  • Fuck... Even when Daryl's only singing back up... That soulful touch comes out distinctly...

  • Wow, this sparked a lot of debate. The thing is, whether people like it or not, Hall & Oates turned out to be the most successful duet in history having more charted songs than Simon & Garfunkel. H & O had a long career and wrote many songs for themselves and other people. They may not be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame but they are in the Songwriters Hall of Fame. As for Rob, as Natasha Beddingfield says- the rest is still unwritten. His songs are painfully beautiful.

  • some savage guitars in that room

  • JACKASS? I stated my error...put my head on the tracks for you...my pc had jumped to another clip unknowingly and I was reading the posts for a video OTHER than what I had viewed. IT WAS A MISTAKE. Read my apology---way back? I've been a music fan for 40+ years. 1998 was yesterday in my book. 8-tracks were NEW when I got into music. I made a MISTAKE. I accept your apology in advance for stooping to name-calling. Geez....

  • @travlgent1 jackass I have this song on my MATCHBOX20 album. Way back in 1998. In cassette tape.

  • OMG...have to retract...my posts were attributed to the wrong video...ouch!!! Modern technology...a thousand gomens...

  • Hall and Oats need to come to Dallas!!!!!!!!!

  • Rob did write this song for his mother who did have Cancer. However, she was never considered terminal, and she is still very much alive and well and Cancer free.

  • @JZieb1 Actully, she passed away in 2007. But it wasn't from complications due to cancer!

  • @JZieb1 Rob's mom did die. I think it was last year or something Can't remember exactly when. Not from the cancer but something else.

  • @JZieb1 You can't be serious...Hall and Oates wrote this song and first recorded it in 1973. Rob Thomas was one year old. THAT'S the fact, not a story!

  • @travlgent1 Wrong video---my pc jumped! Sorry!

  • @travlgent1 Better check your facts. You are VERY wrong.

  • Great stuff. Good to see music appreciated

  • did you know rob wrote this song for his mom while she was dying from cancer!! true story...

  • That was great ! They riped it word.

  • Ever since I found out what the song is really about, I can see the emotion in Robs eyes. Probably the most meaning of any song he's done. :-)

  • Love Hall and Oates... But Daryll Hall put too much of his own here it felt like he didn't know what the matchbox 20 song was about.

  • @sjpossiblilities Please...do just a little research here...NOT A MATCHBOX 20 SONG!

  • @travlgent1 Wrong video! Sorry!

  • @travlgent1 This song is written by Rob Thomas and a few others! Get your facts right man...

  • Wow what a combo for musicians.

  • Not to take anything away from Rob Thomas...he's good...but he is just SO LUCKY to be playing with Daryl Hall...

  • Hall and Oats are SUPERIOR to almost anybody out there now.

  • thank you for this fantastic performance. They are great together.

  • Daryl Hall is the shit! This is awesome!

  • Why dont you teach people about great artist like Daryl Hall instead of criticizing them for not knowing. Try not being such a jack ass and people might respect you too.

  • This is awesome seeing Daryl Hall and Rob Thomas jammin' together......and not just Rob but I see he's been jammin' with a few other artists.......love it!!!!! = D

  • outstanding

  • Who is the drummer? He is great.

  • the one at 1:14, I mean

  • I like the guy in the hat :D

  • So do you know who darryl hall is now?

  • @scribe56 lol yes. to a point, at least

  • anyone else think Rob looks like he's about to cry during this song? Not that i blame, since it's prolly a very emotional song for him about when his mom had cancer

  • The drummer either looks very angry, or about to cry because of how awesome this song is...

  • cut the poster slack... either young, or like allot of folks, MANY do not admit they listened to, or LIKED, H&O... and dont get me started on the R&RHOF...

  • Daryl Hall is, IMO, just the greatest white soul singer ever!

  • @DoubleStar32

    seconded

  • Matchbox 20 was a local band in Orlando, FL that played as Tiffanys Secret for a long time, and how do you not know who Daryl Hall is?

  • @asbestosfish It's Tabitha's Secret not Tiffanys and it has been nearly 30 years since Hall & Oates were big!

  • @TheHokielou You are correct, it was Tabithas Secret.

  • Love Rob working with Daryl, they sound great together. My favorite Hall and Oats song is still "Sara Smile". :- ) Won't you smile a while for me, Sara Smile.

  • hahaha funny thing is matchbox 20 is 1/1000th as good as Hall and Oates, and I'm 25 years old

  • @COLEWEB13 wellll we all have our opinions lol ;)

  • @COLEWEB13 LOL My ASS!! Why do you think Rob was the first guest on this show? Because real recognize real and Daryl Hall knows Rob Thomas is going to go down as one of the greatest of all time!! He writes for people like Santana and Mick Jagger, for his band, and for his solo stuff.. and it's all AMAZING!! Rob Thomas is on the track to being this generations John Lennon, without all the bullshit. Ur 25 and you know nothing about music yet...

  • @Str8Rydah11 Rob Thomas was the first guest on this show? Perhaps you should do some research. The episode with Rob Thomas was episode 31. And I'm not taking ANYTHING away from Rob Thomas. But Daryl Hall is a master at his craft. You do realize that the show is called Live from Daryl's House right? He's worked with some of the greatest artists of the last 2 generations of music. Again, Thomas is going to be one of the greats, but will NEVER top Daryl Hall. Just sayin.

  • @COLEWEB13 matchbox twenty is 54395823094587329458734 better than Hall and Oates...you obviously haven't listened to matchbox twenty's music

  • @COLEWEB13 You're a moron.

  • @COLEWEB13

Dude how can you be comparing the two? They're both incredibly talented. Let's leave it at that!

  • I love Daryl. He is a total classic teaching them all in a free for all. Gotta love him!!

  • @jljennsweetie Totally agree. The loving tudor, passing, listening and coaching them with his presence....I love him for everything he wrote and this initiative. @his home...a natural!

  • i give rob thomas and daryl hall a huge amount of credit because they did some great songs and perfected them like they were nothing

  • even my teenagers arelistening to all my hall and oates albums from the 70's eventually everything comes around again................they still thrill me like a teenager

good music lasts thru the generations.

  • they do a great job doing this song and with daryll hall with rob thomas is just mind blowing because they are 2 great artists and make a great combination

  • Brilliant thanks so much for uploading
