Carl I understand the change from constant buzz of NYC to NC but I sometimes confuse boredom with peace and serenity ! - DriverLic., in Louisiana if you cancel insurance you have to turn in the auto tag (License plate) or DMV will 'flag' your license. Carl, Happy New Year my friend, I am happy that you like New York...I was there when I was your age and it was truly an experience that I shall never forget. Yes, you can drive other people's cars, if they have insurance allowing it. The insurance you purchase is usually for a car that you own or are buying.

Carl, I had almost the opposite experience. I'm a lifelong NYCer, but stayed in NC for several months when my girlfriend was finishing her Masters at Duke. What a welcome respite from the craziness of NYC. I just couldn't get over people calling me "sir." So civilized! I almost wanted to get a job at Research Triangle Park. The biggest problem was that I didn't drive, so I know how you feel, sistah! We're both back in NYC now, but we remember the NC days fondly.
It's not that YOUR license doesn't 'work'...but YOU have to be personally insured. Even though a car is insured, it's insured only for certain people to drive. It sucks, but ya...
Dude Carl...I LOVE your vids man...respect to you man... I know subway is the ticket to go where you need to go and they are all kinds fast. I work on a cruise ship and But that prolly means nothin but Love the honesty you give......Rock on man.
Carl, insurance covers two things: collision (i.e. your car) and personal liability. You can drive without the first one (but that would mean if you total a friend's car that you're on the hook for the cost of their car), but you can't legally drive without the second one, in case you hit someone else's car and/or injure them. Joshua's guess in his video response is wrong. So if you don't have insurance right now, unless you're on your parents' policy still, don't drive.
LOL. You are sooooo bitten! And its only been a few months. Well you're probably packed to back by now. Now that you've had this experience you can plan ahead for the next time you're home.

Yep, NYC is "incredibly safe," relatively speaking. If I'm not mistaken, we are now statistically the safest large city in the US. On 12/30/09, a report showed that 2009 had the lowest homicide rate ever, since recordkeeping began in 1963. Other crimes are at similar lows -- pretty surprising during economic turmoil, where people are desperate and the the police force is cut. Even terrorism isn't much of an everyday issue.
It's true. NYC's violent crime rate is well below that of many other large cities, but mainstream America (read: clueless suburbia) still thinks there's a crackhead with a machete around every corner. The demographics of urban America have changed since the 1970s, but outdated impressions die hard. Gang activity especially is not strong in central cities; a quick scary drive thru certain parts of northern New Jersey (or the San Francisco area's East Bay) can make that real clear.
I'm so glad you mentioned niptuck, I haven't watched any of season 6..but I've watched all the other seasons religiously on tv haha. Time to go find a streaming site, or torrent ~_~.
hmmm...i'm not a lawyer, but i think you're right - its the car owner that insures the car, not the driver who needs insurance (if he has a license) unless NC is different (did you call the dmv??? try that)
weird (imho) that you're missing nyc but i guess different ppl like different things...nyc is nice to visit but i definitely wouldnt wanna live there...but can be nice for nye i guess...i just dont like being in a crowd ALL THE TIME!!! lol drop a ball on kitty hawk & have a gr8 2010!! :)
@thegamelordoftheworl True words!!! and the title of one of my favorite writer Thomas Wolfe's novels, who actually was from North Carolina like this guy.
you should have a problem getting a job...just tell them your youtube royalty...lol...Christmas wasnt supper great this year...the thing i got that stuck out the most was the newest season of greek (abc family series...the best...)and some other ramdon stuff...
but s for the transportation thing that sucks...sorry...and i hope you new year starts out GREAT...:)
i got $100 and a dvd + stocking stuffers. worst xmas ever. im guessing it had something to do w/ me recently coming out to my parents and moving out becuz they think im going to hell if i get intimate w/ a man. yay.
you are cute, haha and i got a cell phone, lap top (another one i just got one in june (an apple) but idk my parents decided to get me another one) and i got cloths and other stuff, my birthday is in january and im getting an ipod touch : ) and im bored : p
Hannukah was fab. I got $300 from relatives, as well as some books, the new Lady GaGa signature earphones (in red) and the 70th Anniversary Ultimate Collector's Edition Box Set of the Wizard of Oz!!!! ^_^ it's just awesome!!!!
