  • Omg - this is hilarious!

    Thanks for posting :)

(from a Protestant... who loves Catholics anyway :)

  • Here's a trivia question for everyone who's watched 'All in the Family'. Archie has strong positions on every religion and every race of people. What was Archie's Race & religion???

  • @Danuch113ny It's never said. I always picked up that he considered himself to be racially/ethnically "American" and had equal disdain for anybody with any racial/ethnic ties past "American"(hyphenated Americans, and the sort). His last name is German, though.

As for religion, he's implied to be a Protestant of some sort, but is never said what kind. He'd probably by a Presbyterian, Lutheran, or Episcopalian, one of the "mainstream" Protestant churches.

  • Who cares? it a damn tv show and this topic is meant for comic entertainment not a friggin debate

  • What's ironic was that the Bunkers were Episcopalian...

  • @PsychoPunk1965

What is ironic about that? Episcopalians are Protestants which are different from Catholics. Archie was afraid of his wife giving up being a Protestant and becoming a Catholic.

  • @Smartboy8877 Episcopalians/Anglicans are indeed Protestant, but they are also "Catholic" as well. I consider myself a broadly high church Anglo-Catholic. For me, I enjoy the blending of two great theological perspectives whereby I consider Anglicanism a "preserved catholicism." Good people can disagree. My best friend who is Roman Catholic tells me that she thinks Anglicanism and Roman Catholicism has nothing in common.

  • @PsychoPunk1965

Although I know that Episcopalianism, Anglicanism and Catholism are very similar, there is one thing about the situation that I do not understand. How can you be considered Catholic if you do not recognize the Pope.

  • @Smartboy8877 The Episcopal/Anglicanism is "catholic" just as Eastern Orthodoxy is "catholic." When the English Reformation took place, their situation was different from continental counterpart of the Protestant Reformation. They retained most aspects of "catholicism." The fact that they are not under the authority of the Pope is not relevant. They are still a "catholic church" through the creeds, (most) doctrinal matters, and liturgy. The difference is it is more liberal.

  • @PsychoPunk1965

    Very interesting indeed!

  • Go Archie (not Carrol) for Protestants!

  • WHat is the difference between christian and catholic? They both believe in the same fairy tales.

  • @Saebeck32 Archie doesn't know what he's talking about.

  • Anything making fun of the catholic cult is funny! :)

  • In these violent and turbulent times we live in now, would ALL IN THE FAMILY be more relevant than ever before? Even more relevent than in the 70s?

  • Catholic *IS* Christian, and Christian *IS* Catholic. You cannot separate the two.

  • I bet Archie would've something to say about Catholic priests moslesting children since the allegations came out ten years that were hushed up by the Catholic Church. Btw, I'm Catholic myself.

  • @67nairb You are 5x more likly to get molested in a Protestant church than in a Catholic Church. The reason the media pays more attention to the Catholic scandle is because it's conservative religon and primarily because we have a very clear hierarchy priest to bishop to cardinal to Pope. Protestants are their own pope.

  • @victrolajake Where did you hear that you would be 5x more likely to be molested by a Protestant clergyman than by Catholic one?

  • @67nairb The John Jay Gould College Study of 2004. There is on average a 3x higher rate of molestation in the Boy Scout/Girl Scout organizations then in the Church by the way. Ave Maria, Viva El Papa Benedicto!

  • @67nairb The reasons the media and Hollywood attack us are 1. We are Orthodox religion which opposes the intrinsic evils of gay marriage and contraception 2. We are the largest and fastest growing denomination, and have been for 2,000 years 3. We have an extremely obvious hierarchy to point fingers at which no other church has (Layman-Priest-Bishop-Cardinal-Pope).

  • @victrolajake Islam is the second largest religion in the world and maybe outdo Catholicism. That's something to worry about.

  • @67nairb It most definatly is something to worry about, but I pray and have confidence that the rapid conversion of Africans and Asian to the Faith will outdue the Muslims influence in Europe. Like I said 2000 years largest/fastest growing, we've educated an unmatched amount of people and founded the college system. Keep fighting for Holy Mother Church and hopefully praying your Hail Marys and Our Fathers every day.

  • @victrolajake The "mainstream" media is considered by some to be if not nakedly anti-Catholic.

  • @victrolajake Then why did Archie have such a dislike towards Catholics if he was so consevative and ant-gay?

  • @67nairb Archie was supposed to be the everyman-American. At the time Protestantism considered Catholicism to be loyal to Roman, and a secret society of foreigners. Things are different now, unfortunately, many Catholics don't know Church teaching and have grown tolerant of homosexuality/birth-control/divorce/capitol punishment/ect.

  • @victrolajake I'm Catholic and I believe in the capitol punishment-in certain cases.

