I worked for these JAGOFFS!!!!!!!!!!!!! in pittsburgh for over a year and a half they returned my loyalty with false accusitations and tried to fire me for a false sexual harrasment claim they sucked and paid shit wages 8.50 an hour to take kid's crap at a local mall these people are not babysitters . I work for Alliedbarton, I walk 7 to 9 miles a day around a College Campus. I love my job. I make $12.50 an hour and Dont have a boss hanging over my shoulder the entire time and I get to be outside. Its a great job and a great potential career.
I work for them 8 years now and I'm stuck in this hellhole of a company...I am forced to work along side racist people and after 8 years of loyalty I've gone from 10 buks to only 11 buks an hour..that's crazy!
I just started working for allied barton i work at the miami international airport i make 13.50 a hour but they only give me 32 hours i dont get no benifits untill 1 year then they give me 35 hours a week no raise. I'm about 4 weeks new here to this company with almost 14 years of experience I Get paid every week and my check range from 800 to 1,300 a week. I didn't know there was a dark side to the company. My site supervisor was doing immoral and unproffesional things, such as lieing on another company's housekeeping staff to get them fired to fulfill a personal vendetta. Not only that but his wife was working beneath him and doing as she pleased, both are pieces of work. I use the 800 number to report him, they do an "investigation", nothing is done. Of course unless you count removing me from the site and not putting me anywhere else, 2 months later nothhing

Allied Barton is a very disreputable company. I have worked for them for about three years and have nothing but complaints. They do not treat their workers with one iota of dignity, as it was said once at my job sight “guards are a dime a dozen”.
I have never been so financially unstable in my entire life. If given the chance I would put in my resignation tomorrow effective immediate, but like many in my situation we are unable to afford that option. Many individuals at my site are not allotted breaks and find themselves working eight hours straight.
@QBlackDeathQ I worked for allied in MA and by law, anyone working 6/7 hours are required to take a 15 minute break. 8hrs or more, you're required to take a 15 minute break and a 30 minute break. I think the main problem is from the executives and amount of interest you show when doing your job. If you get there just to do your job and show no passion then they wont be supportive to your needs. If you go there and provide great customer service to the customers...it will pay off

All lobby security officers (L.S.O) at my site are made to stand for five hours straight on a hard floor while wearing dress shoes. The L.S.O supervisors do not find it within themselves to execute due-diligence when one of their subordinates requests a 10-7 or bathroom break, therefore these subordinates find themselves “HOLDING IT IN” for up-to two hours.

I work for allied barton and my site in a housing development pays around 200,000 a year for security, and they pay 7 security guards 8.00/hr for 40 hours a week a piece which amounts to about 116,480/ where do you think that other 80,000 is going ????
The last company I work with was FJC security services , They hold accounts with the port authority , george washington bridge, the world trade center , and there unionised , unlike the criminals of allied barton security who would have there security guards work for 5 bucks and hour for a lifetime if they had the chance. Trust and believe I work with these people they dont care about there employees , they change account managers like day old socks , they get fired quick

If you have a gun permit guard card, baton and chemical agent permit with a secret clearance or higher you can make good money on government contracts.
I had one site that had me mopping a floor ones ? , I had one site that told me I take out the garbage after my shift ? I like your advice, wish I could've met you back when I did security. I knew coworkers who would steal, sleep on the job, damage property, threaten people, and for some reason they seemed to last just as long as the honest ones. In fact, it was often the good guards who were viewed as troublemakers for "ratting out" the bad guards or reporting problems.
The fact is, here in the US unless you have a signed contract with your employer, you don't have a "job description". They can tell you to do pretty much anything they want, or fire you for any reason (or no reason) at all. So if the client's not happy, out you go. As a guard, I was required to empty ashtrays, for crying out loud :-/

Did you guys no that in switserland the security guards train side by side with police officers, and before there hired to work , that have to be train for 4 mothns and every year they have to do 3 weeks additional training anually ? why cant america do that , ILL tell you why because is a greedy corrupted who worship the money like it was god !
The US has different kinds of private security guards, with different levels of training requirements. An unarmed guard who does nothing more than stand at a gate, check IDs and fill out a log book doesn't need the same type of training (or get the same rate of pay) as an armed guard protecting a bank or driving an armored car, or a store guard who has to arrest shoplifters.

