  • at 1:21 he hits a footswitch! Fucking brilliant! always wondered how they cued that stop!

  • @yoursaxman

What does the foot pedal do?

  • @underwwraps2 The Footswitch sets off the tape of the telephone ringing.

Same with the girls talking.....and all other sound effects that ever happened at a Tull show, Ian was in charge! lol

  • incredible

  • I love this video! thanks very much!!

  • nice cod piece, brilliant flautist

  • This is a holy grail of live Jethro footage, when they were the best live band on the planet (as well as the best studio band at that time as well, IMO. I saw them in Tuscaloosa in April 1972 about a week or two before Thick as a Brick was released and quickly realized the entire album was one giant song! Spectacular, ambitious, audacious. I welcome any live footage pre-1978.

  • the first time they played thick as a brick live was at malvern winter gardens.

  • Some trivia for you fans. The first time Tull played/unveiled Thick as a Brick was in the Spring of 72' in Knoxville TN at the UT Stokely Athletic Center. I know this cause I was there on the 4th row, and like everybody else tripping my balls off.

We all knew there was a new album due out, but nobody knew any details. We were treated to about a 3 1/2 hour performance that was mindboggling and historic. Thick as a Brick went on sale the next day nationwide. Its still the greatest concert ever.

  • Any chance anyone will ever take all this great footage, which hasn't circulated in any of the circles I've been in, and piece it together a la that fantastic effort to put together a complete Lamb Lies Down On Broadway show?

  • This is the premier Tull ensemble. I want to kick Ian's ass for disbanding this genius lineup.

  • Check out Jeffrey Hammond. lol. That guy knows how to be a rock star. This is his pre-zebra look. This is freaking AWESOME!!!!!!

  • it's quite a mish mash of footage all at once but classic footage

  • top ov the progs!.

  • not bad for 8mm shoots ,,

  • ABBA is in the r@r hall of fame and Tull isn't

  • Gr888888888888888888888 post...thanx...

  • Great job capturing good quality and e

ssence of the best of Tull concert in 72.I was there.

  • Jeffrey looks completely different without his trademark moustache and goatee...

  • This is great! I wish I had a time machine so I could go back and see a show like this! Jethro Tull back in the day was off the hook!

  • I've always been a Martin Barre fan.

    Great Les Paul-er.

  • is that Jeffrey Hammond-Hammond on bass??

  • An old bootleg called "Ticketron" Recorded in Virginia at the Scope in April of 72. From 3:52 to 6:04 is Toronto in June of 72

as that part was edited out of the Ticketron recording. Shame as that is a great performance and great sound. That recording also has an excellent entire encore Wind-Up/Guitar solo(the best)LocomotiveBreath/Wind-Up reprise.

  • @darincody i had that Ticketron boot... this is wonderful! that instrumental bit at 3:50 is amazing- Evan just SHINES! and when Jeffrey announces "Ian is playing a rhythmic link sequence consisting of alternating bars of Cm suspended 7th and D major... (i forget) resulting in percussive counter rhythms..." it all came flooding back. Any chance of getting a copy? please?!?!?!?

  • @yoursaxman PM me.

Ian had an array of footpedals and swicthes to trigger the tapes that played. Foot pedals for his delay, speed and volume.

Not quite as many as "yoursaxman" has but enough for 1972..... "Cm sus4 and F maj"!...."The guitarist, the drummer and I myself will blend and aspire towards our eager participation in anticipation of the orgasmic sensation to follow......." ;-)

  • I love seeing this thrilling video once every few weeks. It cheers me up!

  • Great work!!! Thank you for your efforts. I echo others who have said more!!!. Saw the 1972 April show at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium. the band slipped on the stage as stage hands. Captain Beefheart was the opening act. It was an amazing night of entertainment. Doubt this would happen but I would love to see a Thick As A Brick tour where they did the entire album. They always did bits and pieces after this tour and it never was quite enough. Thanks again!!

  • Thanks very much.

I too remember all those trenchcoated stage hands, in LA, walking back and forth setting up and after a while they were JUST walking back and forth and from the back walking through the rest, one came towards the front of the stage, pulling his cap off and all that hair came spilling out, Anderson, then the rest revealing themselves as the band. I always loved Ian's entrances.

  • @darincody that was a great show. and quite an interesting entrance to the stage. moments before they removed the trenchcoats, the crowd up front was starting to figure it out. just classic!

  • @GHeuett - Dang....Jethro Tull on the Brick tour with Beefheart opening. Too much! Too bad I was only a wee lad of three in April '72.

  • Jeffrey Hammond looks so different here than he would just a year later...

  • Man talk about exciting! Beautiful work, Tull brother!

  • Wow, how did you do that!

I have these videos and have always wondered what music was happening around 3:55 on

It totally looks like it belongs. Too bad there's not more.

excellent job. Thanks for posting that. Do more!!

  • Obviously we've seen this 8mm footage from Buffalo and Rochester before... but you REALLY cleaned up the image BEAUTIFULLY. This is the clearest I've ever seen it. WOW. Do you have special software to do that?

I'd love for you to clean up that Minstrel in the Gallery acoustic part from 1975 that I have.

  • I apologize Paul, I mean't to reply to your more recent nice comment and I accidentally hit remove! Sorry, don't take it the wrong way! You mentioned zooming in and staying in focus...

I don't do any zooming. I think your seeing a transition from a further video to a closer video. Same thing was happening on both so I just faded to the close up view. But thanks for the nice comment.

  • I've hit the REMOVE button by accident myself a few times. LOL So no offense taken.

You did a GREAT job with this footage. And you did a GREAT job with that pristine Houston footage. I still want to send you my acoustic opening footage for Minstrel in the Gallery (from Paris July 1975).

  • Send me an e-mail and we'll make arrangements.

  • !!!!!!!!!!

This is the best TAAB sync I've seen on Youtube, YET!

    SUPERB job!

    Thanks again, so much! Nick

  • Thanks very much, glad you enjoyed it. Your enthusiasm and hard work are inspiring.

  • Hi (Its Nick).
