you gotta remember a lil about history before you start criticizing Freddie's songwriting ability. heavy metal/long hair bands started becomin popular around this time and im sure Freddie was also tryin to find ways to crack into the American market like they did with The Game.
Don't get me wrong, i love Queen & Freddie, but i really think they declined in the 80s, Freddie's songwriting in particular. Come on, think of the songs hw wrote before Hot Space - Killer Queen, Somebody to Love, Bo Rhap, LOML, WATC, DSMN, CLTCL etc - all classics! (Not to mention the variety and quality of non-singles he wrote), but after The Game album, what classics did he compose?
This song sounds an awful lot like CLTCL, and It's a Hard Life sounds like Play the Game. Freddie clearly lost much of his creative ability in the 80s (though he was much better live then). You disagree with this, turps? :P
I don't think this sounds anything like CLTCL. Granted its the same style, but then most other artists play and sing in the same style allthrough their career. I think we've all become a bit spoilt with the variation of Queen's songstyles.
i disagree not matter which year Freddie's composing skills were awesome. and no matter how old he got or how sick those skills never declined, they got better. he had so many things to write about amd did such a good job doing it!
Freddie was also creative! That doesn't mean that all of his songs have to sound completely different. This song sounds like Crazy Little Thing Called Love but it's definetely not the same, and I like it more.
do you want to know some classics after the game???
the show must go on!!!!a kind of mafic, made in heave, heaven for everyone, i was born to love you, who wants to live forever, the most of his solo songs, innuendo, friends will be friends, etc........
The later ones haven't been around long enough (or had enough air-play) to be "classics" maybe they will maybe they won't - whatever - it's QUEEN and I like it!
And keep in mind CLTCL was wriiten in a bathtub, I think ya can allow the fact that Freddie enjoyed himself and could write whatever he wanted!
i dont have a favorite queen song. how can you just choose one? there are so many good ones.
