  • I'm always amazed at how the cute teen surf pop progressed to this album. I mean WTF?! Where did this come from? They went from bubblegum to high art. The complexity of some of the arrangements are almost at a classical level.

  • This is Sean lennon's fave love song.

  • i heard those strings when he sings that line were supposed to mimic a heartbeat

  • omg. best song.

  • fuck off keurig coffee commercials, i wanna listen to pet sounds and make my own coffee which tastes better for a tenth of the price

  • nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo :**(

  • great production as allways ..wall of sound!!!!.

  • 7 people don't have shoulders

  • @saxengee2 Hahhahaha!

  • One of the greatest albums of all time....

  • #NowPlaying 懐かしい日々、牧神禽獣ともにある…

  • I have to admit Im kinda new to the beach boys as far as giving their music a real listen (although of course I knew who they for many years).

My idea of this band was unfortunately what a lot of the general publics probably is, a "nostalgia act" who toured on their surfer hits from the glory days of the early 60's.

learning a bit about the bands true history my admiration for them is growing a ton. PET SOUNDS is a stuning work of musical art, and this song is beautiful in a haunting way.

  • The best quality version of this song is here: watch?v=vZTGZwAe2mY

Thumbs up so people can see and listen to this song the way Brian wanted!

  • Hauntingly beatiful!

  • Very beautiful with strings and all.

  • It's what's under the vocals that define Brian Wilson, listen to the Bass line that's the secret, man he is gifted.

  • The Bealtes, Paul McCartney in particular have made it known Pet Sounds changed the way they did music forever

  • The strings swelling under Brian singing "listen, listen, listen....". If that's not magic, I don't know what is.

  • @OldUnkieAl the subtle verse-binding melody at 0:52 is magic my friend.

  • @OldUnkieAl Friendship is magic.

  • @EpifanoEntertainment go and stick your stones up your ass. this is pure perfection.

  • @EpifanoEntertainment I can't help but wonder... what do you think is the best album ever then?

  • @lefthandedandproud mmh something like Led Zeppelin IV or Bold as Love

  • @EpifanoEntertainment lol you fucking idiot. I don't even listen to the Beach Boys all that often and I can still agree that this album is a work of genius. Grow up and appreciate real music.

  • Comment removed

  • @EpifanoEntertainment I don't know how old you are, but this album was way before my time. I think it's sometimes hard for younger people to appreciate the importance of music like this and The Beatles etc. We have never known a world without rock n roll. Although I did disagree with some of the albums Rolling Stone chose (TLC and Madonna come to mind!), you have to understand this Beach Boys record changed music with sound effects and layered harmonies, like Nirvana changed it in the '90s.

  • im 8-years-old and i love the beach boys!

  • @JuxtaposeMystery Who cares if you're 8? It's why we've all listened to it too.

  • I miss the beautiful harmonies of Quartets. Where have they all gone? Music today just doesn't compare to the old days!

  • sad this version wasn't a hit

  • Don't hurt yourself please. This song couldn't be less about being lonely to me. I will be your friend. I love you for loving this song, if you do...

  • Don't hurt yourself please. This song couldn't be less about being lonely to me. I will be your friend. I love you for loving this song, if you do...

  • Ulgh, this song makes me truly cognizant of how lonely I am. Excuse me as I go cut myself

    /wrist

  • @mobius1aic Don't do that man, things will only get better!

  • @amberlover678 Faggots (not meant as a slur towards gays, just idiots in general) cut themselves.

    Boy do I feel empty.

  • @mobius1aic

Suck it up man... you'll never grab yourself a girl with that attitude.

  • @mobius1aic I guess if I say CRACKER it doesnt mean white people? Its funny how people try to excuse their inner hatred by masking it.

  • @sheilaboy44 Crackers are delicious squares of thin and crispy biscuits.

  • Comment removed

  • @mobius1aic Ya whatever, not getting enough attention?

  • Man........ I love this song.

  • fuck grizzly bear, anyone who agrees with that farcical comment that grizzly bear is a "modern version" of the beach boys is clearly 17 and hasn't been around long enough to realize that is such a stupid comment that only fellow 17 years olds would agree with. first off, no one is like the beach boys, not even the beatles. and second, there is no "modern version" of 60's music. this is about as modern as pop music gets and any imitation can only be classified by their decade preceding "version"

  • I'm 97 years old and I think this is rubbish

  • @KingSandwell yeah i checked your profile and your 19 you dumbass

  • @Jake29112 haha you are the dumbass for not realising that I was being sarcastic and trying to make a point. wheeeeeeeeeeeyyyyy. and plz don't stalk me like that.

