@Robwbower While CC has made some faulty esc's, this magic smoke was definitely let our due to driver abuse. It smoked not because of over heating, but because of blunt force trauma.

@Bmr4life um, its a ESC meant for a huge 4wd MT. dont you think the stinkin case should be made for such an application? the case looks too thin. yes, it took a hard hit. but you should be able to drive the flux like that without worrying about the ESC case cracking.

yup my flux went up in flames 3 times.the castle esc is junk.hpi will warrenty the first one but after that it will cost u 180 to replace.i got rid of mine but u can use a hobbywing esc they seem to work better

the battery is ok, i took some maxamp 14 10,000mah batteries to an electrical outlet in the town i live at to have them rebuild and i paid 600 for both batteries and had both rebuild for 80 a piece after a fire in my converted brushless baja 5b, they were melted and everything i threw them away and then dug them out after talking with my father on the phone he told me they could be rebuilt, good luck with that

I guess in my opinion if I was going to buy a $600-$700 RC car I wouldn't jump it like that. I would jump it at the track or skate park with no rocks around where there are landing zones.

I had an mtroniks catch fire and now have an ez run monster truck esc in my traxxas emaxx working well so far very cheap brushless speed controller but i have a decent motor from fine design and am happy with it .

What happened is that the rear shock tower hit the rock and the bolt that holds the shock on slammed into the controller.

Fuel tanks get punctured in the same way on nitro savages.

I suggest you turn the bolt around so that the head is pointing to the controller.

3. Did you check your tempatures at regular intervals?

Maybe you weren't paying attention. The truck flew through the air and hit a rock which smashed the ESC and caused the fire. Somehow I doubt other gearing or using your favorite batteries would have made a difference. But I DO know that the temperature of the fire was hot enough to melt solder!
