  • Interesting, but not helpful.

  • I have Asperger's syndrom and am afraid of the thought that if I would become a parent, my children may get the syndrome from me...

  • i feel like shit i have aspergers syndrome and adhd im 14 and shit at school

  • you spoke you spoke you spoke and said nothing... are we suppose to call that number one the corner to get an appointment with you and be charged for it?

  • I wish he did touch on - the large percentage of mis-diagnoses and it being thrown around with children at such young ages (statistically less powerful) without at least a full multidisciplinary assessment. Nevertheless, I appreciate the normalization and awareness of the life potential he inferred too.

  • Many 'Aspies' go on to live successful lives (hold jobs, are happy, marry, etc.), but many don't. I have a brother in his 40's who has such low self esteem, and so many quirks, that he simply cannot obtain gainful employment or have a relationship with another. We've tried everything. It's so stressful and heartbreaking to see his painful life unfolding with such distress and unhappiness. Then again, i've met many Aspies who hold good jobs and do well socially. Go figure.

  • comments , haha

  • 4 boys & 1 girl 18 years old, 1 girl 17 years old & 1 girl 16 years old friends with ADHD at Madonna School Serving Special Needs Students.

  • Great to watch this....I wish we had this model available here in NZ. If I had a healthy money tree I'd make it happen. I had the honor of visiting Summit Academies in Jan 2007 & it was awesome to see the kids actually enjoying school. A shame that raystem123 is so harsh, yet based on what? I know we need this type of school here in NZ - one day maybe we'll get lucky. Keep up the great work is all I can say to Peter & staff @ Summit Academies.

  • You are an asshole Dimezza you are tricking the people and that school you have in Akron is a joke.

  • Here is a thought to ponder. Autism (all parts of the spectrum) in the Nordic European countries is only one tenth of what it is in the U.S.!!! WHY???

  • maybe they are better at detecting it in the states? where did you get your stat though?

  • Asperger's *IS* a HUGE problem for many kids AND parents!!! Behavioral differences are MANY within the spectrum, and I can tell you it is VERY VERY VERY STRESSFUL to deal with Asperger's children or teens, in many cases, precisely because their behavior is not 'normal'. I should know. I have a 47 year old brother who was only recently diagnosed with Asperger's late in life, and I have a 3.5 year old daughter who has it, and it has greatly affected all of us, in good ways, and bad.

  • @sophiegromit It's very very stressful to deal with parents who try to change who you are and try to make you act in ways and do things which are outside the realm of your nature.

Anytime my parents had an issue with me, it was because they were harassing me. I was content to be left alone. I never asked anything of anyone other than that, yet me of I had a million things. If you have ever had a boss who tried to micromanage your job, imagine someone micromanaging your life.

  • This guy, like so many others, makes Asperger's sound like a problem. There are other factorsto consider: such as normal sub-cultures in schools, where kid's deliberately make it hard for AS people to socialise. Certain social behaviour that's mainstream is deemed acceptable, and AS communication deviates from it and so isn't acceptable. We know how to talk - it's only in a different way. We need to take a good look at ourselves before we judge Asperger's people.

  • I could use your school here in canada

    Thanks for this post

  • Neet! I wish I coulda gone to a school like that when I was a kid...in fact, i dreamed and prayed for it :*)

It was neat seeing photos of girls who look sorta the way i did when i was that age!!
