they are the same thing. BUT, UK garage was a slightly different sound coming out of london in the mid nineties and beyond, with harder beats more BPM and more in your face chord stabs and basslines, later evolving into 2step garage, grime, dubstep, the list goes on....
@Inglejuice i'm relatively familiar with most of the genre's you named except for 2-step. all i've heard from that really is Neighborhood by Zed Bias and a few remixes and they sounded relatively similar to regular house/garage.
2 step just means that instead of having a 4x4 kick drum.the beat is more broken up to give a different groove (usually with a kick on the first beat and just one or two more in a bar, but on the off beat). this was the most popular form of the genre between 1998-2001, after that the boundries are more blurred as the sound developed into what is now known as grime and dubstep. for a start look for music in that period from artists like mj cole, steve gurley and wookie.....
@Inglejuice thanks bro. i've made a few dub and dubstep beats and i've been wanting to make a 2step for a while now, you know just to complete the family tree, but always had trouble but i think you just helped me out.
so what exactly differentiates garage from house?