I feel the same way! I went from a SMALL ASS Ohio town in the boondocks to Sacramento, California. Not as big as NYC, but definitely the same lifestyle. Small towns suck!
i miss new york so much i moved to nc like a year ago and no one can compare ny 2 nc ny was an amzing place to live it was just a different life style
lol I live in NYC. I couldn't imagine living anywhere else. However, I'm going to Waltham, MA for college. not too far from Boston so I guess I'll survive. I'm going to the ball drop for new years lol with friends this time XD
JUST IMAGINE ALL THE HYPE THAT WOULD GO ON STARTING BEFORE THANKSGIVING!!! ALL THE PRETTY SONGS AND LIGHTS AND DECORATIONS I WOULD FEEL LIKE THEY WERE CELEBRATING MY BIRTHDAY!!! HOW AWESOME WOULD THAT BE!!!!
o..m..g...I just realized I accidentally had all the caps on. mmm...my bad.
You license is still valid, if you are insured, your insurance will carry over to another vehicle. Otherwise the vehicle must state other casual drivers on the policy. It won't get you in trouble with the law, but if something does happen, it could mean the difference between being covered or not. Buck up, you will survive.
i posted yesterday and someone responded to me and said that i was wrong, they agreed with you. not to sound childish but you guys are wrong. car insurance is sold to a person, but is affected to their car alone
if someone were to borrow your car and be at fault in an accident your insurance would pay out and your premium would increase not theirs
a casual drivers policy involves someone who would not be covered under the insurance normally like your child.
Hey Carl - sorry your bored. Have a great New Year anyway. When life gives you lemons make a Youtube video! How about you film NC squirrels now and NYC squirrels when you get back there and do a comparison concept video - or just sleep alot until you go back. Either way u r so cool that itz all good.
maybe the relaxation is good for you, in past videos you've seemed stressed about the n.y. environment. it's obvious you've become accustomed to the exciting life in new york, but i say you chill out and enjoy your time in north carolina because soon you'll be thrust back into new york, and eventually you might want to go back home. :\ sorry you're bored.
@ReadyOkayGo Maybe drLa1992 has no where else to go. There are other places to contact of course, but if at 16 he doesn't know what else to do, I can't blame him. It's better to talk about it somewhere than to say nothing at all.
You're not insured to drive other peoples car, it's frowned down upon, but your license still works. The only thing is, is that if you wreck a car their insurance won't cover it. UNLESS they have full coverage, which likely will cover ANY licensed driver.
New York City is a fantastic place, yeah, but enjoy all the benefits of being home. No school, no homework, no papers to write, no exams to stress over. Just enjoy having no responsibilities whatsoever and don't let your parents drive you crazy. Because they're driving me crazy. And we usually have a good relationship. Hmm.
As far as I know, if you have a license you're legal to drive, but if your parents dropped you off their car insuranse, if you have an accident you're responsible.
A belated Merry Christmas Carl and Happy New Year.
Carl; you are being over stimulated. NYC is simply another central nervous system stimulant.....like speed, crank or other street drugs. Your whole persona has changed recently, most noticebly since you got to NY. Please look at your life as 60 more years not just this weeks excitement, or todays stimulation.
This from a 61YO GWM same husband 32 years.
Too much party, too much drug too much stimulation....= dead or crazy.
Within a short time in that cafe, you will have interactions...and people will talk to yoou, and approach you and natural conversation etc etc.
It happens every day in NYC, but in the suburbs it doesn't...SAD but true.
ANYWAY.....MONTREAL could be a focus, in any case, and planning your next break there. It's like NYC with a FRANCAIS soundtrack, and cute, cute guys and YES it's even possible: cuter than you; you'll love it!! A QUEBEC~ boyfriend in the NEW YEAR : PARFAIT
Boredom can be a benefit, at least when you come out of it... Appreciatation of NYC for sure!
What you are experiencing is : SUBURBAN boredom, a life without people/activity;hugely artifiical. Not connecting with anyone or anything. Ergo..there you are in your room. ISOLATED/ ///
Get into a sociological head~ space, and just observe: Go to the best cafe in the downtown, take out...NOT YOUR LAPTOP (that is part of the problem) but a notebook, and write down your thoughts........
