I am getting a mac for Christmas and have only done my work on PC. And was wondering if it is hard to get it setup, connected to the mouse/keyboard etc. Please reply. Thank you.
I'm looking into switching to Mac and this 21.5 iMac is exactly what I'm thinking of getting. This was a great video, I like the range of things you talked about; really helpful :3
Hi Sir, I am young lady (not tech savvy in Mac but in PC) wanting to learn textile design with a $1400 budget would you recommend the 2011 Macbook Pro or Imac 21.5 inch. I will be using Adobe CS5 software on my mac. Please answer. Thanks
Hey I have a quick question! Do you think I'll need speakers if I buy the imac? I have the macbook Pro and I never need to use an external speakers but is the imac just as loud or even louder?
Hey I need some advice. I don't know which one to buy. iMac 21.5 inch or Macbook Pro 13 inch. I want a computer that I can record music for portability. But I know iMac is better. So which one?
why do you consider the boot up time, which differed by about five seconds, more important than the time it takes to perform actual tasks? I could wait five seconds longer for a home screen if it means my videos will load twenty percent faster. I cant see the issue there.
Hey man, great vid. I have a question and I hope you reply. I'm currently on a Macbook and am looking to upgrade to either the new Macbook Air, Macbook Pro, or iMac. I do a lot editing for my gaming vids, and run several applications at once. I would also like to do a small amount of gaming on my next Apple system. (WoW, Minecraft, CoD4) I don't NEED the portability of the Macbook, as my current one is on my desk 95% of the time. Which one should I get? Please reply, and thanks for your time. :)
@EndofLineProductions I would go with the iMac in your instance. Depending on how urgent you need it, you may wish to wait a few more weeks as the baseline macbook and macbook pro are due for refresh. The main umph coming out from this refresh will be the Sandybridge processors which will be of huge help in almost any area, especially editing and gaming. Not that the current iMac's will disappoint, if you feel that you can suck some more out of your current setup, it may be worth waiting
i already have a old macbook so there is no point in me buying a macbook pro, but with the imac 21.5 will there be a new model anytime soon? because i don't want to buy a $1500 imac and then there to be another imac out the next month.
Well, I'm definitely going for the iMac. Portability is not an issue and the speed should be more than adequate for my needs, which includes some video editing and image processing, but not to any great extent. It'll look bloody great in the living room too. This will be my first Mac BTW, and I can't wait for it.
Dude the book loads up faster because it's got a smaller hard drive and book loads like 3 seconds faster. Big whoop. The iMac starts up a tad slower because it's got a larger display, more powerful processor more ram and bigger hdd. Think of cars. Muscle cars start slower and gain great top speed while Japanese small cars are quick but lack power top end.
im getting one of these for christmas which one do u recommend more the imac or macbook pro im not gonna take them anywhere so i dont care for portability im looking for something to just use the internet and download music and use itunes and some computer apps like virtual worlds which would u recommend more i also wanto know if the macbook pro overheats if u use it longer then6 hours.
@VeryFunnyKid look im getting the imac soon and let me say this dont by a mac if you dont have to yes its apple wooohoooo but im buying a mac cause welll the features imovie and ilife thats a big seller for me just i do editing if you just going to get a computer for music internet use than buy a sony viao and save yourself 500 dollars vios are great for music very powerful
Good video mate im thinking of getting a macbook pro or a imac can u help me out what one is gonna be more better for music wise/producing and stuff..im so lost lol i want a macbook coz it portable and i can take it frm A-B but im not sure about laptops anymore coz i know computers are always better ....SOMEONE HELP !!! lmaoo thanks
I've actually just bought the iMac 21.5 inch but I'm now going to return it for either the macbook pro 15 inch or the iMac 27 inch. I really want something portable, but I think an iMac would look alot better in my studio and also with more display it's going to better for music production etc. Also it will run that bit faster!
I think i'm going to go for the 27 inch iMac and save up for a 13 inch macbook.
@URBANAMERICANTAC if you can wait, then i would advise to hold off as the iMacs are due an upgrade soon. If your going to be doing a lot of editing, its worthwhile going for the core i5/i7 versions (27"). But then again, the next revision for the iMacs may see the 21"''s getting the quads.
On the Apple® - iMac® / Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor / 21.5" Display / 4GB Memory / 500GB Hard Drive can you edit (MXF) HD files for short films with no problem? Otherwise i can buy a pc with double the power for the same price....SOmeone please answer? Thanks
more Ghz doesnt mean anything on boot up, i had a athlon x2 2.9ghz and it booted up faster than my phen II x4 3.4ghz, on boot up its the hdd, yess they may have the same on each, but on boot up the imac has to scan 500gb instead of 350gb
I need some suggestions, should I buy the iMac or macbbok pro, MacBook pro has great mobility but the iMac is really good for school and some other features.

