or not something is "comforting" has absolutely no say on whether it's true or not. I might find it comforting to believe that Santa will get me a meaningful present even if no one else does, but I'll still be rather disappointed come Chrifsmas day.
I know what a atheism is. I'm saying that what happens when you have no more family, friends and nobody around u? When u reach to that point in life when you're all alone, to a athiest... where is the comfort? If an athiest believes in love friend and family but yet ends up losing it all.. where is the comfort now?
When you have no more family or friends, then comfort is not what you need. It may be what you want, but what you need is to pick yourself up off the ground and take hold of your own life to make it better because there is not an all-powerful deity around to make your life better for you.
It might be easier to believe that there is still someone to turn to, but that doesn't make it true or a better choice. In the end, it all comes down to you. You have to decide if you deserve something better,
or if you are going to lay down and take what the world is throwing at you. Are you strong enough to try?
I heard a saying once, that god never gives us more than we can handle. Oddly enough, I believe it is true. Not because a god is interfering with our lives, but because we are usually a lot stronger than we think we are.
Is it scary? The idea that someone might NOT be strong enough, and that no one is coming to the rescue? Hell yeah, it's terrifying. Sometimes one's own will is not enough, and that is the most terrible tragedy. But I believe in hope. I strive to be that hope whenever someone else needs it. I will be the good Samaritan, because if I don't help then who will? As hard as it is, we only have each other to count on.
@spacesex101 - Atheists just go on living their lives and find something to love like science, music, and whatever else. We don't need comfort for anything and I honestly find that not believing in the Christian God is much more comforting. Then I don't have to worry about a God that wants to kill over half the nation and comands that and also condems anyone who doesn't love him and believe blindly to hell. Why wouldn't I want a God to not exist so we can all rest in peace?
@ThenewfallingsacreD. I myself believe in god but I hate religion. You know? I know people are dying because of religion but thats because it's religion. I hate it. But I know there is a god but mankind can't comprehend with it without violence. Without proofing the other wrong. But thats just me.

Read the Bible and it didn't make sense?! There's a shocker!! Well at least you read it. A lot of "Christians" don't bother.

Satanists are dumber, if not dumbest, of any "religious" group. We shouldn't want to "obliterate" anyone. Seriously wth is your problem?

@3inchesofblood1 and yet Christians kills more people then satanists and atheists combined

This is excellent news
Americans calling themselves Christian in 1990 86%
Americans calling themselves Christian in 2008 76%
This is still too high.
Satanists and Atheists must do more to obliterate this harmful religion in America before it destroys the world.
