Now that my currently dialup speed internet has let me watch the whole thing, I think you are both clearly practicers of sabre, particularly the black one, who used strictly sabre techniques even when using the dao, which is not really the best way to fight using one.

Well spotted... I fenced for 10 years... so some Sabre experience :-)

I never fight with a Dao... so had no idea what works, and the balance is VERY different to the Sabre.

@gregbreinholt Basically, use mostly diagonal slashes, and try to get up close where your opponent has less room to swing and lunge. If you're more used to sabre or epée technique, I would suggest a jian instead.

Well, generally, dao broadswords are longer than that, but anyway...

The black one was definitely better. The white guy seemed like he hadn't really done much training, and if he had, it would be fencing or something, because he seems to be using the dao like a sabre, same as the black guy. Also, his movements were wasteful, spinning it in his hand to much, while the rest of his body didn't really do anything useful, and he needs to work on footwork.

I am doing fencing now and it's great fun!

wery nice, could you do please a video on european saber vs bastard sword or two hand sword ? Sincu je have the swords that have the same weight as real once do you think thats posible to block sword with the saber ?

And by the way I have noticed that both of you get most hits when you try to run back in order not to get hit. Try to block it instead.

The Dao is an RSW sword, with metal core, and padded to prevent damage.

oh thx. i saw it on the internet somewhere and thought it was all foam. would you recommend it over a wooden sparring sword?

Definitely. They have the weight and balance of a "real" sword, but without having to wear full amour.

And they have swords to match most styles...