i am planning on buying the 21.5" for my first machine in a about a months time, and i know you mention that there are minor bug fixes to be reviewed by apple like the screen flickering and the 'dog whistle', do you have any idea if those flaws have been seen to in the last few months, if not then im going for a macbook :)
What's best for HD video editing? I currently own a Hauppauge HD PVR and my current laptop isn't the best. Woundnt mind a desktop but what's your thoughts
@SkyshooterMatty for recording with the HD PVR, would recommend a 'mobile' unit so you could easily record it and then pick it up and edit on your workstation. Would recommend the Macbook Pro for sure. If you have the money, the core i5 will be of huge help in processing the video etc due to its zippy processor
@theunits3 my imac wouldn't be that far away from the hauppauge HDPVR if I got one, but the main thing for me is the quality produced and the time it takes. I am currently looking at the base and most cheapest models of both the Macbook (13inch 2.4ghz £999) and the iMac (21.5 inch 3.06ghz £969). I can provide a setup video for what I would like and where abouts they would meet
@SkyshooterMatty if its between those two systems - i would go for the iMac as its a bit more beefy with spec (the MBP does have the better graphics chip, dont think it will make a difference to u though). the imac does obviously have a bigger screen size which will be of huge help when editing.
@SkyshooterMatty lol, thanks. glad i could be of help. let me know how you get on and be sure to follow the video i made on the 'cheapest way to get an apple system'. a lot of savings to be made this way
I kinda want a mac because i produce beats, and i prevoopusly had a hackintosh but something went bad. I need to use logic pro 9, i might buy a mac minni because i have a 24" display already and i can use a KVM switch to swtich between my pc and mac. Because i also have an blackmagic intensity pro that can only be used on a pc, and i want to edit it with final cut poro. Hmm mac mini, or macbook. I woul buy an imac but theirs no room on my desk
Becuase of this you have made me want to get an iMac i was considering getting an iPad (£499) but i would rather spend more to get this(£819) just got £300 to go so hopfully in 2 months time i shall be rocking an iMac with you thanks for the helping me make my mind up
Hi, so I don't know which one should I get. I'm studying audiovisual media so I'm constantly working on videoclip and shortfilms, I do a lot of video editing with Final Cut or Premiere... so I wanna know if you recommend the MBP (13") or the iMac (21.5") The good thing of the MBP is that I can take it to school (wouldn't be that often) and the good thing I see for the iMac is the sizescreen, it's like heaven when you're editing haha (but it's not portable) Which one would you recommend me? Thnx
@MrBlessedCookie I'd consider MacBook Pro since they have gotten updated, but if you don't mind a desktop, get an iMac.. I'm getting an iMac next week, but I want a MacBook too. But thankfully, I will get a lot of money when I get paid by my insurance.
@SKshorts would deffo recommend the Macbook Pro. Throughout my life as a student, the Macbook Pro is an excellent system to have. I done my entire Masters thesis on the 13" macbook pro. Portability is the main issue when it comes to students - you can take it to lectures, library, classes etc. You could always get an external display and hook the MBP to that - that used to be my setup and it was absolutely BEASTLY.
im thinking of buying this but should i update my laptop to windows 7 from vista or just buy the iMac p.s i have wanted this computer for a while thnk if u can help
@And1boi94 give Mac a try, you can always give it back (ive yet to hear this from anyone). Test new things is my advice, you will be surprised how well Mac's work.
@theunits3 I am also looking forward to the new MBP. Only then i will decide between the iMac and the MBP. Might even wait for the new iMac. :P I am in no hurry. already got a MacMini. :D
if its for home use, go for the imac, it'll have better specifications for the pice, more hard disk space and, the convenience of a (great) mouse and keyboard, and of course that awesome 21.5" screen!
And later on if you want a portable device, you can get the iPad which really does all basic things in a descent manner for a much lower price than a macbook.
Good luck with your choise and have fun with the products!
@timons106 Actually, 8x dual layer superdriver is extremely slow. It's a mobile dvd burner/reader. Slot in is really comfortable, but really slow in apples case, it's 8x while the one in my pc is at 48x. Install a game or a big application on a macbook pro or an imac really takes a lot longer than on even a bit older pc =/ however, installing apps through dmg on a mac is insanely fast. but the readers are slow, think nothing else.
