The dutch letter are almost like A pie crust with almond paste in the middle in the shape of S. They sell them at one of the bakerys. I can't think of the name of it right now.
I dissagree that the parade its only good the first couple of times. I lived in Pella and it never got boring. I still go there every year and now I live out of state.
I was in north part of Germany back in 84 and I have to say the people of that town were real clean also. They we up early and taking care of the outside of the house.
GREAT!!! i never knuw there was a dutch festival in the US.
The funny thing is i NEVER EVER EVER EVER could have dreamed that there wil be a sinterklaas (guy with the red clothing i case you didnt know) in the US.
i had heard that some us people have a dutch lastname (since we HAD new amsterdam)is that true??
In the XIXth century there was a reverend called Scholte, who quarreled with EVERYBODY in the Netherlands. So he took his parish and went to the States. Because he was also on bad terms with reverend Van Raalte (the founder of Holland Michigan) he and his people went to Iowa.
some dutch words:
bicycle: fiets (pranounce: feets)
cheese: kaas (pranounce kAs with the A as in aaaaaa when someone drops to dead)
tulip: tulp (pranounce t-ulp)
clog: klomp (pranounce: clomp)
poop: poep (pranounce poop)
watching TV: hoeren neuken (pranounce: hooren nöken with the ö as in a swedish ö)

You mean the chocoladeletters? Those are eaten when Sinterklaas (the Dutch equivalent to Santaclaus) enters the Netherlands by boat.
