I don't know who changed the definition of an all-star but this is why you have entire rosters like the Pistons and Celtics going to all star games. There are other stars like Al Jefferson and Bosh at that time that were out playing those guys. Guys are getting rewarded for playing team basketball even though that's what they should be doing.

Love is massively overrated, Duncan is still a better player than him even at his age. Love put up 20 and 15 in 36 mins this year while Duncan put up 13 and 11 in 28 mins this year. Give Duncan 8 extra minutes and his #'s are prolly 19 and 15. Not only that but he was averaging almost 3 blocks per game in those 28 mins, give him 7 more and he prolly gets 4 BPG.
TD is still one of the best defenders in the NBA, the only 2 big men better on D than him are Bynum and Howard.
Of course, he needs to save his body for the playoffs, most of the Spurs victories this year were blow outs in which Duncan just stayed on the bench. Duncan was forced to step it up last year because everyone was playing so crappy, he was putting up 20 and 12 in 32 mins and was easily the best PF in the NBA, he was dominating other teams, that was until Manu FINALLY started playing well (he was playing very bad at first) during the 2nd half of the season and took the load off TD.

The problem is the definition of an All Star has changed. It's a popularity contest now. Back in the day when he played, it was about the actual star players. You don't have an entire Pistons or Celtics starting roster there. You had a select guy or two from different teams who were the stars of their team. The MJs, GPs, Grant Hills and guys from all the teams. How do you think Tracy McGrady became a superstar? It's not because his team was winning, they were barely above .500 from 2000-2004.

Typical uneducated basketball fan. Amare is having a better season than TD this year but that's it. Last year TD was putting up career numbers while the Spurs struggled, better #'s than Dirk, Pau, and Amare, that was until Manu found the fountain of youth and carried the Spurs the rest of the way, TD's body was worn out by the end of the season cause he was carrying the Spurs on his back every single game the first half of the season which lead to a poor playoff performance.
Amare has always been a good offensive player but that's it. TD on the other hand has held down the paint for the Spurs year after year after year. Amare? Absolutely 0 defense, he'll occasionally get a block or two but he'll get scored on by EVERYBODY. TD's defense has only declined the past 2 years, prior to that he was a BEAST. A defensive big man such as TD alters EVERYONE's shot on the floor, his ability to guard the Pick and roll was excellent as well.
Look at LA in '08 when Bynum was out. Pau was almost a carbon copy of Amare, great offensive game and 0 defense. LA got raped by every single front line they played thanks to Pau's 0 defense. What happened when Bynum played? Championship. The last legit defensive big man TD played with was Robinson, so don't act like TD had help on defense.
how about when Amare averaged 30 plus points vs. TD? Every time Amare matched up with Tim, amare outplayed him, Tim also has had better defensive players around him. Tim is better defensively Amare offensively. You say he has no help, but Amare's help were always guys who never even thought about D. Tims great, but Amare was playing better than him.
All Amare has to do is score, that was the Suns philosophy and now it's the same with the Knicks, he has NEVER had to play defense, besides he wasn't THAT much better than TD on offense. GP wasn't saying Al Jefferson was a better player than Tim Duncan, he was saying at that point in time, for the first part of the season, Al Jefferson was playing better basketball. At the end of the day though, everyone is taking Duncan or KG over Al Jefferson because they are better players. They just weren't performing as well as Jefferson because they didn't have to because they had good teams.

The problem is the definition of an All Star has changed. It's a popularity contest now. Back in the day when he played, it was about the actual star players. You don't have an entire Pistons or Celtics starting roster there. You had a select guy or two from different teams who were the stars of their team. The MJs, GPs, Grant Hills and guys from all the teams. How do you think Tracy McGrady became a superstar? It's not because his team was winning, they were barely above .500 from 2000-2004.

If you want to make a team when the players are in the primes, then yes anyone would take Tim Duncan. Typical uneducated basketball fan. Amare is having a better season than TD this year but that's it. Last year TD was putting up career numbers while the Spurs struggled, better #'s than Dirk, Pau, and Amare, that was until Manu found the fountain of youth and carried the Spurs the rest of the way, TD's body was worn out by the end of the season cause he was carrying the Spurs on his back every single game the first half of the season which lead to a poor playoff performance.

Amare has always been a good offensive player but that's it. TD on the other hand has held down the paint for the Spurs year after year after year. Amare? Absolutely 0 defense, he'll occasionally get a block or two but he'll get scored on by EVERYBODY. TD's defense has only declined the past 2 years, prior to that he was a BEAST. A defensive big man such as TD alters EVERYONE's shot on the floor, his ability to guard the Pick and roll was excellent as well.

Look at LA in '08 when Bynum was out. Pau was almost a carbon copy of Amare, great offensive game and 0 defense. LA got raped by every single front line they played thanks to Pau's 0 defense. What happened when Bynum played? Championship. The last legit defensive big man TD played with was Robinson, so don't act like TD had help on defense.

All Amare has to do is score, that was the Suns philosophy and now it's the same with the Knicks, he has NEVER had to play defense, besides he wasn't THAT much better than TD on offense. Do you know how much energy not playing defense saves? A LOT. Tim almost never guarded Amare btw, he didn't to avoid foul trouble. Duncan WAS their defense, him and Bowen were the only good defenders on the Spurs, TP is terrible on D, Manu, etc.

In 07 the suns lost the series cuz amare got suspended, then the suns swept san antonio and amare outplayed tim again. Pretty sure GP has more all star appearances than everyone else in the studio combined. There's a difference between an all-star and a superstar. Superstar: KG, Tim Duncan, guys who have done it forever and have been an all-star forever and does it all for their teams.