im looking to buy one, im planning on getting the 2nd best one the "21.5-inch: 3.06GHz" i also have a program (forgot the name) and ill be able to run snow leopard and windows 7 at the same time. i currently have a dell inspiron 1720 any more feed back on your imac would be great in helping me make my decision about buying one, thanks
Why you gotta put videos like this up?! LOL Your gonna make me buy the 21.5" iMac damn it! I am gonna try and get one probably this summer or before summer. I have a laptop with Windows 7 and love it but I love the Macs slick quick OS and all in one design. One question though can you upgrade stuff after you buy it say like the video card or the Ram or would I have to take it somewhere and have somebody do it! Thanks for the video!
Video cards can't be upgraded, but you can upgrade the RAM by yourself and it's really easy! on the iMac, on the bottom of the screen there are the speaker grilles, right in between them there is a piece that you unscrew to get to the RAM. It's really really easy and only takes 5 minutes.
Thanks very much for the review. I'm about to buy one exactly like yours. I'm wondering whether to get it with iWork installed or with Office for Mac. On the one hand, I think iWork might be better integrated with the Mac OS, but on the other I'll be moving a lot of files onto it that were first created using MS Office (2000) on a PC (Almost all text documents (i.e. Word) and Excel spreadsheets (v basic - nothing fancy). And they may work better with Office for Mac.
No worries. Office for Mac is kinda of slow and buggy IMO. iWork works a treat (I wonder why!) on the Mac. I would suggest you get iWork and download Open Office or some free universal office suite (which would cater for MS word files). p.s. if you really want MS Office, you might as well wait as a new one is round the corner apparently.
Well, 2.26 vs 3.06, same 3mb cache and same graphics card (NVIDIA GeForce 9400M with shared RAM) of which the Imac has double. Also, both have 7200rpm drives.
It seems as if the Imac should have more horsepower to start faster than the macbook pro. Actually theunits3 is spot on for the comparison of the two. And yes, the Imac did have a black backing in 2007.
haha just got mine for my birthday mate. i got the 21.5 just like yu so compared to the 27, its a wee bit smaller but still great mate ;) thanks for the review
that noise that you mentioned is the only thing that turned me off...
when I play games on an old CRT TV, it makes this REALLY high pitch noise, me and my sister can hear it, my parents don't really notice it... but I get such a painful headache from it... I am gonna go research it some... but do you think its just the one you bought?
The dog-whistle refers to the inverter sound from the top-left hand corner of the screen. The early IMacs are plagued with dog-whistles, yellow screens, scratched CD's etc...but the newer models seem ok now.
Nice video mate! Got myself an Imac 21.5 last Sat, it had the now infamous dog whistle! Swapped at PC World for another, guess what same problem! Great machine, shame Apple's QC is shit. After having PC's for 15 years I won't go back to a PC, love the OS etc..
Decided to stick with this Imac and not bother with a replacement...too much hassle. My mum can't hear the noise, so maybe it's just too high pitch for her lol! Glad I got 3 year AppleCare!
that is puzzling why the moe powerful machine is slower. the ram alone shoul make a large difference. i don know whether you said what the mac book pro was in terms of ram. im thinking into buying an imac for music and general school work. aswell as an internet browser that only i have acess to would be good. you should definately find tht the imac could do more computational tasks like runing logic aswell as several other programs at great speed compared to the macbook. that should be the case
Ok. But you did have the screen noise when you turn down Brightness? That is one of the Symptoms. You were Lucky to get a good replacement. There are a lot out there with issues. Thanks!
Hey great review - bought the imac a few days ago and have the same problem with the "dog whistle" noise at about 70% brightness. Did you ever get this resolved?
Hi, i love your reviews, you've got a great way of putting your point accross! Could you please do me a favour and let me know/check how well an average PC game runs on the iMAC 21.5inch (3.06Ghz, 4GB RAM, 256 shared memory- the default one!)
Please check any of the following games:
Crysis
GTA IV
Sim City 3
Or any other intensive game!
I would apprecite if you could do this on video. Thanks!
Does iMovie come preinstalled? Is it free when you buy the iMac? :)

