Back in NYC in the 40's I used to go for coffee for Dizzy and Bird and all the guys at BirdLand and Bop City. I would sit on the edge of the bandstand at BirdLand and just inhale and listen to the music. I was just 16 years old but I knew I had to be a musician of some kind.