  • @67nairb So do I, but Papa Benedicto has stressed the need for regulation. Surely you can understand the Church's desire to suppress capitol punishment when millions of Catholics/Christians around the world have been slaughtered by radical Islamic and Buddhist terrorists. My man Santorum has expressed his opposition to the death penalty when there are no witnesses or DNA evidence. It shouldn't be used when the evidence is questionable or if the motives could have been self defense.

  • @victrolajake I see your point.

  • What's ironic about Archie's anti-Catholicism is that one of his heroes was the conseversative columnist, publicist, tv host and author William F. Buckley Jr. who himslf was a devout Roman Catholic.

  • @67nairb Excellent observation. :-)

  • @frc1968 Thanks, Carrol O'Connor himself was a Roman Catholic.

  • @67nairb I doubt, though, he would have adhered to the conservative doctrines of the church considering how liberal he was. I'm an agnostic but I firmly believe the last good and decent pope was John XXIII. Just my opinion. :-) Thanks for commenting, participating and enjoying. It's refreshing to have people comment without vitriol on the snippets I post.

  • @frc1968 You're welcome. But I think John Paul II was the last great pope because of how he fought Communist tyrany, helped bring the Iron Curtain down in Eastern Europe and help topple the Soviet Union by the power of his voice and working closely with Ronald Reagan. This is one pope the prejediced Archie Bunker might've liked.

  • @67nairb Respectfully, as a homosexual, I must disagree with your assessment of JPII. He was probably the most anti-gay Pope in modern history. John XXIII was the last decent pope.

  • @frc1968 Then there you have it; the bigoted and anti-gay Archie Bunker would've agreed with Pope John Paul II's anti-gay policies with no disrespect to you my friend. Archie would've liked John Paul's anti-Communist stance inspite of the fact that the latter was Polish and you know how the former felt about Poles.

  • @frc1968 Incorrect, Pope Benedict XVI is definatly the most pro-marriage Supreme Pontiff.

  • @frc1968 You are so right, JPII didnt celebrate sodomy, he saw for what it is, disordered and unnatural, unfortunately the gay mafia has done a fantastic job of trying to prove it othewise

  • @Canisius19 a bj is unnatural? for heaven's sakes1

  • @67nairb

I think I remember reading about that. His family was Irish down the the core.

  • @67nairb Its TV idiot Archie isnt real

  • @nonconformest What is this in response to?

  • Correction: Protestant vs Catholic. Protestantism and Catholicism are both Christian beliefs.

  • @halfpintgamescast One might argue that Catholics and Protestants have a very different view of salvation. Catholics believe in justification via the sacraments (or faith in addition to works), Protestants believe in justification via faith alone. The question is, which view is truly Christian, or, biblical.

  • @elderaps As far as I can tell, a Christian is someone who believes in Jesus. You're right about the different views of religion though. The only differences though are that catholics are strict about sexual relationshps and marriage. I'm sure there are a few more differences like that Catholic churches are usually more decorative and that protestant churches can have female ministers but they both believe in Jesus. So this, to me means that effectively, both of these beliefs are Christian.

  • @halfpintgamescast What does it mean to "believe in Jesus?" Muslims believe in Jesus, but that certainly does not mean they are Chrsitians. -- Catholics and protestants have a very different idea about what that means. And, to say that the primary differences between Catholics and Protestants is simply their views on marriage and sexuality is simply naive - you only have to read the history of the Protestant Reformation to know the differences are much more significant.

  • Clue me in - here Archie is against Edith becoming Catholic, but in another episode, he sneaks Mike & Gloria's son into a church to get their newborn son baptised - no consistancy.

  • @evilunixuser1 Archie was opposed to Catholicism. He took his grandson Joey to be baptized at the Protestant church the Bunker's were members of. Archie wasn't against religion as long as it was Protestant only. Notice in his comments how he stated a difference between Catholic and "Christian" To Archie, Christian meant only Protestant.

  • @frc1968 Kink James version or roman catholic apocrypha is the difference do you know what this means.

  • @frc1968 Sorry i misspelled king james version, seriously though what is the difference i'd like to know more because i understand they both use these different bibles.

  • @pleasestop1000 The Catholic Bible has more books in it.

  • @frc1968 The"Catholic Bible" only includes the apocrapha which is some old Testament Books whish the protestants rejected. The Easten Orthodox ande Armenians also use the apocrapha. jesus did not quote the apoctapha and there is hardly any reference to it in the New Testament. THe Catholics use the same Gospels and Epistles as the Proestants.

  • but the catholic church is a horror show. I mean, if little children get anally and vaginally raped plus having nuns abuse children through harsh discipline? The sun has set on the catholic church.