Becuase of this you have made me want to get an iMac i was considering getting an iPad (£499) but i would rather spend more to get this(£819) just got £300 to go so hopfully in 2 months time i shall be rocking an iMac with you thanks for the helping me make my mind up
HarBar42 1 year ago
Hi, so I don't know which one should I get. I'm studying audiovisual media so I'm constantly working on videoclip and shortfilms, I do a lot of video editing with Final Cut or Premiere... so I wanna know if you recommend the MBP (13") or the iMac (21.5") The good thing of the MBP is that I can take it to school (wouldn't be that often) and the good thing I see for the iMac is the sizescreen, it's like heaven when you're editing haha (but it's not portable) Which one would you recommend me? Thnx

MrBlessedCookie 1 year ago
@MrBlessedCookie I'd consider MacBook Pro since they have gotten updated, but if you don't mind a desktop, get an iMac.. I'm getting an iMac next week, but I want a MacBook too. But thankfully, I will get a lot of money when I get paid by my insurance.
TheLuckAndLove 1 year ago
@SKshorts no probs, enjoy the system. it will for sure come in hand during your student years.
theunits3 1 year ago
@SKshorts would deffo recommend the Macbook Pro. Throughout my life as a student, the Macbook Pro is an excellent system to have. I done my entire Masters thesis on the 13" macbook pro. Portability is the main issue when it comes to students - you can take it to lectures, library, classes etc. You could always get an external display and hook the MBP to that - that used to be my setup and it was absolutely BEASTLY.

And1boi94 1 year ago
@And1boi94 give Mac a try, you can always give it back (ive yet to hear this from anyone). Test new things is my advice, you will be surprised how well Mac's work.

@theunits3 okay thnx guess i need to save up $1,599 AUSD

@And1boi94 Get an iMac. Win 7 is alright but an iMac will be something different. Plus it is the daddy of computers.

ipodzperson22 1 year ago
I would recommend that you want as the Macbook Pro lines are due to be upgraded, decide then. You'll get best bang for your buck.
theunits3 1 year ago
@theunits3 I am also looking forward to the new MBP. Only then i will decide between the iMac and the MBP. Might even wait for the new iMac. :P I am in no hurry. already got a MacMini. :D
abhinavr1985 1 year ago
@ipodzperson22
take the imac
kloppa123 1 year ago
if its for home use, go for the imac, it'll have better specifications for the pice, more hard disk space and, the convenience of a (great) mouse and keyboard, and of course that awesome 21.5" screen!
And later on if you want a portable device, you can get the iPad which really does all basic things in a descent manner for a much lower price than a macbook.
Good luck with your choise and have fun with the products!
h4x0y 1 year ago
@ipodzperson22 i suggest the new macbook white for 900!! or wait for the new macbook pro for a few month!!
iFrenky 1 year ago
Yes it has, it has a 8x dual layer SuperDrive. Which is extremely fast.
timons106 1 year ago
@timons106 Actually, 8x dual layer superdriver is extremely slow. It's a mobile dvd burner/reader. Slot in is really comfortable, but really slow in apples case, it's 8x while the one in my pc is at 48x. Install a game or a big application on a macbook pro or an imac really takes a lot longer than on even a bit older pc =/ however, installing apps through dmg on a mac is insanely fast. but the readers are slow, think nothing else.

