@hundredmanca I couldn't agree more. Whenever I show this film to people, I tell them to watch it like they'd watch a play. As a drama, this film is absolutely top notch. The dialogue is gorgeous, the camerawork equally so.
The words stuck in my mind when I first heard them in the movie. At first, I thought it was just a really nice line done eloquently, performed and articulated. But the words still haunt me, and always with fresh meaning. Not quoting exactly, but "the world kneels in awe before love." It kneels in awe before it. It kneels on awe. What a strange and wondrous thing love must be then, to have such an effect... on the world! On the whole entire world!
One of my favorite films. Beautiful cinematography. I love how the actors can communicate with the other actors and audience with just their body motions and facial expressions. The silent moments in this movie where there isn't any speaking are the most beautiful.
I love this movie. This scene shows why they moved there. I remember having a discussion with a friend about this community. She thought it was wrong to hide the truth. So I guess if you had to have a choice which would it be? The real life or a life that is protected yet sort of innocently "deceiving." I can see their justification. I'd probably do anything to protect the ones I'd love. What benefit is their in knowing the truth?
@dcpinner I think, if it meant distancing the ones I loved from such a world as they have experienced...yes, I would do as they did. But I could not say that it would be right to do so. This film depicts, albeit beautifully, a fiercely guarded attempt at a utopia, gilded by fear. It is honest, but arguably, it is not truth. But then, that is what makes it the fascinating film that it is :)
2:29 to 2:36 Oh yes, the world certainly does do that before Love. Anyone who days it does'nt is either lying to themselves or truly blind. And I don't think many people are truly blind.
This movie is so beautifully shot and directed. Everything about why the community moved to Covington in the first place is very subtly interlaced with the intrigue of the story. William Hurt acts the scenes with confidence, belief and heart - a genuine performance, he masters the slightly 'Elizabethan' dialect and phrasing with relative ease as though he were meant to play the part, I don't think that they could have cast anyone better for this role.
That Irish fellow-whose name I forget, I used to think he was the saddest case in the village. Wounded, almost apathetic. No, he was one of the sanest. You CAN'T run from pain. Even in a place as pure and innocent as that. It will be there. He accepted that fact.
Powerfull scene. Great Acting, my favorite scene from the movie. :)

The movie goes downhill at breakneck speed from the end of that scene. Everything up to there is just beautifully confident cinema.

@hundredmanca Very good point, never thought of it that way but I completely agree with you.