  • @KingSandwell what point could you possibly be making? and i looked at your profile, thats what people do, calm down

  • @KingSandwell Perhaps you'd prefer the Peerless Quartet, then? Or maybe Billy Murray and Ada Jones?

  • Listen, listen , listen............

  • waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than Paul Anka The Beach boys Rule

  • ONE OF THE BEST ROCK N ROLL ALBUMS EVER! History Books...... Listen to my heart...... when I first heard this album...Tears came to my eyes ♥

  • @varonil00 how could yu not lilke this?

  • @elvispresley718 I love them beach boys... they take me away....

  • who else is 17 and is in love with this?

  • @SouthernPoint52 19 and in love with this. I see you're reppin' Grizzly Bear! Nice!

  • @uncccut23 yep! Grizzly Bear's kinda like a modern version of this band!

  • @SouthernPoint52 what you kids want a fuckin cookie or something?

  • @SouthernPoint52 Animal Collective also likes the Brian Wilson sound.

  • @SouthernPoint52 I agree, but rather than modern version, I'd say they are just heavily influenced by them.

  • @SouthernPoint52 fifteen and lovin' this for over a year:)

  • @SouthernPoint52 age and what you listen to really doesn't mean anything.

  • <3 pet shop sounds

  • Awesome, absolutley one of the most beautiful songs I've heard.

  • I kept waiting for something... like a crescendo and a climax.... but...

  • I love the little "dun, dun dun dun." in the background at 0:52

  • congratulations for 45 years!

  • Highest quality of this song is here: /watch?v=vZTGZwAe2mY

Normally I don't ask for likes, but like so people can see it.

  • unfucking real! Killer harmonys and bryans bass is especially special!i'm a pro bass player and still can't comprehend his imagination! true genius! By the way mclaren212 your a fucking douche,go and listen to something good, take yourself to a madonna concert you tasteless muppet!

  • @McLaReN212 fuck you, asshole

  • @McLaReN212 go fuck ur self

  • I literally cry nearly every time I hear this song.....that tells you the power of music and Pet Sounds...

  • its so amazing at 2:05 when the violins in the background go up on "head"... its beautifully arranged i love how brian did that

  • Beautiful! Pet Sounds alone should have been called "Brian Wilson... THE ALBUM"!

  • Well, I already have Paul Anka's shoulder.

  • Rubber Soul is better. Revolver is better. The Beatles... WIN!

  • @kevin4peace your opinion is irrelevant here.

  • @kevin4peace this is a contest between bands? Completely different albums and bands, imbecile. The Beatles made Sgt. Peppers because of this album.

  • @kevin4peace Completely different bands/albums. You can't really compare the two, imbecile. Except for the fact that Sgt. Peppers was made because of this album.

  • @angrymanmacetc They are frequently compared by major music critics, and I didn't mention Sgt. Peppers, nor do I think it was as good as the aforementioned Beatles albums. I just don't see why this album is so highly praised.

  • @kevin4peace because its amazing. if you listen beyond the lyrics being sung and hear the beautiful arrangements and instrumentation you can tell this band are masters of composing, particularly Brian Wilson.

  • @StillLifeWithMangoes I respect this album for what it is, and I know it was influential for its time, but as for the music, I'd rather take any ELO album over this in terms of instrumentation, beautiful arrangements, and general catchiness.

  • @kevin4peace There's not liking this album and then there's not seeing why it's so popular. Yes, it's fine to dislike it, but the album was one of the most influential releases of the 20th century. The layers man, the fucking layers!

  • It's amazing that for a song-based video, 4 deaf people listened to it!

This is a work of art and Wilson is a genius. I havefour words for any doubters: twenty-three years old.

I don't know any one of that that age who could even dream of writing a song like this.

  • @Vpmatt Your right. That particular song on Pet Sounds has the misfortune of being on the same album as Caroline no, God only knows, You still believe in me and Wouldn't it be nice. Otherwise it would have certainly been more widely appreciated for it's cherishable beauty. I for one listen to it as well as the others often.

