@MrSchnuffelB David Yost(billy) was being harassed and questioned on set because of his sexuality so most likely(though i'm not sure) the producers probablly didnt want a "gay" power ranger so they came up with the BS plot that because he asorbed to much radiation he couldn't no longer be a ranger but he was to popular a character to just throw away, so they made him a background character. To explain a few things that I read in the comments...

1. Tommy had to become the leader, because Jason's actor (along with Trini's and Zack's) wanted more money because apparently they weren't getting paid much, despite the show's massive success.

2. I saw a video of Tommy's actor explaining that you could tell which was the American footage with him in the suit and which was the Japanese because of the difference in quality of the green ranger's armor. As a kid, I couldn't tell the diff...

Saban ran out of green ranger footage to show so they pushed him a side till they took the white ranger from the sequel show, DaiRanger.

So they took the zords from DaiRanger but left the suits. It wasn't until after it changed to Zeo Rangers that Saban realized that no one cared if the suits were changed as long as it was Power Rangers.

Tommy was a Team Player, but when he became the White Ranger, not only did he become the Leader of the Power Rangers, but he also lead by example and he certainly was, a TRUE Leader and a Team Player, Tommy made the show about the team, not about himself and that's why he's my favorite and he's a TRUE Power Rangers Legend
