Based in the UK I would often come up against the US players...my poor modem 120 ping wasn't up to the job :)

Then came ADSL and I rocked it...lol

I reeeeeaally miss those days.

wish i could go back years ago, when there were packed RA2 servers every night. RA2 has been all but dead for a couple of years, and quake2 itself is not far behind. :(

@entropy44 at least its lasted that long where you live. Its been dead for a long time in Australia. I remember quake 2 as my favorite gaming moments. I also remember waiting a long time for ra2 on dial up! hah! the memories!

I definitely miss it this, Q3 RA3 was a big change and was fun at times but it will never come close to q2 ra2, rail only ra2 on heat.net was the best ever.

Haha, i imagine this helped to increase the fps to a modest amount on a poor machine. How else can you aim the railgun so well. Damn i swear that the so called Call of duty games are nowhere near as fun or as skillfull as q2 & q3.

Well the game is old but I did reduce the graphics to very low and made the skins white & crystal blue to see them easier. I didn't play the game for just the aesthetic quality :).

Quake 2 did have the best netcode and movement. it's a shame the game got hacked to death :( But I think Quake Live is very fun and is now my new addiction.

Man I wish I could rewind time and play Q2 RA2 online all over again. The lan parties and online competitions were intense..fun times. I used to be part of clan TALON based out of the bay area in California.

i used to be really into it about 7-8 years ago, playing on my shitty pentium-II computer.

at least the tastyspleen dm server is still around, that server never seems to die...

You can always play Quake Live. I played it half a year ago for about a year it was ok. But if you haven't played Quake 3 before (I didn't but adjusted) you are pretty much dead in the water since everyone in the game will have 10 years more experience then you.

@someguy8383 Yeah, major shame, I've still not found a game I've enjoyed so much - although I was far too addicted to it. The Q2 source is open source now so someone should re-jig the graphics of it to be more update but keep the physics the same (which is where Q3 failed), and preferably allow the mods to still work without changes.

Wow! RA2 is the best fun I've had (with my computer)... started out with Duke Nukem 3D Coop on 56k modem (shooting mirrors)... to Quake 1 FFA, to RA2 to RA3... Are these vintage games now? Man I'm gettin old :(

@donkeykongcountry95 The closest thing would be the chaingun... No beam to use for aim assistance but rather a nice big red mist of blood and gore along with the oh so sweet sound..... I get sentimental just talking about it :)

Heh I did lose some other maps, but some odd connection went on with me and Q2DM1. Several times I would be down 4-5 frags in teh last round and would end up winning by 1. I remember I used to always tell myself I never lose on this map, and never did. I stopped playign Q2 for a couple years and joined again, and immediately won it again. Some things you never lose.

Q2DM1 is the most fantastic map created in all of FPS gaming history.
