The mixture of mud/water is way denser than that kid so thats why he didn't sink all the way in until he started moving like an idiot and most likely died unless the cameraman got him out.

In his words, you float like a cork in it, so there's no way that what you see in old movies is real. The guy at 0:48 had only the mud up to his chest, or possibly even less, and he knelt down to make it look like he was sinking.

In cartoons it just snaps back whatever is stuck on it. However , and you gotta admit...alot of people would love to live out these fantasy predicaments.:)
