I miss Tony Schiavone. He was great at hyping the action with his play-by-play especially when it came to heel turns. BTW Scott Steiner was a good heel.
Loved this turn, but WCW had a tendency to turn almost all angles stupid with enough time. Like when Rick single handedly beat Scott and Giant in a match. WCW was all about babyfaces having inexplicable superpowers way before John Cena was cool. And no matter how over a guy was, the SECOND a wrestler turned heel, he needed help from all 38 members of the nWo to beat, like, Alex Wright.
They really killed the nWo. I never understood why they started adding so many new members. When you have Hogan, Hall, and Nash leading the way there's really no reason to start adding guys, especially as many people as they started adding. It could have lasted a lot longer. They didn't need to water it down so much.
@danteras23 So 3 guys vs the entire WCW? What kind of gang only has 3 members? The nWo needed guys like Steiner as their hired goons. He fit in perfect.
This happened in the Cow Palace in San Francisco. WCW never did a PPV in the shark tank. I was there. It was Superbrawl VIII and the Main Event was Hogan and Sting. This event came no where near Superbrawl VII. Historically also that Superbrawl VII was the first PPV of anything from the Cow Palace. If your going to post this, at least get your facts right.
Like anyone else watching wrestling in the 90's, I liked the NWO, but it left a lot of guys without storylines. I don't remember Rick getting revenge on Scott at all.
@SpocksEvilKlone I think Rick and Scott had a match later in the year on PPV (I forget which one); all I remember is that it was drawn out beyond its means, Buff interfered on Scott's behalf and Rick eventually won.
@smoke126857 They have TN....i couldnt even finish that, I was laughing to hard...it's good that wrestling has a retirement program though. I'd love to see AJ styles in WWE.
the best decision Scott ever made; it also turned out to be the worst decision in the long run cuz he really "GOT BIG" (no pun intended) due to his obsession with roids so he can build muscle on top of muscle on top of muscle.......
see this is when wrestling was the BEST!! this is when someone turned heel and everyone went ballistic. No one cares now. no one gets crowd pop like this stuff anymore. sorry these were easily the glory days of wrestling
As good as this heel turn was (you could really hear the crowd react to it), I think it would have been better if Rick Steiner hadn't kicked out at the two count when Hall pinnned him after Scott Steiner's attack. It sort of diluted the heel turn of Scott Steiner because his moves weren;t enough to win the match for the Outsiders.

No I'm not 12. This was 1998 WCW which was almost as bad as 1999. Nothing but fucking heel turns, screwjob finishes and old guys hogging up the main event.
@gabrielholland15 Because it was shocking and exciting. Plus, the nWo weren't bad guys. It wasn't Black and White. The nWo were Faces/Heels because the fans chose what side to take. They were either with them, or against them. The nWo weren't a stable within WCW, they were Invading WCW as a separate entity. That's the genius of it. They were whatever you perceived them to be.
look at the crowd's reaction in the background when scott steiner attacked his brother... they were to my surprise cheering rather than booing him... when he gave the nwo hi 5 to hall and nash, the ovation grew stronger...
Tony Schiavone made this turn that much sweeter. His agitated disbelieving tone at high pitch was just...MWAH!! You don't break up a legendary team like the Steiner Bros. without having that level of commentary.
Best career decision Scott Steiner ever made. Get out of the shadow of being "Rick Steiner's brother" and become Big Poppa Pump, one of the best heels ever.
Dusty Rhodes WAS a fat shit? Dusty Rhodes IS a fat shit. I have to agree with Hartebreaker. They pretty much let anybody into the nWo. They should have kept it more exclusive. When they took everybody good from WCW, that left them without any real competition.
That was genius!! But they should have only had Steiner and Giant as the extra members!! Like Main Even t Mafia or Evolution you can only keep a limited number of members
Yes, The birth of Scott Steiner in wrestling. This made him more popular and opened a career up for himself. Although, it was wrong for him to go against his brother like that-the nWo was the hottest thing running and he was a perfect fit for the nWo...Steiner=best wrestler in WCW.
@BigLee148 It was crazy. But then again it was long-time coming because he looked as if he was doing things differently. I remember watching Souled Out that year, and he, his brother, and Ray Traylor faced the nWo, and he was like taking things into his own hands, bothering Rick and Ray. But this was a DAMN good heel turn.
@gnetikjakhammer ok. I just thought when I watched this for the first time that since he uses the steinerlock as his finisher that he would use it on him since he was in the right position. sorry for my english, I'm from Norway.
I always knew that Dusty was a piece of shit way before this. That's why when he was the top face in Florida he was basically the only face wrestler to get title shots, while his friend's who were contenders like Ron Bass and Ernie Ladd, never got shots at the world title and wound up turning heels because of Dusty always getting his own way,and never letting anyone else get a shot at the world title. Was glad when Ladd and Bass turned on him and gave Dusty a taste of his own medicine.
Hell yeah dude thanks for posting this vid. I was there live when I saw this in San Francisco at the Cow Palace. I was cheering along with the rest of the NWO fans when Scott Steiner turned on his brother. Thank u very much for uploading some great WCW memories my friend ^________^
Good ol' days. I was a Scott fan starting in 89, and 9 years later I became an even bigger fan. WCW was the best, no matter what WWE or it's brainwashed fans believe.
I agree toodarkmark! They beat WWE in ratings 84 weeks in a row! The reason WCW folded was cause Time Warner bought out TBS, TNT, etc from Ted Turner. Hence, Eric Bischoff also lost power so Nitro and Thunder got toned down making the product worse and thus causing a HUGE drop in ratings and finally the demise of WCW! = ' ( R.I.P WCW and thanks for those good years of it Eric!
Wow... I know Scott Steiner used to be about the same size as this in the old WWF, but this musta been like right when Scott Steiner got gigantic and died his hair.
The day after he changed his look. I'd say that this was the second biggest surprise heel turn in Wrestling history. Hogan's being number 1. Because it would have been different if him and his brother turned on WCW, but the fact that he did it by himself and turned on his brother made it totally different. Also, this would be the last time we ever saw the Steiner Brothers (aka the masters of the suplex) or Scotty Steiner ever again. I know they teamed up later, but it wasn't the same.
this was great you never knew what was gonna happen from week to week.....it was always in the back of ur head wondering who was next to join the nwo....great shit here
True that.. that was the thing about WCW.. you never knew who or what was gonna happen.. but oh well... I always like WWF more.. I hated the Color commentary on WCW.. except I loved boby the brain heenan
In their defense, every heel turn or swerve got a huge pop. Look at when Goldberg lost to Nash. I agree he should have been pushed, but not using the pop of the heel turn as evidence.
NWO was the best thing WCW had going but they did ruin it with too many members.

wcw should have seen how the heel turn had a huge pop. steiner should have gotten a big push instead of being part of the nwo b team for a year

In their defense, every heel turn or swerve got a huge pop. Look at when Goldberg lost to Nash. I agree he should have been pushed, but not using the pop of the heel turn as evidence.

1 set was the original tag belts from the early 90's, and the other was later on during its run on nitro when the nWo wanted their own set of belts.

Whey are there 2 sets of tag belts?
barbarash 2 years ago
After the Outsiders lost the belts, they created a fake pair to wear so they could say they were still champions.
