The dance floor and stage would fill up instantly when this anthem was played at Camden Palace week after week back in 91.....well done Lucinda will have to buy you a drink for the happy memories one day x
I totally missed this track when it came out- as I was too young for the dance scene at the time. A couple of years later I picked up the compilation CD "Deep Heat 11" and his track was on it. It quickly became my favourite from the CD. Bring back the 90s I say - dance music is rubbish today.
well said gdub, you're right anyway sampling the scene when this version was around wold have been the experience of a lifetime, believe me, i was there :)
"Song For Lindy" was a tribute to singer Lindy Layton from the band Beats International. The band also had Norman Cook in it, who is Fatboy Slim. The track just used the same piano sample ("Better Days" by Jimi Polo) as "40 Miles" did.
Fell on this by accident, wot a touch, takes me bck 2 the old days, oh how I miss the old days, glow rods, Whistles, Horns crew avin it off their tits!!! just looked for elevation & raindance footage. Never be days like the old raving ones again, kids these days r 2 interested in fighting & showing off, raving was the complete opposite, everything was all about the music & everyone was mates.
ok note taken, i prefer the congress version tho, the vocal and dubplate versions. I think you will find that paino melodies have frequently been ripped off on many tracks. Also your comment bares no relevance to mine, why would i need to educate myself just because i said i would have liked to been at a suitable age to go out raving in 1991?
Nobody's denying the rip-offs that go on; what I'm saying is, listen to Jimi Polo's Better Days and it will be an education, nothing to do with your age mate.
well i did listen to it, a month ago after you told me too, i didnt really find it all that great. how was it an education? that is what i would like you to explain to me. if by education you mean i needed to know that he used that piano line first then indeed i may have been enlightened, to what extent i would say was negligible.

Remember it!!!
This Congress tune was one of the very first original tunes that kicked it all off.
Crazy the actual singer of 40 Miles is here today on YouTube!
There needs to be a revival of all these tunes, you don't even need to make any new tunes thought just use all the old Formation Records, Production House, Moving Shadow, you know the deal by now.
This song was a great tune in my opinion and it just did not get the right amount of marketing to reap the huge financial rewards it deserved. One of my favourites of 1991.
Was a Massive track at the time, then she sang live on TOTP and oh dear......... thank the lord for Vinyl.

Yes vocals add to the track, though instrumental is an awesome house hit. However the vocals elevate this anthem to legendary status!

Just wanted to stick my 2p worth into the Garage/House/ argument.
Jimi Polo released Better Days in 1989 and until the mid 90's Garage was something that most people kept cars in!
So the argument really doesn't bear up under close examination.
OK?
Sometimes it's better to keep ones mouth shut and let everyone think you are a fool.
Than to open it and remove all doubt!
Oh and while I'm here.
Oi! Oi!, Shelleys Massive make sum fuckin noooiyzzzzaaa!

A rip-off of a classic garage track. Try looking for Jimi Polo's Better Days on here and educate yourself.
