I'm a big fan of Doctor Who. And being french, the first time I heard Tennant saying 'Allons-y', I was like "OMFG ! The most amazing guy in the world is speaking my language, and turns it into something cool !"
EVERY, and i mean EVERY time i see this, i just feel like editing a trolls face onto his head, when he says, "have you got a problem with that?". Oh the epic greatness of a trolling time lord :)
god i loved this episdode...Astrid wouldve made a hell of a good companion...just like lady christina de souza...why do all the good companions have to die or leave?
Constellations are useless references since each planet, each section of space would have it's own. Constellations aren't scientific, nor uniform from all places in a solar system. At different areas of a solar system, different things are going to be visible or have their light dimmed from there. The idea that you could see a Constellation in another galaxy from surrounding galaxies on all sides is rubbish, unless he was speaking freely from knowledge of the skies of their worlds of origin.
@fgmPostApocalypticTV or he was referring to a constellation as a group of stars. It doesn't matter if the constellation looks the same or not, just as long as the same stars are grouped together.
@sdcurry2 But stars being grouped together is an optical illusion based upon where you're at in relation to them. Stars appearing to be grouped together, from earth, could be thousands or even tens of thousands of lightyears apart. Orion's belt, for instance, may have a couple of stars invisible from another solar system in this galaxy or any other and may have a star or two grouped with other stars to where those star groupings aren't in the same place in the sky for every planet.
@fgmPostApocalypticTV not really. spatial relation is not an optical illusion. You're thinking of a constellation as a sort of 'picture' formed by the way we see the stars. Groupings of stars in 3 dimensional space are also called constellations btw. For instance, our sun and the Alpha Centuri stars are considered a 'star cluster,' in other words, a constellation.
@sdcurry2 I'm not splitting hairs 'cause their visibility or apparent invisibility, depending on where you're at in relation to them, is based on so many factors related to space debris, things that get between you & them from certain angles that might not be an issue to other planets or other solar systems, the brightness & rotation of those stars & the relation to other objects that they have in their immediate vicinity to where gravity & other forces are at work with bending their light.
@sdcurry2 Any constellation for us could EASILY have 250,000 planets, black holes, brown stars, comets, moons, asteroids, nebulas invisible to earth, & worm holes surrounding each star on all sides, depending on how far it is & how far each star is in relation to each other & in relation to us. Each civilization represented, if the Doctor didn't choose his words SOOOOOOOO CAREFULLY, could have been close to a different 1 of each star in the constellation he referenced & not even understood him.
@theSpartan187 This is one of those shows that hires their own orchestra and composers, so though you could perhaps get the CD from this particular Series, doubtful you'd know the tune apart from having heard that CD at least once. This is the way tv should be done, instead of taking the lazy way of being free publicity for existing rock bands, as is often the case in US tv & even most US movies. If I ever get to do the tv shows I want to do, orchestra & composers are going to be nonnegotiable!!
I'm the Doctor. I'm a Time Lord. I'm from the planet Gallifrey. The constellation of Gastabarith. I'm nine hundred and three years old. But I'm the man who's gonna save your lives and all six billion people on the planet below....
See, I don't think Matt Smith could pull off that kind of authority. He looks too much like a 1940s secretary or underwriter or something and the way he carries himself....well, it just doesn't have that "Like a Boss" flair.
He still has his strong points, though. I like how his mouth can go a mile a minute like it can't keep up with his brain and his hand gestures are fun to watch.
God this bit was awful, along with the Man Who Never Would speech. Watch Eccleston in the "No" speech at the end of Bad Wolf if you want gravitas. This is just... bleurgh. Tennant really got shafted on the writing, shame cause he could have been one of the best. The one time they wrote his character somewhere interesting (the end of The Waters of Mars) they completely forgot about it the next episode :/
@drwhocenter2011 there was more that one series with tenant he was with Rose ( series 2) with Mather ( series 3 and I can't spell her name) and Donna ( series 4) so all I have got to say is alonsy (not to tenant of course he was brill I just felt like saying it)

OMG!!! That's my favourite part too!! The whole thing with the 1-b-d-iv is TYPICAL Ten getting all carried away in his excitement!!! How utterly adorable!! Plus, his dedication to humankind is nothing short of admirable!! Loove loove loove Ten!!
0:33 - 0:55 -> Now, see, why didn't he do that all the time? Whenever something was going wrong and people demanded to know who he was he'd just say "I'm the Doctor" (and/or "I'm clever"), and they would still bitch about why they should follow him. Mention that you're a 900+ years old Time Lord from Gallifrey who is the only being capable of saving these snivelling ingrates' lives, and that shuts them right up ^_^
@GreyDeyason All of the doctors have their differences. And matt's doctor is the doctor that is getting older and a bit slower. He isn't as daring a tennant but he has different qualities that I like.

I'm the doctor. I'm a time-lord. I'm from the planet Gallifrey, the constellation of Casterborous, I'm 903 years old I'm the man whose going to save your lives and all 6 billion people on the planet below. You have a problem with that? (No.) In that case, allons-y!
I love how each special they would reintroduce the Doctor and make it enjoyable for fans and non-fans alike. When the series started back up in 2005, I knew absolutely nothing about Doctor Who, and now I am a die hard fan. I've watched so many of the old episodes and specials. Thanks for inviting other people like me to be a part of this community and not be so bogged down in the history that it's impossible for others to enjoy the series.
I thought of Christ when he levitates ("Last of the Time Lords") and embraces The Master and then he forgives him. Also another Christ moment when he flies with the Hosts.
My Favourite part of this episode is when he meets Alonso.
"Whats Your Name?"
"Alonso"
"Your Kidding..."
"No.."
"Well Allons-y Alonso"
:)
Make me laugh because if you remember when he firsts starts using Allons-y, he says would it be great if you met someone called Alonso then you'd be able to say "allons-y Alonso"
903 years old? In Time and the Rani he was 953 years old? I suppose fibbing about your age goes as far as Gallifrey. My conclusion is he's too old and has too much on his mind to remember his exact age.
Nah, in my opinion there's no point in keeping completly consistent because when he travels through time and all that good stuff he's a different age every time he goes to.
I love how the sparks dramatically go off behind him at 0:34!

Uh, I loved this part as much as anybody, but lets cool this comparing a fictional tv character to the Real Deal.

@psxwarrior Spoil sport xD Besides, who's to say which one's the "Real Deal", eh?

I thought of Christ when he levitates ("Last of the Time Lords") and embraces The Master and then he forgives him. Also another Christ moment when he flies with the Hosts.

@mufcgazza2k7 That's the strangest way of spelling Coronation Street I have ever seen.

True but theres no doubting that Torchwood has delivered in it's own right.
In fact in my opinion Children of Earth was better than any of the 2008-2010 DW specials so far.

:D

903 years old? In Time and the Rani he was 953 years old? I suppose fibbing about your age goes as far as Gallifrey. My conclusion is he's too old and has too much on his mind to remember his exact age.

Nah, in my opinion there's no point in keeping completly consistent because when he travels through time and all that good stuff he's a different age every time he goes to.

I think it is funny when the Doctor in this episode says something like, "I'm still unsinkable."
