I know people are probably going to attack me for this but I like Mike the best. It's a close one though between Joel and Mike since they are unique in their own ways. Joel created the show, had the invention exchange, read fan mail. Joel was like a father figure the robots. Mike on the other hand had better riffs and the ways he was tormented by Crow and Tom Servo were hilarious. There are some great Joel episodes but Mike wins since his episodes left a more lasting impression

Josh (the fat guy with black hair) appeared on the KTMA version, which really isn't considered season 1 since it was local programming. TV's Frank was the official mad sidekick for the cable show's season 1

Later on, it got explained that Joel got sent into space aboard the ship by an evil scientist who wanted to rule the world by using mind-control, so he used Joel as a guinea-pig to see what and how many bad movies would make him go insane. :)

Nope, season 0 were the KTMA episodes. The 1st season on comdey central still had the abysmal Larry teamed Dr. Forester as well as being the voice of Tom Servo. Just search for "mst3k 101" that'll bring up the crawling eye, that was the 1st episode on CC. That was the 1st season theme song.

Has anyone notcied that if a show runs for quite a while, the titles often get much better then the orignal version?

I like this version, but it just seems a bit...Slow, nevertheless...It's still great, I remember when I watched this show as a child and would always say along with the singers "ROBOT ROLL CALL"

Well it was legal issues. Joel left because he and somebody were arguing over the right. Not wanting to risk a cancel he left and put Mike in. The show had many legal issues about ownership rights or something so then the douchebags and charge cancelled it.

RifTrax is still going strong. I think "Twilight" is their most recent riff. The only way to make that movie even slightly watchable I feel I should add. And Cinematic Titanic is somewhat obscure still. I only ran across them by accident. In this realm they go back to their bad movie roots. And its everyone except Mike Nelson(Whose doing RiffTrax) in the cast. They mainly do live shows with DVDs coming out every couple months or so. Theirs only 7 out right now.

This show SUCKED after Joel left. It got so bad I stopped watching because I couldn't stand listening to Mike Nelson try to be as funny or interesting like Joel was. Trace (Dr. Forrester), I believe, ended up writing for America's Funniest Home Videos, whatever that means.

How do you figure that? Wasn't Mike also the head writer of the show for it's entire run? I agree that it did change -- I missed the gizmo competition at the beginning of each episode. (btw -- apparently Joel held the rights to the name "Gizmonic Institute", so when he left all references were dropped.)

I thought it was fine, UNTIL they revived it and sent the SOL into the future with Pearl Forrester et al.

Even so, it has to be one of the most original shows in a VERY long time.

I don't know about rights issues. But Joel was a prop comic way back in the K season days. And the invention exchange type creations where what his act was mainly about. So I wouldn't be surprised if he was the only one who came up with most of them.
