  • This is not by Bach. This is based on the Passacaglia and Fugue of Bach, but much shorter, and scored for orchestra. (The original is for organ.) The composer here is Michel Colombier, who wrote orchestral scores for several movies.

Nor is it dark, as some suggest.

Colombier's orchestration seems somewhat similar to an earlier orchestration by Ottorino Respighi.

  • Interesting too, how they use the camera work in conjunction with the dancing, the closups, the cuts, the camera movements, the pov.........

  • This version of the song is... messed up. They jumbled up all the cycles of the ostinato.

  • I am splendid, but think that it is misunderstanding. The interpretation until a climax is correct, but I surely think that the later hopeful development can open in the original music.

    The suicide already stops・・・

    which my acquaintance has done!

  • Great! I opened accidentally on the same day one year after just at.

  • Oh man, I love that music...it is my favorite piece by J.S. Bach ever!

  • Yes!! This music is so dark and wonderful. SOme of Bach's best work.

  • Years ago I saw this in the movie, White Nights and the image of it has haunted me over the years. What a treasure to find it again on YouTube. Thank you.

  • Thank you so much for posting this amazing clip! I love this movie, and this opening for it.
