Thank you for making this video. I'm MSGT. Kelly L Hornbeck's oldest daughter. Finding this really made my day, especially so close to the anniversary of his death. Thank you very much.
I love reading all of these comments and seeing how well he was loved by his fellow soldiers. Things like that and this video mean alot to me. I can't even begin to explain how much I miss him. Everyday something happens that makes me think of him. But thank y'all for showing that he hasn't been forgotten.
We write scripts and books and children play with toys that are based on this guy. I knew him. He was the team sergeant of one of the best teams in our battalion - Operational Detachment Alpha 092 Maritime Operations - the scuba team.
He was a gruff, ass kicking giant of a man and yet he was cool and respectful.
May God bless you Master SGT and your family. Your sacrifice and the sacrifice of other soldiers and their families is and will never ever be forgotten!! Thank You for keeping us safe. You all and every soldiers are heros!!
He was my drill sergeant as well. I was devastated when I walked into the SF building on Ft Campbell and saw his picture there on the wall of casualties. He was a role model for many of us. My sympathies to his family, and know he was a positive influence on many lives of soldiers who wanted to be as good as he was at our chosen craft.
It's men like this that make me so fucking proud to be an American!!! Godbless You SGT. Hornbeck!!! Thankyou!!!! for our freedom!!!!!! What an Honorable man!!!
I met Kelly Hornbeck as a private at Fort Benning, he was my drill sergeant. He stood out from the others even then. My prayers are with his family and he will be sorely missed...
@TimmyHaag He belonged to ODA 092. I was part of a resupply convoy for his ODA during that seige. I was a support soldier for 10th GRP. He was hit by IED shrapnel, KIA on the spot. Vet to Vet, I'm happy to read your words on this video. Bless you brother.
@TimmyHaag Kelly Hornbeck died in January of 2004. He was on the Advance Team for the coming Battalion wide deployment. 063 was a 2nd Battalion team. Kelly was in 3rd Battalion.

Out of curiosity, when was the MSG assigned to USASOC? (I noticed the red patch).

Was he in ODA 063 ?
I got to Samarra around late February 2004 as a 21 year old SPC with a SAW as an 11B with C 2/108 attached to TF 1-26 of the 1st ID.
ODA 063 was made up of 10th SF guys and they were the coolest guys I ever met while I was in the Army.
Those guys were Gods to us piss ons.
What got him ? An IED on the Southern Bypass ? Or an ambush in Al-Kala maybe ?
If you are one of the SF guys that helped my platoon out on Easter Sunday 2004, from the bottom of my heart, thank you.
