  • Well, perhaps not really the classical "glamour" look, but I think Jean-Francois O'Kane's videos are among the best explained and demonstrated here on youtube. Unfortunately his DVD's are rather expensive, so I haven't had the chance to watch any of them yet. for the price of two of his pricier dvd's one could actually get a decent softbox with grid. No offence.

Additional Info: For a single flash head with a 21'' standard reflector and honeycomb grid your model should have very good skin.

  • the light is very bad controlled.

  • @Sykeye7 your face is very bad controlled

  • @iwantsquareballoons a retarded reply of course...first,learn the basics about studio lighting, then bark at me

  • you got the gears, but I dont see you are using it at its full potential.

  • Champ, you need to drop your exposure to make that lighting work .. your just exposing a normal photo.

  • Check out Camera Mount Clamp dot com

  • niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice video (^_^)

  • huh? video has ended and I yet to see a glamour look...

  • @marcin97 same...where's the glamour part?

  • Never touch the model.

  • @tomcat39843 mmm why not? As a photographer you need to be able to reach and touch the model to let her know what position you like better so you can achieve the look you are looking for in a much faster maner. Also you need to keep in mind that you need to ask first in a very polite way and touch very little just to guide her and if she sais it makes her unconfortable you need to be professional enough to take it.

  • what's the name of the music in the first part ? from 0:00 to 2:28

  • The background is not lit up.

  • tae nan yan

  • Glam look / fail

  • In soviet russia photo take you!

  • Do you really have to use the flash on your camera? Wont it affect your lighting set-up? Just wonderin'.

  • one thing that i got from this vid, this man is an expert nude photographer..

  • great video but you need to talk to us about the lights

  • em.. it was not look glamour at all. The model looks like she just woke up in that picture. :( look so dark and prolly you should change the model or use make up on her face.. the picture quality look so bad like amateur portrait but the video quality its very awesome and clear.

  • Kazashka 4to li? :)

  • @fLyIrok nu vrode by :)

  • "morning light"? to me it looks more like late night, after drinking

  • If you like photography look up AliyaRose Photography on facebook! Super cool!

  • the out of bed looks sucks

  • If I'm overexposing on the face, I prefer doing a white background. Not all that impressed with this effect. Then again, it may be because of YouTube's low-res compression..

  • "Just a big... **fluff** loose hair..."

  • Way to much flash.

  • Please Click on me (alexbongo1) to see my Photo's- My Photography. These are great tips by the way! :) i want to do more portraits

  • BOOB 2:44 top right picture XD

  • @MrGoofygoober117 Hell yeah!

  • andwestuk needs to comprehend the English language better before he goes on a rant. This is TWO light portraiture. It is the number of lights that are fired in order to take the image, regardless of whether they are solely on the Model or aimed somewhere else. IF a Reflector was used to light the backdrop, then it would have been a ONE Light Portrait.

  • It's really truth that the secret of photography is light!

    Carlo

  • Shadows are too harsh on left side. If working with harsh light it's best to make sure the shadows don't fall back on the model's face.

  • End result = awful.

  • Great post thanks. Not big on the "out of bed look" but in this case... great tips

  • does this model do nudes?

  • this guy is so boring to listen to.

  • Don't get me wrong, but my opinion is, that the shadows on the left side (right side of models' face) are too harsh. I do not really like that. Anyway, I do understand, that is is hardly possible to bring out another result with only one light on the model. Just my two cents...

  • @MrSonnenschein Actually there are several looks one could achieve with that single light depending on what additional modifiers are used. The grid spot gives you a hard light with rapid fall off. A softbox would yield a totally different look as would a ring flash or a beauty dish or an umbrella, etc.

  • she's cute!!

  • Q. How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb?

    A. 1000. One to change the bulb.... and 999 to say they could do it better!

Give the guy a break, he has gone thru a lot of effort making a video to pass on some knowledge to those who dont know how to do it. If you think you can do better... go make your own effin video showing HOW YOU do it better and dont bother watching videos made by others. Simple.!!!!

  • wwhat a bear

  • these photos would have looked much better without the background lighting... they photos lose the dramatic effect with the bright background...

  • Excellent Work guyssss

  • Help!!!

I just bought a battery grip for my Canon T2i. I have two batteries. One is the Canon OEM Lithium Battery that comes with the camera. And another one is a different brand. The Canon battery has 7.2V and the other one is 7.4V. Do you think these two batteries could come together in the grip? Will it not damage my camera?

I asked this because one of amazon customer said he bought a battery that's 7.4V and it's giving him wrong battery life bars in the cameras LCD.