One site had me emptying ashtrays, LOL. Later at another place when I became a desk sergeant/console operator, I thought I had it made. Nope. That just meant I took twice the amount of shit from the other guards, because I had all the responsibilities of a manager but none of the authority. Guys were sleeping on the job, breaking things, were over 20 minutes off schedule on their tours. I reported them to the fucking site supervisor but he never did a goddamn thing.

As a matter of fact, I have seen that, as well as the guard being required to refuel and maintain (aka auto repair) fleet vehicles, make coffee for their client, and do the client's personal business OFF property in the guard's own car with no renumeration other than "be glad you have a job". The guard's job is whatever the client says it is at any given moment..legal, ethical, or not.

Let me tell you something I work with these corrupted rats , like 2 years ago and I use to work in a site that at the time I arrived it was due a raise of 5 bucks and that was on the orders of the clients ! becuase they loved the security guards that work there ! the site was a gated community with millionares . Long story short allied barton gave us nothing but 50 cent raise and they stole the rest . I moved from them and now worked with a company with a union.

@hursti05 Contract guard companies are vendors that provide bodies to accept liabilty for their customers and to satisfy insurance requirements. Guards and guard supervisors at a certain level are product and are expendible...they are supposed to be. When a guard company CEO meets with his/her branch management, all they want to know is how much money you made the company. Everything else is irrelevent. It is NOT a career, it is a TEMPORARY job. It isn't designed to be.

@hursti05 I agree with you. But you have to remember this: there is very little real security that a contract guard does in most cases. It is considered unskilled labor and is treated as such. All contract guard companies work in the same general way. I'm not saying that it is right or fair, but they are what they are and always will be what they are. Don't think of it as a career. The average employment of a guard or manager is 3 years tops, after that, you're on borrowed time with them.
Strange how those executives don't take into consideration the amount of money security guards SAVE their company by preventing fire, theft, preventing safety hazards, etc.
@logik316 A contract guard service is like an insurance policy; to deflect the majority of liability off the client. In other words, a scapegoat. Most of what you described could be done just as easily and cheaply by technology. I understand where you are coming, though. An unarmed guard (or even armed) is to DETER criminal activity, not prevent it. I have sat across the table from both clients and guard company execs and with few exceptions, they have a very low opinion of the people in it.

Allied Barton, Securitas, Staff Pro, CSC and all the multi million dollar security firms are all the same. These companies charge from $18 to $50 an hour per security guard and pay minimum wage your lucky to get $9.00 to $12.00 an hour. all these firms only care about one thing the CLIENT. avoid these companies.. i recommend working as an in-house guard
I worked for this company for almost 3 years and I can honestly say it was the worst job I ever had in my life. I saw our manager throw a keyboard at another employee...the wages was low, no benefits, and they screwed the employees any chance they got.
Unionize, its your best option. You will always end up with low wages, Allied Barton will continue to keep you around 8-12$ an hour, you will never know exactly how much the client is paying for each security guard, but at this time, Allied Barton has the worst Benefits in this country. At least if you Unionize you will get health care coverage that you can USE, and maybe some tuition fees paid for while working at Allied Barton. Deduct 20$ a month for union fees, but get health and education
Thank God I've advanced in life and no longer have to put up with Allied Barton's bullshit. The office personnel in Deerfield Beach, FL have no respect for anybody and lie constantly. Rick Root had me make 3 in vain road trips up to DFB to pick up the firearm for carrying on-site. He failed to show every time. The health insurance AB offers is a scam and all that money gets taken out of your check and funneled right back into the company!!