  • Pet sounds realy is so similar to the wee small hours by Sinatra

  • @EtieneyOssip Brian wilson and frank sinatra both had their own record company but sinata didnt write anything

  • The beautiful sad man...I love you Brian

  • The beautiful sad man...I love you Brian

  • Haunting, beautiful! Love the winedarksea version of it too.

  • nothing competes with the beauty and the drama of this song. The harmonic structure is unbelievable, thankyou Brian

  • god, that "listen..listen...listennn.." brings tears to my eyes every time.

  • just the perfect Love song.

  • It's all Brian...his voice overtracked on his own voice. Perfectly. Angelic. Goosebumps.

  • Perfect!!!

  • 1:46 - 1:51 PERFECT VOICEEEE ToT

  • 1:38 its amazing

  • I wish that Sean would cover this song and post it on Youtube //:

  • Sean Lennon showed me this song <3 Thanks babyyyy

  • @yourlostlittlegirl You know Sean Lennon personally? And I think he could pull off a great cover.

  • Rivers... he is going to cover this song. Rejoice.

  • Simply beautiful and moving.

  • i still cry whenever I hear this song, it's that good...

  • Does any one else notice the influence on strawberry alarm clock's world in a sea shell album? Go listen to it. The record company must have taken influence from pet sounds and wanted to duplicate it's success.

  • You owe it to yourself to seek out the official stereo remix of Pet Sounds, as well as the isolated vocal and backing tracks. A true revelation.

  • sean lennon says this is his favourite song

  • melancholy at its best ,beautiful song

  • The Beatles and the Beach Boys are not all that completely different. I am taking a music class and reading like crazy and the album "Pet Sounds" influenced Paul like crazy for their album of Sgt. Peppers. The Beach Boys in fact came up with a "formula" on how they got famous, and the Beatles used it too. So they are not all that separated as you guys are battling to say. Brian Wilson was smart though, he knew how to market and how to get out there...

  • amazing album

  • Beautiful song. So sad.

  • One of my all-time favorite Beach Boy songs alongside Lonely Sea and Please Let Me Wonder.

  • LOL WHO ACTUALLY COMPARES THESE PPL TO THE BEATLES 2 TOTALLY DIFFERENT STYLES BUT ARE BOTH ALL TIME FAVORITES PPL SEEM RO DO THAT ALOT BUT THEN AGAIN EVERYONE HAS 2 COMPARE BANDS TO THE BEATLES LOL THEY THE #1 BAND IN HISTORY OF MUSIC INTERNATIONALLY KNOWN CELEBS EVEN MORE WELL KNOWN THAN THE KING OF POP MJ LOL BUT GR8 TUNE THIS ALBUM WAS A BACK TO BACK TO BACK GR8 TUNES THROUGH THE WHOLE ALBUM

  • One of the most beautiful songs ever written by Brian Wilson. Should have been played on the radio but wasnt a single. So romantic and intimate. Amazing blend of vocals.

  • @uscgccampbell I quite agree. Further, that bass going down the scale evokes a heaviness, sadness. Hard to get this song out of my mind.

  • @leakystarfish you're such a loser

  • Other than Wouldn't It Be Nice, I think this is my favorite song on this album.

  • the beauty of this song is that i cry for three minutes and then... everything's fine.

The world is perfect while you're listening to pet sounds

  • like this album can compare to the stones' aftermath album. choir boys versus satan's sinners.

  • @frankyforearmsnycnh

Singers vs. screaming shitmouth mongoloid chimpanzees is more like it.

    Stones suck.

  • @leakystarfish heart of stone, lady jane, under my thumb, Flight 505, she's like a rainbow, sympathy for the devil, no expectations, you can't always get what you want, monkey man, gimme shelter, can't you hear me knocking?, bitch, sister morphine, rocks off, let it loose... Stones have written so many Classics man

  • @deaconbluesful

Well, that's a list alright...what's your fucking point?

  • Can people just talk about how awesome the Beach Boys are, and this song, instead of talking about other bands? haha geez.

  • It makes me so sad that I wasn't introduced to this specific album earlier. Then again, would I have been able to appreciate it then?

The most sad thing though: how did we go from pure genius of music like this to what is playing today? What happened to the world of music my friends... :(

  • @ninetyninenette

It's really rare that an album like this is made I think. Did we just have an unnatural glut of great musicians in the 60s and 70s? Who knows. Beethoven and Mozart came along within a crazily small time, working in the same city - sometimes these things just happen.

  • @ninetyninenette what about grizzly bear or fleet foxes? i think they are a fine addition to music history.