  • @epiksonik The punishment with rulers is long gone in the U.S, in most states. And the molestation cases are rare and the people who commit the crime are not true Catholics. Most Christian denominations started from Catholicism, most notably the Protestant church.

  • @epiksonik Great! Stereotype much Archie?

  • @thegorn68

You're a defender of pedophilia, torture, and evil old men. Have a nice day.

  • @epiksonik And you're a manufacturer of ad hominem, fallacious reasoning and intellectual dishonesty. Have a shitty day you stupid fuck stick!

  • that's the guy who played dumont from Tron right?

  • "He's turned more Protestants into Catholics than you have" Ha!Ha! Love that line.

  • The Hail Mary prayer is not biblical. It's not in the Bible. It's not a prayer but a conversation. The Our Father however is in the Bible.

  • Vatican doctrine believes Jesus ONLY died for original sin and that only papal authority can forgive subsequent sins. Vatican also used simony, esp. during crusades. Also "relics", supposed body parts of saints to empower churches, buried under altars. Vatican believes in prayer to saints and to mary. Were it not for the Irish, probably we today would not know of Christianity in protestant forms or any other form. vatican isnt the same as the sincere seeker believer in Christ.

  • @MrBruceBarham Hello, Bruce. This is I, Ray Wallace. I was over at Knox tonight, taking a close-up look at Pilgrim's Progress. First time I went there you lead an edifying study of Romans Chapter 2.

  • Yes, Having an opinion, speaking your mind without being concerned about what others think first, is a bigot. I see. What about those who label others as bigots? What does it make them? I will not bother with the silly labels, as people deep down do not need to be told about their own self, they know the truth they hide.

  • I can't believe an All in the Family clip brings out religious twats bent on starting an argument....oh, wait....yes I can.

  • @trythinkingnow The whole show was about people arguing over religious, political and social issues.

  • I am Catholic myself and I don't see how people find any body no matter what religious views they have find messed up. The Jews in fact came before the Christians an then all if the Christian religions were called Christian and then people broke away from

The church and gave different names. Catholics are True Christians too and for anyone to call then messed up or sick, or dirt or anything awful then you area narrow minded bigot.

Please do not respond to my comment because I don't want to mak

  • @NeetNeetz1993 Archie WAS a bigot. Thus the clip of how narrow-minded he was. Btw, if you do not want people to respond to your posts then don't post. Then you won't have to worry about that. :-)

  • @frc1968 Archie was certainly a bigot and a hypocrite when it came to religion. But there are some relgious people or who claim to be religious wh are even worse hypocrites than Archie.

  • @NeetNeetz1993 Lighten up you idiot.. And learn to speak english.

  • @NeetNeetz1993 You are wrong!

Catholicism is not True Biblical Christianity.

There are many many things Catholics do that are not in the bible. here are some...

Believing baptism washes away sin, instead of Jesus Christ's sacrifice.

Calling a priest father instead of having one father, Father God.

Believing you get to heaven by being a good person and by good deeds, instead of by grace alone through faith in Jesus Christ his sacrifice.

Worshiping Mary and saints, not God & Jesus Christ ALONE!

    :)

  • @BrianChillz Awesome! Did you study about Catholicism from a Jack Chick comic book? LOL!

  • @thegorn68 yea me and everyone else here has no clue waht that means nor cares to google

  • @BrianChillz "me and everyone else..." You really should be more concerned about your atrocious grammar and spelling and how you plan to even fill out a future job application without completely embarrassing yourself more than worrying about commenting on YouTube videos. Seriously dude! Google that.

  • @NeetNeetz1993 Jews came before christian's? I learned that christianity was from the beginning and that cains offspring or jews stole the identity of christian's and wrote books declaring that they were Gods people brainwashing most, but were actually created in the garden of eden when eve took the fruit or sperma from the tree of knowledge of good and evil that was satan. Do you not understand the hebrew idiom in the original scriptures there, if you did you would know who Gods people are.

  • @pleasestop1000 Judaism is an older religion than Christianity just as Christianity is an older religion than Islam. All three stem from the Abrahamic tradition, however, and have much in common.

  • @pleasestop1000 Chrstians only began with the coming of Jesus CHRIST. Hence the title, CHRISTianity.

  • @pleasestop1000 The Nazis hated Chritianity because they thought of it a Jewish religion-which it was.

  • Religion sucks, no matter what denomination.

  • Archie is right. Catholics follow the government-sanctioned religion of Ancient Rome. It's Romanized Judaism. Luckily Martin Luther, John Calvin and John Knox set the world straight.

  • @TruthAxe correct

and peter never went to rome. paul went to rome

the early christians who based their faith were persecuted and tortured by the church of rome

this entire show is Jesuit propaganda at its best

the dumb american public who doesnt know real history is easily duped by shows like this

  • @TruthAxe Another one of Archie's admirers was Gen. Alexander Haig, Reagan's Secretary of State. I'm sure Archie had never heard of people John Calvin and John Knox.