Training day was drug test day. It was 4 hours unpaid and got uniforms that day. Not all applicants passed drug test. Driver license required to be a supervisor. Supervisor made me take cap off and makes me wear cheap black nylon pants. We dont have a time clock, supervisors add our hours up. Our DAR are our paperwork and not the clients. This company is horrible. When I worked for them I was made to work 45 to 60 hours a week for almsot 3 months because of the high turn over rate and lack of manpower. No respect for their employees. I finally quit when they denied my vacation even though I gave 2 months in advance and was told that I would get it. Avoid this company if you can. At 3:20 this happened many many times with clients wanting us to arrest shoplifters.
as I felt would happen due to the way they treat their officers, it happened today. They fired me without justifiable cause. It happened to a co-worker of mine, and today they fired me for a minor event that they never explained to me in their loads of papers or retarded training class. Message me for details. I worked for Allied Barton for 20 months. I am a floater. Sometimes I finish my work day and have another shift in 8 hours. My coworkers are lazy uneducated housing project welfare case losers. They should not hire anyone without a drivers license or older than 60. We can be fired at will, no reason needed. I tried to get act 235 but failed vision part of physical. No lunch breaks or sick days here.

Yah, AB is bad. I was at a site that switched from Securitas to AB. I thought Securitas was bad, man I was wrong. Insurance went from less than 20$ to 240$ a month and thats with "union" dues on top of that. Oh and for every 10$ per hour a guard gets they get closer to 30$ not 18$.

this company sucks I spent almost 3 years with them, they send you to the most worst sites you could imagine , they never give anyone a raise and the account manager always eats up all the money , I use to work in a site were te owners gave the security the guards a raise were w were supposed to received a 5 dollar increased . but allied barton step in and took all the money and we ended up just getting a 50 cent raised . there nothing but rats and the scum of the earth

I was once employed with allied. It all comes down to the dollar with them. I cant speak for all regions being they are all over the us. In all honesty coming from a worker that they raped in several ways you could not imagine they are one of the best security companies to work for. They have a lot of support for account managers. If the guards have a problem they should really try to better their lives and learn from the experience and move on.

I work for Allied Barton myself, and I dont see it as a bad place to work for. I have a pretty decent little setup. As for the gentleman that got hurt, you were chasing them, and they are completely against that anyways. You should never chase anyone, cause we are not cops. So that would be your own fault for doing an unauthorized step as such. As for pay, they pay more than most security places. What do you expect from a place that does not require a college degree of some sort.

As of today 3/1/09. Philly JWJ has gotten 50%+ guards at the Philadelphia Museum of art to sign union cards. Union organizing is an extremely difficult process. This campaign is run on a worker centered, grassroots, model. Philly JWJ does not have a budget and canvasses really heavily on volunteers.
A lot of responses has very wrongly accused AB guards of "wanting" to stay at AB. The fact of the matter is, even in pre-recession era, many of these guards don't have a choice of work. A Quote from one guard I interviewed, "AB told us they can fire (any gaurds) and hire someone else by next morning." Companies such as AB, Walmart and etc. are preying of the low income urban communities, whose residences are pretty much coerced into a abusive job or not getting a job at all.

My co-worker at a site called Jafra was fired from the site for protecting himself from getting stabbed by 3 people trying to steal cars in the parking lot. My co-worker got beat up, almost stabbed, and fired at Jafra without question.

I got fired at a job site in Oxnard, CA for following orders passed on to me by my co-worker from my Account Manager. We were told that we are supposed to watch over "The Bolt" wait for the employees to leave at 6PM (Holiday hours) and escort the manager to her car if possible, because she takes the money with her when she leaves the store. @QBlackDeathQ I worked for allied in MA and by law, anyone working 6/7 hours are required to take a 15 minute break. 8hrs or more, you're required to take a 15 minute break and a 30 minute break. I think the main problem is from the executives and amount of interest you show when doing your job. If you get there just to do your job and show no passion then they wont be supportive to your needs. If you go there and provide great customer service to the customers...it will pay off

All lobby security officers (L.S.O) at my site are made to stand for five hours straight on a hard floor while wearing dress shoes. The L.S.O supervisors do not find it within themselves to execute due-diligence when one of their subordinates requests a 10-7 or bathroom break, therefore these subordinates find themselves “HOLDING IT IN” for up-to two hours.