Oh, I have forgotten that yeah! Thanks for reminding me again about the speed ;).

Whitegamer009 1 year ago
Video cards can't be upgraded, but you can upgrade the RAM by yourself and it's really easy! on the iMac, on the bottom of the screen there are the speaker grilles, right in between them there is a piece that you unscrew to get to the RAM. It's really really easy and only takes 5 minutes.
JoeyMurder 1 year ago
Thanks very much for the review. I'm about to buy one exactly like yours. I'm wondering whether to get it with iWork installed or with Office for Mac. On the one hand, I think iWork might be better integrated with the Mac OS, but on the other I'll be moving a lot of files onto it that were first created using MS Office (2000) on a PC (Almost all text documents (i.e. Word) and Excel spreadsheets (v basic - nothing fancy). And they may work better with Office for Mac.
HughJason 1 year ago

Thanks again. I'll take your advice.

why did you get the imac and not a 24'' led cinema display?
bchamorro 1 year ago
You idiot. Your comparing a LAPTOP and a desktop? wth? That's like comparing a Gamecube and a PS3. What the hell dude.
Of course the laptop is faster at booting because it doesn't need to boot up as much as the iMac.

Bootup more what?
MrClimberdave 1 year ago
Bootup a more powerful processor, and graphics card.
JoshKnightmare 1 year ago
@JoshKnightmare
And yes, the Imac did have a black backing in 2007.

that noise that you mentioned is the only thing that turned me off...
when I play games on an old CRT TV, it makes this REALLY high pitch noise, me and my sister can hear it, my parents don't really notice it... but I get such a painful headache from it...

Apparently a lot of LED displays have thisproblem
omadlom 2 years ago

that is puzzling why the moe powerful machine is slower. the ram alone shoul make a large difference. i don know whether you said what the mac book pro was in terms of ram. im thinking into buying an imac for music and general school work. aswell as an internet browser that only i have acess to would be good. you should definately find tht the imac could do more computational tasks like runing logic aswell as several other programs at great speed compared to the macbook. that should be the case

Have you had any Screen Flickers or Yellow Tinge on your iMac? I have the 21.5 & Have some Screen issues. Let me Know, Please. Thanks in advance!
Dino
vovtoons 2 years ago
Nope, the only issue that I had was a small noise from the screen. I have since then replaced it with the 27" (no issues thus far).
theunits3 2 years ago
Ok. But you did have the screen noise when you turn down Brightness? That is one of the Symptoms. You were Lucky to get a good replacement. There are a lot out there with issues. Thanks!
vovtoons 2 years ago
its not actually a unibody, i thought that at first, but if you look very, very very closely, you can see some very well consealed lines
TheMattist 2 years ago
Hey great review - bought the imac a few days ago and have the same problem with the "dog whistle" noise at about 70% brightness. Did you ever get this resolved?
atlantadavey 2 years ago
Hi, i love your reviews, you've got a great way of putting your point accross! Could you please do me a favour and let me know/check how well an average PC game runs on the iMAC 21.5inch (3.06Ghz, 4GB RAM, 256 shared memory- the default one!)
Please check any of the following games:
Crysis
GTA IV
Sim City 3
Or any other intensive game!
I would apprecite if you could do this on video. Thanks!