I once heard that only boring people get bored. You are definitely not boring, so think of something.... be creative! I'm sure you can. And share with us! Happy Holidays
I got the usual bottles of wine, T shirts, socks and another RC helicopter that doesn't really fly very well. We had two days of family visiting here, so it is kinda nice to have Sunday to chill out and actually feel bored!...hope that whatever you do, you have a great year ahead.
take it from me Enjoy your family and friends that are there with you. You can drive if you have a licnese most insurance covers the person driving the car Check the policy. NY will be there Enjoy life as it happenes for each moment Looking to the futurre you will miss the present
I think once you've tasted the NY living, you'll having troubles getting settled anywhere else. As for presents it wasn't much this year... and actually I'm feeling bored and miserable myself, living in this small village on the countryside near Brussels doesn't do me any good... I should better go on holidays, any suggestions? :-)
Guess you are not going to live in North Carolina when you get your Doctor's Degree and it is NOT legal to drive without Insurance. Obviously your heart is in NYC and until your heart moves elsewhere - that is where you will enjoy life the most. But your heart is also with your family. No need to stay long but as long as you are there, make life as good as you can for them. When you are gone, they will feel the way you do right now.
I have the same syndrome here... I live in a big city in France, and now I'm visiting my parents, and I'm so grateful they have internet because i'm dying !!!!!!
I lived in nY for many years, and most people who haven't been there have no idea what you're taslking about! anything you want, and it's convenient. people think I'm arrogant, or being a snob when i say this.,.....and reak food, not toned down to suit midwest taste
I totally understand, I lived in NYC for more than ten years. I still miss the convenience and the incredible food. But enjoy your time with your family. Everything changes faster than you anticipated.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Your videos dont make sense at all. Ohh please... Y would you say Hanukkah? Y?Y? Do you know how many jews are in america??? compared to other religions. No offance to any Jewish. I love them all but just saying.........
I woud hate to say I liked this video, then I'd be saying i like that you're bored...!?!?! I feel bad and can relate...with the blizzards in the midwest all I can do is catch up on youtube.
Wow,that was fast! I expected it but not this soon. The thing to remember when you visit home is to make the most of the time you have with your family. It is not about you being entertained every minute. When you are in the city I have no doubt your family misses you. Work on giving "of yourself" and making some memorable moments with those that really love you. I know it is tough because you are young but the things that REALLY matter are the people that love you. Play games, cook, paint, laugh!
Hey my mom is jehovas whitness so I don't get to celebrate holidays or birthdays which six, I HATE it!!!!!!! But I bought myself slot of stuff. Like clothes, music, and new speedos for the upcoming swim season in January( so excited). I'll be diving this year too, so I gotta have sexy speedos rite!! Lol. And I'm going snowboarding for the first time yaaaaaaasaaa!!!!!!!!
Wouldn't you still be on your parents car insurance policy at least until you either finish college or reach the age of 23. If your parents took you off the policy they could easily reinstate you for a brief period for when you are home on holidays. Also, if you can get to Franklin Street in Chapel HIll there's plenty of good looking people like yourself to party with. Other Gays may even recognize you from your videos. Start the Party!!!!
It depends on the policy of the car owner. My insurance allows "guest" drivers on a short term basis. I let a roommate drive my car for 7 weeks and i simply contacted my insurance provider to let them know. So each owner needs to simply check with their provider.
Bottom line, Its generally ok ,check the policy or a quick call to the provider and you should be set.
well i got a tool box as one of my gifts. Im gay what am i going to do with a tool box? Its like a straight guy getting a tiara. Where's he goina put it?
Wouldn't it be "New York City Withdrawal?" "New York City Syndrome" sounds dirty, anyways, sorry for the impulse to correct - not very holiday-like. And if you drive another persons car and god forbid something like a wreck happens and if they don't have full liability and medical auto insurance you will be responsible for all damages (or not . . . I like to make things up)
OMG, you're going to miss New Year's Eve in NYC! That's the place to be - you get to see the ball drop and sing with everyone at Midnight. I've never experienced it but I've seen it on TV & it's looks quite exciting.
Sorry you're bored but once you've lived in a big city like NYC everything else seems sleepy.
I'm in the same boat as u, cept Montreal's my NYC ... So bored here in my suburb and missing my bf... Grrr...just watch movies or read till u get back to "real life" lolll
For christmas my mom is taking me to see a little night music in new york on monday......so imma be there before you are : )
On the other hand, i sorta know how you feel. I'm moving to nyc late january, but until then I have NOTHING to do, and I don't know how to drive. Complete cabin fever. I can't wait for monday so I can get out of the house and do something exciting.
i could imagine it getting bored. Are there none of your old friends to hang out with? XD if you get exceptionally bored you should definatley watch buffy the vampire slayer XD trust me that would keep you entertained
Carl, as long as you have a valid license, 18 or over, and have the permission of the owner, you can drive. Some drivers may have restricted insurance because of past legal problems, but that is the exception to the law.
you are allowed to drive other people's car if you have a license. it is the car that is insured, not the driver. however, if the address on your license is the same address of the car owner, you need to be listed on their insurance plan. if the address is different you are covered. i had that problem too, and my parents insurance agent told me that.
not to sound childish but you are wrong. car insurance is sold to a person, but is affected to their car alone
if a friend were to be at fault in an accident in your car your insurance would pay for damages, not your friends
you can get insurance that does follow a driver, a non owner policy, but the insurance of the car's owner would pay out first. your plan would only cover costs if the owners plan isnt extensive enough to cover the entire cost of damage.