  • @EliasMohr those are fine additions and all but they are like rain drops contributing to an ocean. in other words no matter how good this decade thinks they are, they will never be as good as the beach boys or 60's music in general. no disrespec, they are talented musicians, but from an objective point of view examining american pop culture and music, for all intents and purposes they will always remain obscure bands who will always need to be "discovered" by any future musical researcher.

  • DE SEGURO ESTOS PINCHES DEJENERADOS SE COJIERON A LAS PINCHES PUTAS CABRAS

  • This is the most diverse, beautiful melody I've ever heard. Brian's voice is angelic.

  • One of the best albums of all time.

  • this could get you laid .

  • @onerydoory

hahaha i have gotten many a girl into the beach boys playing this song in bed... pet sounds in general really :P

  • @onerydoory it has.

  • Im 61 and bought sgt pepper new back in l967...loved it then, but now when I listen to it, its not the same....not as good as when I was a teen....always loved pet sounds, great great album, but being a life long kinks fan, I still love one of the greatest albums and most underrated....of all time...the kinks l968...The Kinks are the Village Green Preservation Society...

  • I wish this song could go on forever

  • I prefer Pet Sounds to every Beatle album, and I'm a bigger Beatle fan. Other than what was going to be with Smile, no BB album matches the Beatles except this one. Pepper is too candy-coated and flashy psychedelic. I prefer the honest emotional romanticism of Pet Sounds and actually I prefer Revolver, Rubber Soul, The White Album and Abbey Road to Sgt. Pepper. It was more of the times but hasn't dated as well as Pet Sounds which IMO is simply timeless. But it's all a matter of taste I guess.

  • Some songs just leave you speechless. My god what a composition...

  • To my musician friends... This is.the BEST ROMANTIC SONG EVER!!!

  • wow. Thats some heavy duty reverb going on there. Great tune!

  • I'm 13, and I love The Beach Boys. Ha'

  • @KristinCullen1 cool Im impressed

  • I don't understand how he fit so much into just 3 minutes! All of his songs on Pet Sounds are about 3 minutes long, yet if you listen to 'wouldn't it be nice' or 'hang on to your ego', it seems the songs span a great deal longer!

Anyone heard the released song from his new Gershwin album yet? It is FANTASTIC.

  • Comment removed

  • fuckin love the beach boys

  • Listening to this album makes me feel like I was born in the 60's. I love the feeling it gives me.

  • ok people..straight up....this is the most beautiful rock song ever...are you kidding me??? omg...just play it over and over....

  • instant magique!!!!!!!!!

  • Pet Sounds is great, but I would rank Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Revolver, Rubber Soul and The White Album all higher.

  • @nokturnal5647 I rank Pet sounds right up there with them, all are great albums, Sgt Peppers was the Beatles trying to beat or one up Pet Sounds...I love all those albums

  • I don't know if it's because i was born in the 50's, and grew up with the Beach Boys etc, but to me, nothing in this modern world can elevate to this level of Beauty. They may have all the digital technology available, but all that does NOT make everlasting timeless songs, of which the likes of Brian Wilson and his (then) contempories created.

  • I just found out Brian Wilson was only 23 when he made "Pet Sounds." And he was mostly deaf in one ear. And it was only released in mono. This is almost super-human really.

  • Brian Wilson = GENIUS

  • this song reminds me as the "end of summer", and back to school/work

  • I've just discovered this wonderful album for the first time, and this song is far and away my favourite, it's really beautiful and moving. In fact I've never heard a song quite like it, it's almost like having an out-of-body experience, when he hits the high notes of the chorus.

It must have been so exciting to grow up in the 1960s with all this brilliant, innovative music coming out.

  • beautiful

  • I'm a big music fan and it's my first time hearing this one. Wow!! What a gorgeous, flowing ballad. What a brilliant mind Brian possesses.

  • No song captures the actual "feel" or atmosphere of an intimate moment, BOTH musically and lyrically, than this one does.

I am completely convinced of this.

  • this album is my germaline...this song especially

  • One of the best songs ever written.

  • Music is so important.

  • wonderful

  • Mozart of pop

  • @GameGearLTD I said the exact same thing to my mom, but with Behtoven (I think I spelled that wrong) instead of Mozart

  • this song is simply wonderful!!!

  • I love listening to this album while playing Modern Warfare 1 and 2.

  • one controller with each hand i guess huh?
