  • The word "baul" is an adjective that means a state of emotion, love's ecstasy. Mystic mendicants, the baul spread a philosophy in their chants that was nourished by the great religions of Bengal, notably Buddhism, Tantrism, Sufism and Vishuism. Although it was born of this religious syncretism, the baul movement does not identify with any one of the above religions.

  • Its the Great Nimai goswami...OMG..I cant blv that He still sings in train....Paban Das Baul, Nimai Goswami, Gour Khepa and Mimlu Sen are four of the most famous ambassadors of Baul movement in last 20-30 years....

and those guys who are blabbering about baul being dalit...dravidian....please know your facts...

  • Most of the Dravidians are in south India. a lot of them remain in north India too, scattered in the society by the upper caste atrocious acts. you can even find them in the jungles of north India. Dravidians have great culture. they built early civilization in India. They are great explorers, engineers and constructors. Indus valley civilization is their product.

  • Dalits are Dravidians scattered throughout india. SC's who fought tooth and nail chose to remain in the society at the out skirts, under the peripheral ladar of Hindu society . Some of them fled to jungles who are now called ST's.. they even now fear to come out of jungle for the traumatic past they encountered by the upper caste barbarian Aryan people. SC,ST's have same roots but they r displaced from their lands, properties and cultures. Dalit is one term which unites them.

  • wow ..

    what a meaning full song..

i m proud for my tradition song..

  • bauls do not follow any religios rituals or cast system . bauls should not be put into one of your social or religios ranking systems . their whole identity is rejection of our organised religios system .

  • dalis are not the natives of india. the so called ST-s are.

  • He is not Dalit, nor Musim. It appears to be Nimai Goswami of Bolpur, in which case, caste is Brahmin. However, he is Baul, which really knows no caste, Religion, etc. Amazing to see this world travelled great still singing on trains. However, sad to see him going unrecognized by cameraman and viewers.

  • I liked this baul

  • I fail to understand what made you use the term 'Dalit'.

Baul is after all a cult similar (and is inked to Sufism in Bengal) with a certain set of philosophies. Any cult for that matter is and will remain marginalized. Bauls do not aspire for high ranked jobs so that there is supposedly oppression by the upper class Hindus. Singing forms a major part of their tradition and way of livelihood. Judging by the necklace the person is wearing I would suppose that his religion is Islam.

  • @cheblover

dalit by meaning is one who rejects religion and caste. i hope u understood the meaning.

  • he is not dalit : he is abhavgrast

  • Good music. Baul form of music should be given more importance and should be popularized as an important part of the native Indian (Dalit) culture.
