I'm pretty sure Stephen Malkmus agreed to appear on this show for the same reason Bill O'Reilly and John Bolton agreed to appear on The Daily Show. You can tell he looks and sounds pretty bummed/bored to be on Fox News, and he did take a rip at the economy (Bush was still president when Real Emotional Trash came out) and capitalism. Yeah Malkmus is a sarcastic guy but that's just his nature. Everyone in Pavement was a little bit sarcastic and silly. Malkmus is a class act. Not a brilliant musician, but a great songwriter. I've been a committed Pavement fan since I saw them in 1997. And that's bled through to his post-1999 career.
