I'm going to buy a D40 with the 18-200mm VR lens hopefully within a month or so! Then later on I will probably invest in a D90 when the price has gone down......
ok ok. what do you think moving from a compact(dslr size and body) like fuji 6500fd to this very attractive nikon d40, here in spain it is for 290euros and i have been all the day thinking in buying it or not. i know it is a great machine.cool and nice. but in your opinions guys, will i see significant changes or differences between my camera and the d40?
can someone help me what model to buy. Im planning to buy one. but i get confused on what to buy. should i get the less expensive d40 or would i go for much higher d80. i went through a lot of sites and they all recommend the d80 for beginners. why?
hey am 15 and dont no much about photography only the basics iso shuter speed ect.. am wondering if i should get a nikon d60 or pay lees for a d40 ?? i want to learn alot !!!
There's a local camera store who sold it for 550. It include the standard lens, plus the 88-200 mm lens, two dvds on photogrpahy and a bag. And that was a nikon package.
good for you. I got a FREE tripod, case, battery grip and a sb-800 just for buying it at that store. Plus a 4 YEAR WARRANTY. So i don't think i got ripped off
Dude. Get the dirtbike. You can always find a cooler dslr, like the D70s, for much cheaper and it has better features plus you can use all the lenses nikon makes (unlike the D40). And if you dont like the dirtbike? then trade it for a dslr. Lots of photo-jockeys like me will be more than willing to trade a camera for a dirtbike!
I do.. lol. Each cam serves their purpose. Just think of it as a concrete block will do a better job at knocking someone unconscious than a a plastic block...
Ive had since around 2005/2006 it works great but it is getting kinda worn out so im going to buy the nikon d5100 in a few months! :)))

TobbyLD 3 years ago
no, go for a nikon d60 or canon xs.
pacbiggie4334 3 years ago
Why whats the difference between them both?
deauxwolf 3 years ago
not much, the xs is cheaper, and canon is well known for their rebel line of cameras
pacbiggie4334 3 years ago

I know alot about cameras and have both a d60 a nd d40. Ihonestly do not feel anny diffrens in the 2. buy the d40.

buy a d80 body only and get the 18-200 VR
sexybeast334567891 3 years ago
thats alot of money. the 18-200 is a rip off. Get a sigma 18-200 OS. its alot cheaper and has less distortion
Audiosyncratic100 3 years ago
but sigma lenses are cheap, nikon are pro lenses and much sharper
uscgswimmers 3 years ago
For a beginner i think you should go for the d40.

The D40 currently sells for $499.99 retail.

Correction 55-200 mm lens.
Still doesn't change the fact that you were RIPPED off
AllAmericanGuy01 3 years ago

with the d40you can still use all of the old lenses you just have to do it manualy wich is just twisting the lens on them
SuperChevy446 3 years ago
What? Really? Never mind then, disregard my comment as a dribbling psych-ward patient whos only love is for his cement fish which I wear as shoes.
4darin5 3 years ago
I prefer D40 over D80, because of the size. Who wants to carry around a black concrete block?
m8rix4ever 4 years ago
I do.. lol. Each cam serves their purpose. Just think of it as a concrete block will do a better job at knocking someone unconscious than a a plastic block...
rollakid 4 years ago
It doesn't matter what DSLR camera you have, really. Everything depends on who is behind the camera ^^
m8rix4ever 4 years ago
yep... a cam is just a tool, it makes your work easier but you are the limitation on how good the picture will be...
rollakid 4 years ago
dont get a D40 get a D80

No! This is a great thing over canon's. You can change the memory card while powered on!
mckoe 5 years ago
it takes less than a second to power it back up
GOOOFYproductions 5 years ago
For a camera expert, that was fooish of him to leave the power on whie he removed the memory card.
No,no,no >.<
rabbitkeeper 5 years ago
Thats only if it is writing to the card (light on, Bozo)
jazz1450 4 years ago
No,you should NEVER remove a card from any camera when the Powers still on,regardless if it's writing data or not.
rabbitkeeper 4 years ago
Quoted for truth. It is very clearly written in the manual, NOT EVER to remove the parts that the presentator did do.