  • @67nairb Haig was Roman Catholic.

  • Does the bible mention that peter ever went to rome ?

  • @fidfel1062 You tell us. Are you one of the rare brain washed imbeciles that read the whole book of fantasy.

  • wait a second....isn't the actor who plays the priest also dumont from tron?

  • @em23 Yes. Go to imdb and type in Bernard Hughes in the search box.

  • @frc1968 you forgot to tell him to press enter.

  • "The Reverend Fletcher? Felcher. Whatever!" I love it!!!

  • haha, archie's pastor is named "felcher"...

  • @RottingintheMidwest Not many pick up on that. Thanks for your comment. It made me laugh. :-)

  • @RottingintheMidwest Felcher can be a German name.

  • @mickdukes That may very well be true but I don't think the writers had that in mind when they picked that name. LOL......

  • @RottingintheMidwest fletcher

  • She sings like a hinge. LOL!

  • This is one of funniest scene and lines when Archie says, ...as if anybody cares what he rides around on!

  • Bad thing is...Archie is correct. Today's Catholicism is basically doing whatever the Pope says. Very different from Christianity.

  • @OfficialArmonist Todays Catholic Church is teaching the same thing they have since Christ Himself founded it 2,000 years ago. The Pope is the Vicar of Christ Himself. All the rest of the Christian denominations came from them...so historically....your mistaken!

  • @FPiccioli I don't recall the Jesus or the disciples telling followers to pray to the virgin Mary! " No man cometh unto the Father BUT BY ME" Why do Catholics pray to Mary. NO SCRIPTURE to back that up

  • @NoSteveNoPoint Thats because you are ignorant of what Catholics do...Catholics dont pray to Mary...we dont worship her like Jesus. Your just ignorant so you dont understand our beliefs. We do hail her as the Mother of God yes..JUST like the Angel HAILED Mary when he visited her. We also ASK her to pray for us to her Son...just like people ask their friends to pray. So when you learn what Catholics truly believe then maybe you canj talk about it.

  • @FPiccioli I LIVE with a Catholic and have heard her pray to Mary, so stop the lying Moron! And whats the deal with the BEADS! LOL Never seen that in scripture either

  • @NoSteveNoPoint

It is irrefutable knowledge that the Catholic Church does not teach, nor condone Worship of Mary, for Worship is only reserved for God. It is impossible for a Catholic to defend an attack that we don't believe in the first place. SO guess what...what you "hear" is not praying to Mary..simple.

As fot those "beads" hmmm well the prayers are all Biblical...so do you READ the Bible?? Youll recognize those prayers.

  • @FPiccioli I pray without BEADS, they are ritualistic nonsense, NO where in the bible is their a rosery

  • @NoSteveNoPoint ritual nonesense? The Bible is FULL of reptative prayer: -check out Daniel chapter 3, from v. 57 onwards: "Bless the Lord, praise and exalt Him above all for ever" is repeated, and repeated. .-in Psalms 136, "God's love endures forever" is repeated, and repeated. And repeated.-in Matt 20:31, Jesus grants the request of the blind men, who offer repetitive prayers for mercy. As for the Bible...right the word rosary is not there..neither is Trinity but u believe that

  • @FPiccioli Prayers are not RITUALS. I don't know WHAT you are talking about. Your comment has nothing to do with what I was speaking of. The ceremonies, candles, crowns, statues of ancient Saints, , ETC. THESE are rituals most often derived from PAGAN Roman and greek temples. ( do a little research) Maybe look up" John Ankerberg" and listen to his take on catholicism. OPEN YOUR MIND, and listen. He backs everything up he says.

  • @NoSteveNoPoint The prayers aof the Rosary are also Biblical..read the Bible more...The prayer begins, "Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee." This is nothing other than the greeting the angel Gabriel gave Mary in Luke 1:28. The next part reads this way: "Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus." This was exactly what Mary’s cousin Elizabeth said to her in Luke 1:42. So the first part of the Hail Mary is entirely biblical.

  • @FPiccioli There were NO beads mentioned in that scripture!!!!!

  • @NoSteveNoPoint Good question i was raised catholic i have no idea

  • @NoSteveNoPoint ...Guess what the person you live with is NOT praying or worshipping Mary.... in fact it is against the teachings of the Catholic faith, and has never been taught. Mary worship is what is called a "straw man fallacy", a known lie created by anti-Catholics to produce an unarguable attack against ignorant Catholics.

  • @FPiccioli Yes. They are all watered down Catholicism..

  • Zarchie is great, makes bigots look so stupid
