  • not so smart now hahahahaha

  • for a diesel that is really impressive actually. how long did you let the engine warm up before driving? because if you drive while it is still cold, it will wreck your engine sooner or later because of the heat that cannot be distributed

  • op op o p op. bude bude bude bude bude..... brmmmmmmmmm m m m brmmmmmm.. tk tk tk tk..

  • 4 times glow plug warming cycle? lol

  • -29 with diesel wow...

  • Bravo! but the wonder is that the engine of the smart still alive. When heating glow plugs a few times, you have to wait a few seconds between heating - otherwise they burn. This does not stay so long for a starter. If the engine does not start, then wait and try again. It's better to shoot a few times shortly starter than one time but long spin the starter.

  • HA so ein MÜLL gehört SOFORT EINGEPRESST

  • Now thats what I like to see! An actual engine struggling to start. love the sound of the first ignites.

  • I like that speedo and lights

  • kosiarką to ja nigdy w zimie nie jeździłem :(

  • -29C HOLY MOTHER OF FUCK!!!!!!!!!! fuck that SHIT! I'd stay here in THE CARIBBEAN where its fuckin PERFECT! thank you very fuckin much.

  • -29° ?

    Mother of God

  • @Martineli32 -29C, is it very cold? lol two days ago was -60C in Yakutsk, Russia

  • @nikita919 In russia, cold is warm

  • @Lycosaa Where have you read it? :)

  • @Lycosaa LOL

  • Jesus

  • Yikes!! Looks like I'll be waiting a few months before I go visit Siberia now :P

  • Sounds like my lawn mower

  • I think my Suzuki Samurai would start right away. :)

  • @ch1ld0fbodom Try it. -30*C without any heater

  • @Tidermans How long does the car battery last in these conditions? They are probably dead after one winter no? And I assume my Samurai would start. :)

  • @ch1ld0fbodom Not sure how long they would last but you would definitely want them in a good condition and charged if you were to store them or not drive in a couple of days... Your Samurai would most probably start (sooner or later anyway) but I've heard -30 degrees is pretty tough on your car :p

  • @Tidermans It's been in bad conditions since I drive it off road. Sometimes it's just a wonder it starts in a mud pit for example. :D But it would be tough indead. :)

  • How is the handling of the Smart in those icy conditions? It seems to me that the very short wheelbase should make it quite tricky to handle.

  • -29°C where do you live men^^

  • Those 3 cylinder Diesels sounding funny. :-)

  • Starts like a helicopter

  • just watching that video made me claustrophobic haha

  • łoooo ale chujowo...

  • please write the name of the song that were playing at the end of the video??

  • @ecip :)))) I don't know

well, Shazam app guessed it as "Dead And Gone" T.I. feat. Justin Timberlake

  • @njgjhrjd Thank you very much.. :)

  • @ecip The names dead and gone i think

  • @ecip that was justin timberlake dead and gone

  • name of the last song ???

  • @Italos1985 "Dead And Gone" T.I. feat. Justin Timberlake

  • @njgjhrjd Thanks!!!

  • what a dream to drive a rear-engine rear wheel driven car that weighs nothing during harsh winters :P though a good choice for drifting. And respect for managing to start the engine!

  • fuck yeah i love me some -30c weather, lets you know you know your alive by threatening to literally kill you

  • Hey I did not expect the smart starting so good at so low temperatures.

    happy cranking comming winter :D

  • -29 C shit !

  • too bad for that small engine...i love petrol cars...espec.for winter usage

  • 2:15 for the crash

  • 1:10 start of engine

  • sounds like a tractor ^^

Because it is a disel engine)

  • @PahanZol yes but not every diesel engine sounds like a tractor :p

  • @mrpwnhable =D

  • do Russians make their own cars?

  • I'm 38 and live in the UK. We had -10c for a few days last winter but that's the coldest I've ever seen here.

  • @GuyRWood I'm in Canada. Coldest I've ever seen is -46c. My car still started. It didn't sound good, but it started.

  • pqp -29 é foda

  • wow, nice and what a breathe at the end :)

  • la pauvre...

  • wait a sec OUR cars look just like that over here BUT ours are gas WHY????

  • It hovered around -38C this year for a couple weeks in Northern Ontario, Canada... My '04 Jetta Diesel (no block heater) complained a little, but started okay like yours after cycling the glow plugs 3 times usually. Of course you let it idle for a good 15min before driving off! Diesel rocks.

  • @shmackahippie

why do you need to idle it? and does that go for gasoline cars also?

  • @fluffyman15 You need to idle it so that the engine oil is properly heated, along with the cylinder chamber.Gasoline cars also require a bit of heating up,but i wouldn't say as much as diesel cars

  • @MDIVISIONRULES

cant you slowly drive away just after the start if you shift always early untill everything is heated up? or is idling really necessary at this extreme temperatures?

  • @fluffyman15 You can start driving slowly and mildly in a petrol car,but a diesel car should be idled for a little bit

  • @MDIVISIONRULES

ok, thanks for the info! :)

  • I didn't know smart came in diesel, as well as gasoline .

  • poor smart

  • lol its called a CDI. mah boy this car starting is what all true drivers strive for.

  • impressive

  • not so smart to drive a smart in the snow

  • unnecessarily to press the gas on any smart when engine starting... :)

  • oha -29°c

  • u call it "cranks pretty good"?. check out my '83 audi 80 B2 startup at -10celsius.

