So if I want to make a melodie do I keep the keys with in the same scale?if I go out of the scale does that make me out of key?Someone please answer I'm new to studying music theory.
@ave383 Most of the time, you play melody notes within the scale or key you choose. Say if you play Twinkle Twinkle Little Star using C scale, then all your notes must be natural notes as this scale uses only white keys. But occasonally, you need an odd sharp or flat note to be played to add certain mood to the melody. This is called an accidental and is outside the scale; bottomline is, when creating melodies, there are no hard and fast rules you can really stick to...
Thanks i learned something new, great tutorial!

I want you to be my teacher!!!
I'm currently trying to learn piano by ear, and I hope and pray someone would teach me.
I'm currently having a heart time as I don't understand which chord to press when I hear one song.
Do hope to get your reply soon!
