sick am from northshore and my fam part form big island and we look after the heiau on the northshore ohau over waimea bay respect dat place and feel the mana there sick to know that someone else know about that alohaz
this was very beautiful.......but what about before kamehameha.....what about the kakalia bloodline.......its not ali'i but my %100 grandmother claims we are high priests of oahu.....she rightfully owns and has papers stating that, waikiki, north shore, and parts of central oahu belongs to my family.........idk much history on my ancestors an i would like to know more.....but i was raised with a hapa father who believes in america an there ways.......
Pai'ea Kamehameha had something Batusmoka can only wish for, that is LOKAHI, 'Ohana, and Aloha.... Stacie808, dont give him the time of day. Na Aumakua will take care of those people... Ha 'Ole, listen and learn, Kamehameha brought unity and peace to all mankind, it was ha'ole's ancestors and his drugs that oppose Kamehameha and his people. So brah, smoke ur crack, but stay off Kamehameha...Na Aumakua, mai kalahiki a kala kau, mai ka hookui a ka halawai....we sommon the ancestors...
peace and unity??? bahahaha you have no idea how much kamehameha fucked up hawaiis future. youre too naive and just concentrate on "oh im hawaiian and so is he so ainokea, he da bes" haha idiots
I'm not in any way defending Batu's statements but he does raise an interesting point. Kamehameha was not very well liked in his time period. Hawaiians today forget that during Kamehameha's time, Hawaiians of Maui and Kaua'i resented him. He taxed the maka'ainana and every returning Hawaiian sailor had his salary and clothes confiscated by Kamehameha. But in fairness to Kamehameha, he was a lot more humane than Kahekili and unlike later ali'i he was a farmer and reformer.
yeah, in fact kamehameha had one of the lowest status of chiefs in hawaii. his mana was very low compared to King Kaumualii of Kauai who the hawaiians thought he had "blue blood" b/c he had sooo much mana. kamehameha only became "big" b/c at his birth there was a shooting star in which hawaiian mytholgy states whoever this happens to at birth will unite the islands. so they had to hide him in Waipio valley b/c other chiefs wanted him dead.
That's not accurate. Kamehameha's major advantage was not his genealogy but his status as kahuna and kahu of Kuka'ilimoku. People followed him because he was intelligent and he was a kahuna and had the backing of the religious sector. That was Kamehameha's advantage over the other ali'i. Secondly he knew how to manipulate both other ali'i and foreigners. Third, he was hard working and very loyal to his soldiers.
that may be true but its a FACT that kamehameha's mana was one of the lowest. and great he was manipulative, just like the whites who invaded hawaii. king kaumualii had one of the highest mana of any chief in the history of hawaii b/c he came from such a royal backround. my hawaiian history teacher teaches me about this so i dont know how u would disagree. also did u know that kamehameha was 6'6 i believe or was it 6'7?
First, where is your palapala? You are just repeating hear say. I am repeating documents and books. Before you speak, learn y our history yourself not from "who my teacher said so so it must be correct". Second, Kamehameha was from a junior line of a junior ali'i line. But mana does not neccessarily come solely by genealogy. Mana can come from other ways as in the case of Kuali'i--the elected king of O'ahu, Umi-a-liloa, etc who were all junior chiefs.
shes not just some teacher like you said. her name is sabra kauka, idk if u have heard of her b4 but she is well know on kauai for her knowlege on hawaiians history and chants. plz do not disrespect her. but u still cant deny kaumualii had greater mana than kamehameha.
You are the one disrespecting her by claiming you got this info from her. You brought it up not me. So you should be more careful on how you articulate yourself.
Secondly again mana does not neccessarily come from genealogy. But by the gods and by your actions. You can read "Nana I Ke Kumu" on that. But you are trying to refer to rank, Kaumuali'i was a higher ranking ali'i than Kamehameha but not as high as High Chiefess Keopuolani, Queen Kalama Hakaleleponi or Kamehameha II, III, IV, or V.
Please Protest the movie, "The Barbarian Princess". It is not a documentary but a "historical drama" based on the life of Princess Ka'iulani but it grossly distorts history and does not even include Robert Wilcox or Prince Kawananana-- her fiance in 1897.
Please also boycott any lectures and classes with Puakea Nogelmeier, who is not even a Kama'aina or Hawaiian, because he was the one that approved the script and refused to allow Native Hawaiian input in the script.