Hey there Carl, Glad you made it home to see your family for the Holidays. Sorry you find it boring now after living in New York. I've never been to New York, but it seems like it would be a nice place to see some time. Hope you enjoy your visit. Talk to you later. Sean.
I was initially going to go back to my school on the 3rd but am going back on the 10th now...my hometown is boring but I thoroughly enjoy merely hanging around my house...yay for being introverted!
Feeling this video. Just got back from vacationing in Hong Kong. Transpiration can get you anywhere you want to go, even to the most remote parts of Hong Kong. Not to mention something was always going on, now it's back to the suburbs. Realizing that I miss the noise of the city.
Sorry that you are bored at home, but that's great that you love nyc so much. I knew you'd enjoy going to school here and I'm glad that you are getting so much out of the city. It's an amazing place.
GOSH, i know, i live in north carolina, i moved here from japan (where trains take you anywhere you want pretty much) and i hate weekends sometimes because i can't do a damn thing, i dont get my stupid liscence until march. :/ and only 3 of my friends drive, and their always busy!!!
This reminds me of when I was in Chicago and the "EL". My school gave me a pass to use public transportation. Shock when I came home to Indiana. I want to go back to Chicago too.
A million things to do if you have the internet.
About to get my new record player and an adapter for my camera as a gift I wanted. It was not under the tree.

I live in north texas, 30 miles north of dallas. Crime here is almost non existent in Collin County. I'll take your word for it though.
beatlemaniacforever 2 years ago

BIG CITY's Suck Rocks!
akfunnyguy 2 years ago
You license is still valid, if you are insured, your insurance will carry over to another vehicle. Otherwise the vehicle must state other casual drivers on the policy. It won't get you in trouble with the law, but if something does happen, it could mean the difference between being covered or not. Buck up, you will survive.
SWAB737800 2 years ago
i posted yesterday and someone responded to me and said that i was wrong, they agreed with you. not to sound childish but you guys are wrong. car insurance is sold to a person, but is affected to their car alone
if someone were to borrow your car and be at fault in an accident your insurance would pay out and your premium would increase not theirs
a casual drivers policy involves someone who would not be covered under the insurance normally like your child.

Dear Carl:
Wouldn't you still be on your parents car insurance policy at least until you either finish college or reach the age of 23. If your parents took you off the policy they could easily reinstate you for a brief period for when you are home on holidays. Also, if you can get to Franklin Street in Chapel HIll there's plenty of good looking people like yourself to party with. Other Gays may even recognize you from your videos. Start the Party!!!!
Only the best,
Rick
Ricktheknive 2 years ago
It depends on the policy of the car owner. My insurance allows "guest" drivers on a short term basis. I let a roommate drive my car for 7 weeks and i simply contacted my insurance provider to let them know. So each owner needs to simply check with their provider.
Bottom line, Its generally ok ,check the policy or a quick call to the provider and you should be set.

Carl, as long as you have a valid license, 18 or over, and have the permission of the owner, you can drive. Some drivers may have restricted insurance because of past legal problems, but that is the exception to the law.
richard5jones 2 years ago
you are allowed to drive other people's car if you have a license. it is the car that is insured, not the driver. however, if the address on your license is the same address of the car owner, you need to be listed on their insurance plan. if the address is different you are covered. i had that problem too, and my parents insurance agent told me that.
Merry Christmas!
erw9886 2 years ago
No, you are wrong. In general, it is the driver who is insured, not the car. Drivers take their insurance with them whichever car they drive.
nexttsar 2 years ago
not to sound childish but you are wrong. car insurance is sold to a person, but is affected to their car alone
if a friend were to be at fault in an accident in your car your insurance would pay for damages, not your friends
you can get insurance that does follow a driver, a non owner policy, but the insurance of the car's owner would pay out first. your plan would only cover costs if the owners plan isnt extensive enough to cover the entire cost of damage.