I knew coworkers who would steal, sleep on the job, damage property, threaten people, and for some reason they seemed to last just as long as the honest ones. The US has different kinds of private security guards, with different levels of training requirements. An unarmed guard who does nothing more than stand at a gate, check IDs and fill out a log book doesn't need the same type of training (or get the same rate of pay) as an armed guard protecting a bank or driving an armored car, or a store guard who has to arrest shoplifters.

One site had me emptying ashtrays, LOL. Later at another place when I became a desk sergeant/console operator, I thought I had it made. Nope. That just meant I took twice the amount of shit from the other guards, because I had all the responsibilities of a manager but none of the authority. Guys were sleeping on the job, breaking things, were over 20 minutes off schedule on their tours. I reported them to the fucking site supervisor but he never did a goddamn thing.

As a matter of fact, I have seen that, as well as the guard being required to refuel and maintain (aka auto repair) fleet vehicles, make coffee for their client, and do the client's personal business OFF property in the guard's own car with no renumeration other than "be glad you have a job". The guard's job is whatever the client says it is at any given moment..legal, ethical, or not.

Guards and guard supervisors at a certain level are product and are expendible...they are supposed to be. When a guard company CEO meets with his/her branch management, all they want to know is how much money you made the company. Everything else is irrelevent. It is NOT a career, it is a TEMPORARY job. @hursti05 I agree with you. But you have to remember this: there is very little real security that a contract guard does in most cases. It is considered unskilled labor and is treated as such. All contract guard companies work in the same general way. I'm not saying that it is right or fair, but they are what they are and always will be what they are. Don't think of it as a career. The average employment of a guard or manager is 3 years tops, after that, you're on borrowed time with them.

@logik316 A contract guard service is like an insurance policy; to deflect the majority of liability off the client. In other words, a scapegoat. Most of what you described could be done just as easily and cheaply by technology. I understand where you are coming, though. An unarmed guard (or even armed) is to DETER criminal activity, not prevent it. I have sat across the table from both clients and guard company execs and with few exceptions, they have a very low opinion of the people in it.

Allied Barton, Securitas, Staff Pro, CSC and all the multi million dollar security firms are all the same. These companies charge from $18 to $50 an hour per security guard and pay minimum wage your lucky to get $9.00 to $12.00 an hour. all these firms only care about one thing the CLIENT. avoid these companies.. i recommend working as an in-house guard

I worked for this company for almost 3 years and I can honestly say it was the worst job I ever had in my life. I saw our manager throw a keyboard at another employee...the wages was low, no benefits, and they screwed the employees any chance they got.

Unionize, its your best option. You will always end up with low wages, Allied Barton will continue to keep you around 8-12$ an hour, you will never know exactly how much the client is paying for each security guard, but at this time, Allied Barton has the worst Benefits in this country. At least if you Unionize you will get health care coverage that you can USE, and maybe some tuition fees paid for while working at Allied Barton. Deduct 20$ a month for union fees, but get health and education

Thank God I've advanced in life and no longer have to put up with Allied Barton's bullshit. The office personnel in Deerfield Beach, FL have no respect for anybody and lie constantly. Rick Root had me make 3 in vain road trips up to DFB to pick up the firearm for carrying on-site. He failed to show every time. The health insurance AB offers is a scam and all that money gets taken out of your check and funneled right back into the company!!

Training day was drug test day. It was 4 hours unpaid and got uniforms that day. Not all applicants passed drug test. Driver license required to be a supervisor. Supervisor made me take cap off and makes me wear cheap black nylon pants. We dont have a time clock, supervisors add our hours up. Our DAR are our paperwork and not the clients. Have some nice coworkers and some that must be avoided. Greetings from Pittsburgh Pa.

This company is horrible. When I worked for them I was made to work 45 to 60 hours a week for almsot 3 months because of the high turn over rate and lack of manpower. No respect for their employees. I finally quit when they denied my vacation even though I gave 2 months in advance and was told that I would get it. Avoid this company if you can. At 3:20 this happened many many times with clients wanting us to arrest shoplifters.