  • This might sound really stupid but where is the flash coming from? The soft box or the strobe?

  • Can U use the model light on a strobe for video?

  • @anita189 Not really, modeling lights aren't very bright it's mostly just for seeing where the light falls before it flashes

  • @oddjob i guess it would be better if he used young french girls?

  • i dont understand there is just one light on the model and the background light, but when he took pictures there was a flash, ? but he uses continues light?

  • how do you photoshop this effect? and if you want the darkness more intense that takes up like half the face...is there ANYWHERE that i could find how to do it?

  • @godislovewoo I'd say use a snoot !

  • @sorabsorab sorry...what is that?

  • @godislovewoo Yes it's posible I'm actually working getting the same effect using photoshop...I even take myselft a picture in the same angle as the model hehe, it's s combination of various effects and I'm still researching how to do it =P

  • I think Zack Arias explain this technique with "OneLight" much easier. Thanks anyways.

  • thank you for uploading

  • probably using wireless flash trigger.

I would have used the honeycomb or maybe even a snoot for a rim lighting effect and just have a big softbox at 45degrees on the model. ;)

  • Didn't learn a whole lot, was mainly wondering what f-stop difference he has over the two lights. All he says is the backlight is a dimmer light than the main light - well I guessed that much :(

  • great

  • It's not important! :)

A lot depends on the distance between the light and the model/background. Just do it on the set, in 1 minute you're ready to go, according to the result YOU desire :)

  • @chris7626 he is using a flash for backfill only coming from the models right hand side.

  • I'm not really understanding the flash sequencing clearly, i believe. Is the camera's built-in flash being used at the same time the picture is taken? if so how does that not expel the light from the other sources?

  • Thanks....

  • anyone know the name of the song?

  • does the main light fires too? or is just continues light?? please some one help.

    /

  • Are you talking about the light that is constantly on her? That's just a test light built into the flash unit. There are usually two bulbs on a studio flash, one powerful bulb for the photos and the less powerful test light.

  • it's tethered or more likely radio connection so it fires when the transmitter on the camera tells it to.

  • gr8

  • Great thnx

  • I guess the statement that you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink is still valid. Sheesh

  • He says in the video he has used a softbox on the background. In the title it states "one single light ON the model" so whats the problem with your understanding of English. He could be using 4 lights on the background but the title would still be a valid statement. ONE light ON the model. Read and understand before you start screaming and crying

  • I don't really care, but it looks like there is a light for the background, a light for the face and then he also uses a flash which does hit her face. 3 Light sources.

  • Hello!?

There's only ONE light on the model.

The softbox doesn't hit her face and he even says that in the video.

There is only one light on the model, which is the light you see flashing when he takes the shots. There's no second flash.

  • @andwestuk screaming and crying? just have a drean killing him or some thing

  • @andwestuk

    idiot...

"Achieving the glamour look using one single light source."

  • @andwestuk and yet the description says "one single light source"

  • Funny how you guys think you discovered a second light, he says that hes using the softbox to light the background in the video. then the one on her face. They title this wrong for sure.

  • there's a lot of shadows on her face

  • Comment removed

  • yeah, if you scrub the time line, you can see at 00:19 seconds a small softbox illuminates the backdrop... :(

  • @ZuluRose haha, genius and eagle eye! he actually SAYS that too... the point is that there's only one light on the model. as it says IN THE TITLE... sheesh!

  • this is basic stuff! if you buy a set of smith victors you will get the same instructions that this guy used for this video.

  • Thats one way of doing it.

Photographers I know can't seem to get away from

their flashheads,I think its about getting a good F-stop and detail.

  • i like the music

  • i love the model shes freaken cute hot as well

  • nice french canadian accent... hahaha

  • the lighting looks better in the video than the stills

  • i agreee totally.. hahh

  • @wonderwolfdog he also says one light but there are two ..in reality ..the modeling light and the flash ..both play a factor ...

  • @wonderwolfdog whaaaat? no way

  • @wonderwolfdog I think it's because the chick isn't very attractive.

  • So, there's a main light on the subject, and another light illuminating the background. I don't know, maybe my math is off, but I count two light sources, not one.

  • Description says one light on the model.

  • Yeah, your math is definitely off.

  • The man is right, 2:02 you can see a soft box with grid in distance.

  • mmhh I noticed how he used flash even though he's using one light source... thanks this is helpfull

  • Not bad! I'm interested in glamour photography and could learn a lot from these vids. Thank you.

  • simple but elegant... very good i learned a lot
