'I cant believe that JA didnt become a megastar but I guess she doesnt look the prissy hollywood fake that the others are.'
This is because lesbian artists are not as accepted or promoted as they are now...She also is not conventionally pretty, has a deep voice, so there you go...However, she always had a record deal, fans and made money.
This blows away the studio version. The 80s really ruined some solid tunes. Too many layers of synthesizers and electronic drum sounds drowned out the strong melody and Joan's voice. Love this acoustic stuff
As a youth I attended a show that she gave during one of the Notting Hill Street Carnivals in the '70's. Her music made a profound impact upon me. Her portrayal of almost all the types of relationship that she obviously had lived through has helped me throughout my life. Now I thank all you guys who are allowing me to relive those emotions and to introduce my family in Brazil to her wisdom and almost unknown pure talent. Rihanna was never the first to portray this sort of macho dominance.
joan's the key lp is one of my all time favorite albums, i was lucky enought to see her live while she was promoting it. as songwriting goes, joan armatrading is an immense talent. thanks for posting.
Depuis des années, j'écoute Joan sans jamais la voir sur son vrai visage. Aujourd'hui; je peux la voir via ses vidéos. C"est une très belle femme et j'aimerai la ressembler musicalement. QUELLE FEMME SUBLIME; jE SUIS COMBLEE. BIGS KISSES FOR SHE.
@Westyrulz Can you imagine todays little dollies actually playing an instrument and writing and playing their own songs - and keeping their private lives private?? Joan does!! I think shes the greatest...
@Janicedean I could'nt agree more. She comes across as a truly modest person but then again when you have Joans talent you don't need the BS!!Yes I too think she is the greatest...
I saw her with her electric, prog.-rock band at about this time. Touring the 'Sleight of Hand' album at Red Rocks amphitheater, Colo. I was tripping on mushrooms. I'd like to find when that concert was. Maybe Red Rock's site has
The guitar lick at 1:49 was killin'! Joan Armatrading is a confessed "introvert", so this song was triggered by something she witnessed or possibly happened to her. She's not condoning what the lyrics are saying. In fact, I'm sure she thinks domestic abuse is horrible, which is why she wrote this "witty, little, ditty" to speak out against it :-)

She blows my mind. I love how outrageous and controversial the lyrics are, too. I just saw her last Spring, and she blew the roof off!

A real musician.Could you imagine many of todays pop stars standing up on the stage with just a guitar and no back up singing a song.I think not!!
Westyrulz 3 years ago 22
No because many of today's pop singers are nothing more than talentless pretty faces. Seems to be what sells. Real musician are not in demand.