It happened to a co-worker of mine, and today they fired me for a minor event that they never explained to me in their loads of papers or retarded training class. Message me for details. I worked for Allied Barton for 20 months. I am a floater. Sometimes I finish my work day and have another shift in 8 hours. My coworkers are lazy uneducated housing project welfare case losers. They should not hire anyone without a drivers license or older than 60. We can be fired at will, no reason needed. I tried to get act 235 but failed vision part of physical. No lunch breaks or sick days here.

Yah, AB is bad. I was at a site that switched from Securitas to AB. I thought Securitas was bad, man I was wrong. Insurance went from less than 20$ to 240$ a month and thats with "union" dues on top of that. Oh and for every 10$ per hour a guard gets they get closer to 30$ not 18$.

In Milwaukee alone under the direction of Michael Polenzani and Frank Berry we saw 15+ great guards go at one installation alone. I will never work in security again. dont work for any privated companys . the pay is always the same 8 to 12 bucks and hour here a quarter raised there . and the aggravation you have deal with the people on the sites are a pain in the ass you also got wait for your reliave to come if he dont come you got to stay there god is awful. the only way to make decent money in security if you get your gun licenced , arm guards get from 14 to 23 dollars and hour but unarm guards is joke .

this company sucks I spent almost 3 years with them, they send you to the most worst sites you could imagine , they never give anyone a raise and the account manager always eats up all the money , I use to work in a site were te owners gave the security the guards a raise were w were supposed to received a 5 dollar increased . but allied barton step in and took all the money and we ended up just getting a 50 cent raised . there nothing but rats and the scum of the earth

I was once employed with allied. It all comes down to the dollar with them. I cant speak for all regions being they are all over the us. In all honesty coming from a worker that they raped in several ways you could not imagine they are one of the best security companies to work for. They have a lot of support for account managers. If the guards have a problem they should really try to better their lives and learn from the experience and move on.

I work for Allied Barton myself, and I dont see it as a bad place to work for. I have a pretty decent little setup. As for the gentleman that got hurt, you were chasing them, and they are completely against that anyways. You should never chase anyone, cause we are not cops. So that would be your own fault for doing an unauthorized step as such. As for pay, they pay more than most security places. What do you expect from a place that does not require a college degree of some sort.

people need to realize that security isnt like it was back in the old days. Guards now have a lot more responsibility and have a lot expected of them. I have a BA in criminal justice and I make more then Most Police officers in my state. If all you want to do is sit on your ass and complain you WILL go nowhere. As of today 3/1/09. Philly JWJ has gotten 50%+ guards at the Philadelphia Museum of art to sign union cards. Union organizing is an extremely difficult process. This campaign is run on a worker centered, grassroots, model. Philly JWJ does not have a budget and canvasses really heavily on volunteers.

A lot of responses has very wrongly accused AB guards of "wanting" to stay at AB. The fact of the matter is, even in pre-recession era, many of these guards don't have a choice of work. A Quote from one guard I interviewed, "AB told us they can fire (any gaurds) and hire someone else by next morning." Companies such as AB, Walmart and etc. are preying of the low income urban communities, whose residences are pretty much coerced into a abusive job or not getting a job at all.

I hope that in the near future the officers will gain all that they require to support their families. But I can't help but wonder why anyone would stay with a company that doesn't care for them. Security was my 2nd job when I got out of the Army in 2007. I quit my other job, because I had to take care of my aunt who had breast cancer. I have 0 tolerance for this kind of behavior. It happened Saturday and my account mngr. called me today (Monday) & said that i couldn't work at that site anymore. I was also told that I couldn't go to their premises, not even as a customer

I got fired at a job site in Oxnard, CA for following orders passed on to me by my co-worker from my Account Manager. We were told that we are supposed to watch over "The Bolt" wait for the employees to leave at 6PM (Holiday hours) and escort the manager to her car if possible, because she takes the money with her when she leaves the store. I did exactly that, and I was fired for it. Can you believe that?