Oh and to the A-hole! Batusmoka808- what the f*cka talking about kamehameha was a prick! F*ck you k! how dare you insult the hawaii's king! brah you must be on batu! you f*cken cronic! betta wise up A-hole!
and further more... if any one harm's you in a life threatenining way, call the cops on me cause i'd gladly pay the price to no longer have to remember you... from an "Unconcerned about you" kanaka maoli of the de jure archipaligo of hawailoa...
not what i am trying to say is hawaiians on the other islands (all but big island) didnt want be conquered and united as one. they were happy with their own island kingdoms. the haoles just manipulated kamehameha giving him guns and cannons so it would be impossile winning against him with spears and other hawaiian weapons. and once hawaii was unified the haole went in for the kill and stole all the land. fuck hawaii as a whole, i shouldnt even be part of it.
Batu I think you need to reread your history. Who was ali'inui of Maui? Kahekili. Who was ali'inui of Kaua'i, Kahekili's brother in law. Who was ali'inui of O'ahu? Kahekili's half brother. At the time of Cook, 7 out of the 8 major islands was under Kahekili. Before that, the four kingdoms were ruled under two dynasties, Nana and Ulu. Hawai'i was always on the verge of unification. Besides ALL THE ALI'I HAD GUNS and ALL OF THEM HAD WHITE ADVISORS including Kaumuali'i of Kaua'i.
yah but we didnt have fuckin cannons and all the other guys from the rest of the islands on our side. so there was no way we couldve won. and ofr the record alot of the other chiefs hated kamehameha for the shit he was doing. we may have at least lasted on the shore of Wailua all the way up to the heiau, but idk from there its anyones game. they just had way too much guns and ppl compared to the other islands. such an unfair battler.
Yes did they. Fort Elizabeth and Fort Catherine on Kaua'i ring a bell? Or those marks on the Pali in O'ahu? Those are from canons. All of the ali'i had heavy duty canons. You can still see the Russian canons of Kaumuali'i and Kahekili on Fort Street in Honolulu.
You know you sound like Lorrin Thurston's book, The Hawaiian Republic. You ever heard of Kaumuali'i II and his revolt of 1823-6? Kaua'i originally came under Kamehameha I by treaty in 1810. The original are in Windsor Castle. After 1823 when Kame. II was in Brazil, Kaumuali'i II revolted with French help and he was crushed. Kaumuali'i I and II both had lots of foreign advisors. But they were bad military strategists and most Kaua'i people disliked Kaumuali'i II more than Kame. II.
i dont know about kaumualii the second, but i know the original kaumualii was loved by all and was a man of the people. i pass where he was born everyday.
Well like I said, this whole thing about Kaumuali'i (should be pronounced Ka-umu-ali'i) is mute. His great grandchildren, the Kawananakoas, are now the most senior ali'i line in Hawai'i. If Hawai'i was independent monarchy today, most likely the mo'i would be the direct descendants of Kaumuali'i. In a way, Kaumuali'i won. That is what the kaona of "Kulia i Ka Nu'u" meant. Kulia (Julia Kapi'olani, granddaughter of Kaumuali'i, the House of Kaumuali'i) i ka Nu'u (on the summit/throne).
Anyways your arguments are mute. Why? The major candidates for the Hawaiian Throne are the Kawananakoa Family who are the direct descendants of Kaumuali'i and all the chiefs of Kaua'i. So instead of promoting some mythical atooi, you should support the Kaw3ananakoa claims to the unified Hawaiian Throne.
im not saying youre acting smug or anything but its not my fault sabre (hawaiian teacher) never taught me these things. you mustve got some special eduacation or inside info about his kinda stuff cus all of its new to me and was never in the books. so the rightfull heir is a direct descendent of kaumualii?? why not kamehameha since he was the ruler of hawaii. and atooi is not mythical, it was the ORIGINAL name b4 they named it kauai. i ask u not to disrespect the place where i live.
Atooi is the Tahitian name given by Captain Cook's Translator. You can read his journals for that.
The principal candidate for the Hawaiian Throne are the Kawananakoas--who are the direct great grandchildren of Kaumuali'i. They were named as heirs to the Hawaiian Throne by both Kalakaua and Lili'uokalani in accordance to the Hawaiian Constitution.
Understand that its hard to explain these things politely under 500 characters but I want to correct what you are saying because I don't believe Hawaiians should fight Hawaiians or name call but we should use logic and facts arguments to defend our position and/or educate our own people. We have to make sure that all our people get their facts straight and to develop ha'aha'a. That is the kuleana of every Hawaiian. To learn correctly, to teach correctly, and place the lahui above one self.
Mahalo for posting these wonderul photos. I'm very proud to be Hawaiian and consider myself blessed to be part of this beautiful race and culture.

Our King had no reason to be as you mentioned as he was further educated and civilized than whoever and whatever YOU are.
And further more, if your fore fathers followed in the ways of OURS, you would still be rich in culture and tradition as embarrasing as YOURS may be.
