  • such a great video !!!! keep em coming

  • good stuff !

  • I spent so much of my life as a spector and racer at York and other near by tracks it brings back so many good memories.

    Larry R.

  • its an air field now

  • I LOVE Dyno Don's Maverick, 2:26 is one of the best sounds I've heard in my life

  • aww man how cool wold that be to see linda vaughn back in the hay day of dragracing and those old funnys cars damn man i wish i grew up in the seventys

  • It's kinda sad that modern drag racing has become hi tech with cookie cutter race cars. They are ungodly fast but BUT they just don't have any soul.

  • @moluvsage Thankfully, these drag cars are still around today! They are still being raced, though perhaps not in NHRA competition. There are many which, amazingly are now street legal, too! The only problem is that they have lost their popularity at the drag-strip to smaller funny cars and gassers powered by Mazda Wankel rotary engines. This kind of drag racing still exists, except that rotary engines are now the staple for competition today.

  • Very interesting old footage!!!

    Thanks for sharing!

  • Awesome!!!! That was "back in the day" when you actually had to know how to drive a racecar.

  • @sizzlehalt Not just awesome, but it still exists today! Only that smaller cars with Wankel rotary engines are now the trend to follow for this kind of racing.

  • York U.S. 30 was cool!!! Sometimes they had to stop the racing, just to let a small plane land..It actually was an airport and the strip was the runway!! Sometimes, due to parachute or other failure, the cars would go past the end of the "strip" and go across U.S. 30 and into a cornfield!!! Oh..those were the days!!!

  • @valleycruiser This kind of racing still remains active in Puerto Rico, though Wankel rotary engines in smaller cars rebuilt into dragsters are now the reigning trend.

  • very very cool

  • Great video...Those really were the "Good old days"....

  • i love he vid

  • Who drive the red Ford Maverick on video? I'm from Brazil and I have a Ford Maverick V8, seeing this video i feel the power of a V8!!!

Excuse me, I will drive my car now....

  • @signaloflight The Red car belonged to Dyno Don Nicholson and had a 427 SOHC motor...nice car of yours btw ;)

  • I watched these cars run. Man that Mavrick is wicked.

  • What an awesome era. No electronics, no stupid throttle stops, no stupid ET limits, just raw, balls-to-the-wall drag racing. I'm a Mopar guy, so of course I love the Hemis, but hearing Dyno Don powershifting his SOHC 427 Maverick is awesome. At least the cars still looked like cars, too. PS still had door handles, and funnies looked a lot like their street brethren. Today they look like used bars of soap and doorstops.

BTW, the Hurst/Olds Linda Vaughn is riding on is a 69, not a 72.

  • What was the song used in the WSBA ads for the funny car races? I've been trying to find it but no luck.

  • What is the name of the song they used for the music bed for the ad that ran on WSBA? I think it's by Sam Butera but I can't find it. Thanks.

  • i wish i had a time machine

  • WOW remember when... the tow vehicle went behind the dragster

  • This is some old ass footage!

    Thanks for saving and sharing!!!!

    The good old days!

  • priceless

  • where the hell can i get a York US 30 t-shirt...i was there back in those days...if anyone can help...thanks

  • i'm a 17 year old going on 18 next week but i feel like i should have lived through this era. where people where like Gas mileage who gives a crap. Just give me a fat ass V8 that can burn the tires out in less than a min... damn wish i grew up back then...

    Joseph Alan Krupinski Twiggy II

  • RARE footage of the GARLITS funny car

  • I used to work at York US30 from 70 till about 76/77. It was the time of my life!!I would give up my remaining 30 years just to repeat those 7!

  • i was at that track in 1977 twice...saw linda vaughn there at a race

  • I wondered if that was her in the film, the original Pam Anderson, and all natural too!

  • gapp and rousch had a 4 door maveric also

  • the good old days

  • that was when you rowed a four speed crash box in pro stock. Lencos weren't around. Nice post. If I remember right, Nicholson went to a four door maverick for wheelbase "interpreting" rule book.

  • I love how you see "Dyno Don" 's car arriving on a trailer like that. It's like he's a guy who built a car in his parent's garage!

  • Back then you read the rule book and built a car according to how "creative" you interpreted rules. You were legal till you were caught. Modified and Pro classes were great, but super stock, stock, and pure stock racers were all artists and outlaws at their craft, pushing the rules for that extra tenth or hundredth over their competition. Racers from that era through hard work and determination laid the foundation for what is today's racing.

  • Freakin' beautiful! Drag racing seemed alot meaner back then!

  • flipping great - back when racing was balls to the wall - PIONEERS

  • Did anyoone ever hear of David Strouse ( Forever in Dept, he use to race his Henry J? I have to say back in the 70's, the car was green.

  • Great video! nice work.

  • 1:32 a maverick!!!

  • Yeah, and it's powered by the famous 427 SOHC engine!

  • Amazing footage, nice post.

  • I use to race at that track in the 70's!

  • b&m got it funny because hurst product used to be no.1 top notch not that b&m got them they will of gone to shit.

  • Love it!! Use to race a York US30 during the 70's! What a great track.

  • Great old video!

  • I think I saw a young Rich Christianson at the beginning of the clip.

  • Hey I talked to Linda Vaughn this summer at Beaversprings raceway she was there for the york us 30 reunion. She still looks plenty good and goin stong. She was sad about Hurst beimg sold to some chinese outfit. Thats a shame.

  • I saw her car auctioned. She was crying. I didnt know that a Chineese company got it...

  • wild footage, thanks for posting...
