@eric8542011 BP's HQ is in Houston, Texas. It isn't even called British petroleum anymore and is mainly owned by Americans and the fault of the spill was on poor equipment and low quality cement owned and operated by the American sub-contractors. I really don't see why people are linking the spill to Britain at all. Btw England is only one country in Britain, they're 3 more (Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland).

So it's the governments fault that a company blatantly disregarded safety in its business practices? I agree that stricter regulations should be put in place help to prevent such incidents from taking place, but a company should always be putting safety and environmental protection at the top of their priority lists. BP failed to do that and, in turn, affected the livelihood of millions and poisoned a vast expanse of marine habitat.

That is their no.1 priority & we shouldn't be so ignorant 2 believe that they wud think anyway differently. That means it is the governments job to make sure the industry follows environmental safety by regulating industry. The govt failed to do that, because the less regulations, more oil= more money at a larger risk. And BP didn't own or operate the failed equipment.

This is the 21st century, and corporations need to be held accountable for their actions. You can place blame on the government for enabling the crisis to take place, but that doesn't deflect blame from what BP did to cause it. The construction of the rig was rushed and warning signs were ignored in the lead up to the explosion.

Their orders circumventing safe practices leading up to the blowout led directly to that blowout. BP has more safety violations than all the other major oil companies combined.
