I worked on a restoration, on one of his designs in Dallas Texas. the whole project was a eye opener to me. his use of Brass, Copper, Steel and Wood in linear lines made it a tough one. so much so they had to hire Texas Rangers to protect the stuff while it was being restored. it was simple and functional in his design.
Do you draw and sketch much when becoming an architect? Your drawing is very good, but did you learn it by your self or in... like a class or something???:)
If you read about Fallingwater you will learn that the cantilever was designed to have only 6 rebars in thepoured concrete. The Contractor thought it was way under engineered. He put in 12 rebar. Wright was furious when he found out and insisted that the cantilever be torn up and poured again. It wasn't. In 2004 the State rehabbed the house, they cut open the concrete and found 5 of the rebars had snapped in two. Had Wright had his way it would have dropped into the creek years ago.
It is indeed a beautiful house from Wright. But Philippe Johnson was a great architect to. Even at his old age he kept working and made beautiful buildings.
your a total idiot , You need to go find homes with the similar sf built in 1936 and tell me that that home is dark ,its a great home Ive been their and its even more impressive . Its has better lighting and is more open than 80% of the homes built today
Frank Lloyd Wright's architecture achieves such a beautiful synthesis with nature, i.e. light, landscape, etc.
Thanks for posting this, I really enjoyed it, and I learned some things I didn't know about Falling Water and the problems 'Wright had with structural integrity with the cantilevers. Interesting.
i've seen his work here in wisconsin. i love his work......i love the catalevers......i saw 3 of his buildings in the same trip........check out house on the rock......its a resort that you can go inside and explore...very interesting.......with the famous "skywalk" room.....which overviews the woodlands.
@fngrsk8r105 The House On The Rock does have a Wrightian atmosphere to it, and it's just down the road from 'Taliesin', Wright's home near Spring Green, but Wright didn't design House On The Rock. Alex Jordan designed and built the "house" at House On the Rock in the 1940's.
my favorite architecht!!!!!