  • @MATUXAZ dude.. that's -29C.. That's a bit different

  • @AlieNyou yo right. screw me... sorry

  • oh is that a choice you can get the diesel version of that car?? or agsoline

  • bardzo ladnie :)

  • now that s a pretty damn winter, not like here, with -2 C at night

  • that the problem with diesils. in cold weather you can not get them to start

  • I recently started my little Smartie in -11C here in the United Kingdom.

Diesels have larger batteries and are usually more reliable than petrol due to the very high compression on a diesel engine and not needing any ignition leads, spark plugs etc.

It coped perfectly well with -11C and it was parked out all night as well.

  • Mia fasznak izzítasz 4-szer?

  • russian smart power^^

  • not half bad

  • Do you actually get cabin heat when the temp is that cold? my 1.9 tdi has trouble heating up when the temp gets below 0. this engine is even smaller, do you block the radiator or is there something else you do in russia becuase its so cold? Cool vid

  • good car!!!

  • Even the dash lcd was working slowly!

  • wait till it hits -40 ;-) it gets guite cold here in finland as well, but not as cold as over there. rarely do we hit -30, not every winter. i live in the south-west though, not in the north. but if we ever hit -40, i don't think anything works.

  • making the pre-warm 4 times...that car is very bad...

i have a 16 years renault clio 1900cc diesel with 310000km in andorra and with very cold winter only needs to pre-warm 2 times and dont make all the noise that make that toy....

  • @dmadureira We have a Mercedes diesel. Has never needed more than 1 glow plug cycle, even when it's -40 outside.

  • Damn, what a pain to start this car. I assume it works better when you plug it in? How far do you have to drive before it's fully warmed up?

  • Comment removed

  • wow

  • Good old Smartie for not letting your owner down when its cold enough to freeze diesel fuel.

  • JEEZ, what a rackeling sound. Why the hell did you buy that diesel shit when you live in such a cold area, a gas engine starts WAY better.

  • Hi, did you use any additives for the gasoline? Very very good!

  • god that took forever hahah stupid little car

  • @TheIggyman214 -29*c.

  • Liqui Moly good product....

  • good car!!!!

  • i hate those little cars

  • ecco perche amo mercedes benz....io ho la smartina cdi cn 89.000 km di tranquillità

  • see, i thought the smart cars had only electric, so i was wondering if it started all those times, lol

  • They're gasoline powered in the US. I wish they had diesels available.

  • @mossandthesea

Here in the Uk we had to wait ten years for Mercedes to decide to introduce the lovely little 799cc monster into our country in right hand drive form.

I love my little CDi to bits.

    His name is BOBBY

  • THAT is incredible!!

Question for you... how'd you get it to crank for so long? On my smart cdi, it only tries for about 10 seconds before giving up. Are you holding the key or is there some other trick?

I have lots of hard starts, but only in -15 C to -20 C (Canada)... this is just amazing!

  • Do you usually cycle the glow plugs that many times and find that it helps? That's damn cold! WOW!!!

  • No, usually 2 times only. That definitely helps to warm up the air in cylinders and everything around. Plus, glow plugs are 80Amp, which helps to "wake up" the battery -> cranks a lot faster. Same if you switch on your high beam lights for ~30 sec.

  • Good to know.... thanks

  • MYTH!!! Drawing current from a battery doesn't 'wake it up' as you state, you just draw and waste power that could have otherwise been used for cranking. Google up on battery myths, this is one of them. What you need in your case is a battery with a higher CCA and temperature rating, and thinner oil.

  • @njgjhrjd

All you've done is drain the battery which in turn makes the engine crank slower. Two glows at most, save the battery to turn the engine over at the needed rpm.

  • @njgjhrjd no effence but those kind of cars can kill you if your ina car reck

  • zenada tyle razy grzac swiece stary fiat tempra 1.9td przy -31 na raz a to gówno strasznie fajnie

  • @njgjhrjd previet!!

  • @nazarion445 wypierdalaj rosjaninie !

  • Good start up :). Those gauge clusters are great. All they need is a Tach in the middle and they would be perfect! :D

    -pistonring101

  • But what is that cracky sound during starting?

  • I think that is the operator who snap the fuel pedal even if it's useless. So... it's maybe wrong but... it's look like!

  • Rubber mats :)

  • Good start!

  • Start up pretty well! What's the yellow light for above the glow plug light? It lit only the first time you turned the key.

  • The yellow light is a diesel-only heater booster. It's turned on by moving the temperature slider all the way untill it clicks to the right. But... it doesn't help much :)

  • Very impressive!! Better than mine!! Do you need to used the engine block heater or not?? So, who's the next??? -32°c!! Hahha! Good video! ;)

  • Thanks! :) No, i didn't use the block heater. I'm only planning to get one, or if I'm lucky - Webasto to heat up the whole thing.

  • Dont buy the original block heater. It heat the outside more than the engine block. If you can, a Webasto or espar are very much better!! Can I know the make and grade of engine oil you used?? Thanks!

  • Mobil-1 synthetic 0W-40 (MB 229.5). I will get Webasto as soon as I can afford it ;)

  • Great choice! I use 0W40 Mobile-1 too in my smart 450. And I hope to get a webasto or Espar as soon as I can find a used one. So, tanks for answer! ;)
