  • As a Irishman I love this song but as a roman catholic I adore this song

  • Part of the reason I became an Anglican, haha

  • From the comments it seems this is one of those rare hymns that Christians of all denominations love equally and can legitimately claim as theirs! St. Patrick, please pray for the divided Church.

  • it's funny...I'm an atheist, but I still greatly enjoy these hymns...must be because i was raised Catholic

  • i love this hymn!!! thank God for the 1982 !!! tehmoose when you write the variation and themes let me know and send me a copy!! i could use that at my parish!

  • I plan on writing an theme and variations of this for my mom's wedding. We're Episcopalians and this is her favorite hymn (mine, too, now that i think about it!).

  • This is a magnificent hymn, particularly the Deirdre verses..... but in my opinion the greatest Anglican hymn is Sine Nomine.... "For All the Saints". And the great simplicity and sublime vocabulary in "Immortal, Invisible" can't be overlooked.

  • As a chorister that sings in a anglican cathedral , it is a great Hymm and prayer !

  • As a Catholic, I want this song to be played at my funeral. Glory be to the father, son and holy spirit. Amen.

  • @josey165 Well, I'm Anglican ... I'd want this played at my wedding, ordination, childrens' baptisms, and my funeral; however, it's hard to get my fellow Episcopalians to sing all the verses at one service! May the Holy and Mighty Name of the Lord God -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit -- be praised forever!

  • @MarcellusTheGreen

not at services of Saint Barnabas in Glen Ellyn, Illinois

a hymn is a prayer set to music so cutting a hymn is like cutting the Lord's prayer

Can you imagine the Lords prayer and skipping the part of forgiving others

  • my favorite Anglican hymn

  • @imsixftsix Anglican?!!

  • @noleyplatz The hymn was translated by Cecil Frances Alexander, who was an Anglican, and married to a Anglican bishop (William Alexander, Bishop of Derry & Raphoe, and later Archbishop of Armagh).

  • @noleyplatz Yes, Anglicans also sing this hymn
